  2. Very interesting weekend futbol wise. In an hour or so second place Bremen receives third place Hamburg in a Bundesliga matchup. In he late games today the Barcelonian derby will have a special interest with Espanyol looking to take over the third place by theuir city rivals FC Barcelona. At the same time in Italy struggling AC Milan will receive Juventus in a big team duel. Tomorrow the games to watch will be a pair of early games in Serie A with Fiorentina hosting the last year champs and current leading team Inter Milan. At the same time Roma and Udinese, currently tied in second place with Juventus, will meet. Most games should be shown live in North-America except Roma-Udinese whose broadcast especially in Canada seems doubtful.

  5. Thank God, i live in Canada, could watch it on the regular sport network TSN. By the way, was not impressed by both defenses yesterday. Whatever happened to the times where teams with strong defenses ruled the NFL.
  6. Here are some stuff about them. Marcia Baila http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZ56pOwgR6E Covering an Aznavour song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZhn7VptvEo Histoire d'A http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ML9PWVm0wEQ
  7. Their new stuff was miss and hit among the good recent albums the above mentionned Variety is pretty good and Cool Frénésie was an outstanding record and for the rest there is the good bestov that is a fine review of their best songs.
  8. I know that for the majority of the english speaking board members it won't mean a thing but for those who are french speaking and who grew up listening to the Rita Mitsouko in the 80s and after that, had a shock when they learned that the cool guitar player and husband of singer Catherine Ringer suddenly died yesterday from a cancer. The Rita Mitsouka were an electric combo ang gave us thrilling live shows, i had the pleasure of seing them a few times live and they were always generous giving plenty of encores. Most of their biggest hits were in the 80s, among them Andy, les histoires d'a, c'est comme ca, they kept recording but not with the success they enjoyed previously although some of their latest stuff was pretty good but they weren't any hits like in the past They released a billigual album called Variety sooner this year Ill be playng Marcia Baila tonight, thanks for the good times Fred http://www.france24.com/france24Public/en/...ed-chichin.html

  11. The band played here last winter and they were cookin', Taborn was fantastic and the rest of the band was great. Looking for very much to get this cd. I think Potter is one of those guys who are way more interesting and exciting to see on a live setting than on a recording.

The Oliver Nelson and the Ellington Mosaic boxsets, the solo Hill, Onzy Matthews and Pullen Selects. The Ray Charles Atlantic and Country and Western sets and the Emmylou Harris set. Plus i have a Sharon Jones CD that is still in its wrapping. Thinking of asking my boss to go in holiday break right now

  18. I have a dream that involves Dolphins finishing the season 0-16, Patriots 16-0 and the 72 Dolphins team having collective gas as it unfolds.
  19. Well, Denver-Chicago turned out to be a barn-burner, with some awesome plays on both sides of the ball. One of the best games I've watched this season. Yeah, it was, but on paper were you really excited about the quarterback duel between Grossman and Cutler. It simply turned out to be a suprisingly great game Which is why you can't reject a game based on apparent matchups - or you would have missed two great games yesterday. I totally agree, but if you had to pick games to showcase on national tv, you could say that there were weeks with more obvious choices than the menu of games offered this weekend. My original post was an answer to a poster who criticized the poor quality of games shown on Thanksgiving. Hey, who would have thought that the Eagles would give Patriots fits, i kind of taped the game as a second thought, thinking after the first half i could fast forward it to the end since the game should be out of reach.

  21. As i mentionned in another thread i'm currently listening to my freshly acquired Jazz Crusaders boxset. Among the pieces that i enjoyed was the way they did Brahms' lullaby. Which they did it in a fine swinging way So i thought about making a thread about famous or less famous classical pieces that have been done with success by jazz musicians. Other example that come to mind, i remember Jackie Terranson doing Ravel's Bolero that got some air time on local jazz outlets. Uri Caine made a few great albums with Mahler's music also. Another great jazz cover is Aldo Romano doing Verdi's Va Pensiero, Sull' Ali Dorate, in a free jazz way on the album Intervista. So, what are your favourite covers of this style.
  22. Listening to my recently bought Jazz Crusaders box set. When i started participating on this board, someone recommended this set. To be honest i knew next to nothing about this ensemble and was not familiar with the majority of the musicians, Wayne Henderson was one of the rare people whose name rang a bell. Going through the cd number 3 of this fine set and i enjoy very much what i have heard so far, fine soloing, interesting melodies and the arrangements are listener friendly without being too easy. So i'd like to thank very much the member who suggested it.
  23. All you need to know about the CFL is that you don't need to know anything, congrats Brownie au contraire you deserve it.
  24. I was not aware of this section, made some research and noticed in your latest exercice there was an Italian Instabile Orchestra piece, which is one of my favourite ensemble. I'm pretty poor at guessing musicians but i don't mind making a fool out of myself, so i'll join the fun.
