  1. That series will always be dear to me. That's where I first heard Monk! It was like a first kiss...
  2. (No offense to Chuck but) while his cover may be lacking in comparison I think the music is just a wee bit better than that Montrose album. ← Agree re: the music, but I think the box would have sold out faster with a cover like that. Unless the equivilent image is a tight shot of Roscoe Mitchell in a Speedo...
  3. A bit of a tangent, but many film buffs (myself included) in the U.S. tend to automatically consider foreign films to be "better" or "classier" than the average domestic flick. But that's only because we're not exposed to the "average" foreign film. The imports we get to see in the U.S. tend to be the cream of the crop: the award winners, the hits, the films of the world's greatest directors. If one ever gets the chance to see the run-of-the-mill (mainstream, commercial) films of any foreign country, you might be shocked to realize just how bad some of them are. I know we sometimes sarcastically joke about the U.S. making the "best" movies - but if you look at the big picture it's very likely true.
  4. Hah! My very first thought, Jon, was that this was something you'd dig. Pretty cool Shag (or Shag-swipe) cover on the disc.
  5. What, these guys have a problem with the West Coast?
  6. Don't miss it!
  7. Congrats Matt! From the pics it looks like you'll be getting a mighty fine wife... and she'll be getting someone who can easily change the lightbulbs! Seriously, may yours be a long and happy marriage.

Have the 80's (?) LP reissue. Hopefully the original tapes were found since I never found the recording/sound quality on this one to be all that great. Music is terrific though. Long overdue on CD. What has Revenge Records been up to lately...
  9. It's a hard tune to sing in the shower too...
  10. Also keep an eye on Ebay - this is one of those sets that I've occassionally seen partials show up. You might get lucky and be able to buy the discs you need. I've put together several out of print sets this way.
  11. Don't hate me, but I really like Stanley Jordan's solo version of the tune on his first album.
  12. And it makes me want to stop buying malware CDs altogether and download more instead...
  13. I'm with you... So f*cking what! ... ← Don't blame the news media solely for this one - George was not just coming out but also drumming up publicity for his show. People "come out" all the time and no one cares... but if you're a celebrity and do so in a magazine then you have to expect some press.
  14. We only had about 3 or 4 kids last night, but we were out with our own girls for much of the night. Still, our neighborhood is heavily gay, with not a lot of kids (though it is moving in that direction). The street next to ours made a concerted effort this year to "bring Halloween back to the neighborhood," so we headed over there, but even so, after two hours of trick-or-treating, we still only came across another half dozen kids. It was fun, though, as the people (in the houses) were really grateful that anyone at all stopped by. My sister, meanwhile, in her flatland suburbia, reported 300 kids last night!
  15. Man, if a pastor isn't safe in church, where is one safe from God's Wrath?
  16. Believe it or not, I used to work for Mr. Welk. And I still want to hear this album...
  17. Pretty soon she's gonna be on daytime TV everyday... (I assume Moose saw her on Letterman a few nights ago?)
  18. Hot damn! I've been waiting for these to get on-line. Yes, an incredible resource!
  19. Him dead. How many years is "enough" for four murders? I'm not taking sides here, I'm just asking....

Indeed, CT, that's the Catch-22 of it all. In order to make these "grey market" recordings "legit," one would have to go through so many expensive legal hoops and contract negotiations, and pay so many royalties that, unless huge sales are guarenteed, they wouldn't be "worth" a company officially releasing them.
  21. It boggles my mind that someone would pay $15 for a download of a CD (at least of an in-print one).
  22. Serenity tanked. Better example is Family Guy on Fox. The Trio cable channel (now defunct, or near it?) had a series a year or so back featuring unaired TV show pilots. Pilots are a blast to watch, if only because so many of them are so bad. The problem with releasing short-run series on DVD is that since they failed the first time and never had enough episodes to syndicate, there's not much of an audience for them now either. To release them requires a lot of money re: royalties and residuals. Unfortunate but true...
  23. Footage of her on the morning shows this a.m. It's easy to forget just how heroic her actions were back in '55. May she Rest in Peace....
  24. If you're talking "legal" music, then maybe. If you include "unofficial" stuff, then definitely not. The trading community these days generally insists on uncompressed files. Odd, isn't it, that traders have higher standards than the record companies, at least in regards this?
