  1. Well, Denver-Chicago turned out to be a barn-burner, with some awesome plays on both sides of the ball. One of the best games I've watched this season. Yeah, it was, but on paper were you really excited about the quarterback duel between Grossman and Cutler. It simply turned out to be a suprisingly great game
  2. As i mentionned in another thread i'm currently listening to my freshly acquired Jazz Crusaders boxset. Among the pieces that i enjoyed was the way they did Brahms' lullaby. Which they did it in a fine swinging way So i thought about making a thread about famous or less famous classical pieces that have been done with success by jazz musicians. Other example that come to mind, i remember Jackie Terranson doing Ravel's Bolero that got some air time on local jazz outlets. Uri Caine made a few great albums with Mahler's music also. Another great jazz cover is Aldo Romano doing Verdi's Va Pensiero, Sull' Ali Dorate, in a free jazz way on the album Intervista. So, what are your favourite covers of this style.
  3. Listening to my recently bought Jazz Crusaders box set. When i started participating on this board, someone recommended this set. To be honest i knew next to nothing about this ensemble and was not familiar with the majority of the musicians, Wayne Henderson was one of the rare people whose name rang a bell. Going through the cd number 3 of this fine set and i enjoy very much what i have heard so far, fine soloing, interesting melodies and the arrangements are listener friendly without being too easy. So i'd like to thank very much the member who suggested it.
  4. All you need to know about the CFL is that you don't need to know anything, congrats Brownie au contraire you deserve it.
  5. I was not aware of this section, made some research and noticed in your latest exercice there was an Italian Instabile Orchestra piece, which is one of my favourite ensemble. I'm pretty poor at guessing musicians but i don't mind making a fool out of myself, so i'll join the fun.
  6. I enjoy her recordings, my favourite is probably Dreamland. She is labelled jazz because she records with jazz artist remember that the above mentionned album involved Cyrus Chessnut, James Carter and other well known jazz people but never considered her a jazz singer. She is a pop artist who uses jazz sonorities for her musical arrangements. Saw her live, was not that impressed though. Look stoned throughout the set.
  7. Come on you bunch of wimps score some goals or whatever you score over there. I need 72 points.
  8. Very poor week in terms of interesting games, i think the Grey Cup is more interesting than any NFL game. Wanna have fun try to figure out what the spread will be when the Jets meets the Patriots later this year.

  11. I thought that the Beatles remix Love, whatever you want to call this project, helped to showcase more prodomently his playing.
  12. Let's put the rest of my picks. Carolina Cleveland KC Seattle Ten. TB Jack. Giants Arizona Balt Chi NE Pitts.
  13. The fact that their is a tradition of having Detroit and Dallas in the mix does not help. Indy-Atlanta was a decent matchup. Also we can't say that the other games of the week are salivating prospects. Denver-Chicago or Viking-Giants anyone ?
  14. I heard that he played very long solos, tell us more.
  15. Dick Cheney Darth Vader Dr Evil
  16. Going to see tonight these dudes Just hope that they're only gonna take my money and not rape my wife or touch the children Seriously it should be a very good night of African music, fans of Ali Farka Touré should enjoy this band

  18. Damn another 170 bucks spent. The Emmylou boxset and both Ray Charles sets (Atlantic and the country and western)
  19. No matter how smart prople are, they'll be looking for getting a release and act like a bunch of dumbasses once in a while. As long as it remains in superficial threads like this one, it's all fun. If we started behaving this way in threads like recommendations and subjects more relevant to this board then we could worry about it.
  20. Benedict Arnold Arnold Palmer Arnold (the pig from Green Acres)
  21. Still suprising though, no representative from the UK was able to get through. After the day without music they'll have the summer without football.
