  1. Well, today was the first day that it felt like Autumn in Los Angeles. Low 70's, gusty winds, leaves blowin', a nip in the air...
  2. Too young for the Beatles (at least first-run), but I do love the bubble gum cards. Still have some old Wacky Paks, Man From Uncle, Man in Space, and Marvel Super-Hero cards - not to mention the sports cards of course.
  3. So tell me, what's the difference between "private recordings" and "bootlegs" anyway?
  4. Pumpkin, no ifs, ands or buts. I know they're similar, but I really don't care for sweet potatoes or the pies they make...
  5. Billy Harper's "Priestess." I heard this for the first time not long ago and was shocked by how familiar it felt but utterly unknown it was to me.
  6. If nothing else he needs to learn patience. Reminds me of when my sister got into two auto accidents in less than a week. She got into a minor crash that left her car in the shop, then three days later, while borrowing a neighbor's car for a quick trip to the market, got seriously hit, landing her in the hospital.
  7. Man, I'm glad you said someting, Jim. I thought I hit the wrong button and fucked something up!
  8. Yep, this spam is good. I'm going!

    Bill Frisell

I once picked up a David Frizzell album by mistake. Didn't care for it...
  10. Damn...
  11. No sympathies from me for Verve. They should have released this as a 2-disc set (VEE or otherwise) and not in their LPR series, without the extra tracks already released elsewhere.
  12. It's funny how easy it is to side with the usually vilified record label when they want to put something out that we're all eager to hear, even if it goes against the wishes of the artist or the artist's estate. I'm just sayin'...
  13. Hey Al - thanks (finally! ) I'll have to dig up my original answers to see how I did, but I remember digging this disc quite a bit. A real "name that tune" challenge!
  14. I once heard a bootleg of "Lawrence Welk and Nico." And rumor has it that it was Myron Florin who was "waiting for his man."
  15. Had the box, didn't care much for it (prefer AEC a bit later), sold it, but now that I'm really digging "Sound" I'm thinking about getting it again...
  16. I'm sure someone would nominate Miles and Braxton if they get the chance. Gotta say, Braxton may be the dude with the greatest talent who's made the most number of recordings that I don't like. Otherwise, I'm right there with you re: OP & WM
  17. What differentiated BS and SN releases?
  18. Man, comic tastes are so fickle. I can't stand Scrubs.
  19. They got some without numbers. ← A small question. In "limited editions" of 2500 or whatever (such as Mosaic, and this), does that usually mean "2500 plus a few for band members and other special folks?" I owe you an email to order it and the Warne Marsh. ← Yes, there are "extras" used for participants and review copies. In the record/cd manufacturing process there are always "overruns", in fact contracts with pressing plants and printers traditionally include a phrase containing something like " plus or minus 10% is considered a complete order". Mass manufacturing ot this kind is imprecise - they always print/press extras to cover for "defects" and other factory mishaps. ← Wouldn't this also explain the "loose," "used," and "partial" Mosaics that one occassionally finds?
  20. Don't know the impact of DVD sales on Fox's end since I don't know if Fox produces/owns the show. The DVD sales likely go back to the producers not the network, which usually just licenses the shows for first run broadcast. The magic number for syndication, though, is 100 (usually four seasons), and that's where the big $$$ often is.
  21. And to be honest, instead of blaming Fox for (maybe) canceling the show (in the future), one might praise them for sticking with it as long as they have. This show would've been history already on any other network. (and on a personal note, I hate you for putting me in a position to stick up for Fox )
  22. It's all about the ratings. Doesn't matter how many awards the show might win, if nobody watches, the networks ain't gonna carry it. I've sampled the show since I used to work with Mitch Hurwitz and really dig the guy, but it ain't my cuppa.
  23. Finally, Homeland Security has done something useful. (just kidding) The thing is, the XCP "spyware" does nothing to stop anyone from copying discs if they really want to. It won't deter pirates at all and only annoys consumers.
