  1. My favorite Christmas song of all time. Thanks, Marty. And a Merry Christmas to all!
  2. "I knew the bride when he used to rock and roll..."
  3. It was kinda nice, though, having another chick on the boards. At least for a while...
  4. Glad to hear that. Whether the law's changed or simply now enforced, it only seems fair not to steal someone else's work.
  5. But would FMV on a used CD be the store's "buy" price or "sell" price?
  6. By the way, it's been my understanding that a mastering (or remastering) cannot itself be copyrighted.
  7. Come on, guys, it's not about the sex but about the love.
  8. It's hardly tanking, though it didn't open as strongly as we'd hoped. (Don't believe everything you here in Drudge ). Lots of theories about that, but we'll see. Reviews have been generally good, word of mouth mostly terrific. It is a long film, and it did perhaps open a week too early, with many still in school. Most, though, feel that Kong has legs and will make its money more slowly, like Titanic. Buth these things are always a crapshoot. And can we all get off the "ah hell, another remake" criticism. The original Kong came out in '33, with a less-than-memorable (and quite different) remake in '76. This film is much closer to the original and vastly superior to it in many ways. It is over 70 years later after all. Everyone seems to forget that such Hollywood classics as The Maltese Falcon and Ten Commandments were remakes as well.
  9. Is that really relevant (and legal)? So T.S. basically tells Blue Note "fuck you, we want it all" despite whatever legit contracts Blue Note might have made with his father or the estate? If BN is only paying a buck per disc in royalties... well, that was the deal, wasn't it? How do you think Chuck would feel if members of the AEC were to sell mp3s of his box set on a website, thereby cutting him out? Now I think it's pretty ingenious that T.S. is offering the bootleg recordings for sale, but I agree that $10 per disc is way too much, especially for crappy mp3s. (There can be good sounding mp3s, but these ain't them.) Actually, I find that the traders on sites like Dimeadozen often do a better service to an artist's "underground" legacy by offering the best quality recordings in uncompressed audio formats. They also strive to find the best versions available, often trading (for free!) versions that sound much better than the bootlegs that have been sold over the years... and possibly better than the versions that T.S. is now propogating for a price.
  10. Happy day, Jim!
  11. Thanks for reminding me that i have to check out Nels and Alex's 50th b-day bash... http://www.cryptonight.com/
  12. Trane play good music.
  13. The 1976 version sucks. The new version isn't perfect, but it is spectacular in lots of ways. I urge everyone to see it; I think you'll be pleased.
  14. Heh. And just last week someone was auctioning off Wonder Woman's invisible jet. Ebay really needs to raise their insertion rates for certain items...
  15. My wife recently had a problem with FedEx'ing some very important legal documents. They offer "guaranteed" overnight deliver, but when they failed to deliver the docs overnight, my wife called to complain. They apologized and said they were "sorry." And that was pretty much the extent of their "guarantee."
  16. Neat!

  18. As much as I'd like a "cheap" set myself, a rerelease of the Shorty Rogers ain't gonna happen. Mosaic has a hard enough time selling 3000 copies of a new release; they won't come close to making a rerelease of an old set profitable. Yeah, there might be fierce demand for a couple of hundred sets on Ebay or through the used market, but those who bought the Rogers the first time won't buy it again, and that's probably 90% of the demand right there. And I say that knowing that the Shorty Rogers is one of my favorite all-time Mosaics.
  19. I miss the snow; you guys are making me jealous.
  20. Has it been mentioned?: Chico Hamilton's score for Polanski's Repulsion.
  21. Geez, guys, my four year olds are acting more mature than you two right now...
  22. I'm seeing it tomorrow night. I'll let you know.
  23. And thanks for the tip on the tea...
