    Davis S Ware Quartets

Listening right now to "Flight of I," which i like quite a bit - though it'd be hard to suck with Shipp and Parker on board. Intense playing in spots, but not *too* intense if you know what I mean. And he does a couple of standards to boot.
  2. Ah, yes. "Web chat" is a language all it's own, much different than English and filled with all sorts of different nuances. It does take a while to get used to it. btw, welcome Ted - or whoever you really are...
  3. A secret I've never told anybody before... I'm using somebody else's initials.
  4. Yeah, try to get on. I tried. What are the tunes and timings? Hmm. Guess you have to register to see the details. Didn't know that. From the vague description, the titles are unknown. I can download this tonight and send you a copy...
  5. Chuck, there's not much info at the easytree link. It only lists "3 songs, 18 minutes"... http://www.easytree.org/torrents-details.php?id=33903

Only you can explain that one...
  7. Brad, based on that and other communications you've received from them, it sounds like they're not aware that the box is SUPPOSED to rust, although obviously the discs should not be marred. The funniest thing will be if they decide to sell "faulty" rusted sets at a discount... maybe $99?
  8. I believe you meant "wide ass"
  9. Some nice stuff there, but I still think charging $10 for a "digital only" catalog title is too much...
  10. Nice photos, Mark. I am so kicking myself for not seeing Grimes when I had the chance before he left L.A. a year or so ago...
  11. Glad to hear this. I like the accessibility that a standard tune offers, particularly from an unfamiliar band, but I really love when they're shaken up and turned inside-out.
  12. Could you imagine me a clem in the same car? B-) ummm...
  13. I'm in and can help distribute. PM'ing you shortly.

    Kenny Garrett

Was surprised to find no thread for Kenny Garrett - and little mention of him at all outside of BFTs. What, you guys confusing him with the other Kenny G? I've been listening to Trio-logy the last couple of days (new to me), but I also have and really enjoy his Coltrane album and Simply Said. One of my favorite of the "young lions" - who aren't so young anymore.
  15. Thanks, Joe, that's interesting. Sounds like a book I might need to check out. I have no reason to doubt my pa-in-law, but it is fifty years later so he could be wrong as well about dates/venues/etc. You never know, though - I thought this show might have ended up on one of those Philology releases...
  16. Hey Vint, cool pic! I have a handful of carded "redlines" plus maybe a hundred or so loose ones. I collect hem on and off, along with other 60s boys toys. I'll try to post some pics when I get home. Ever heard of Major Matt Mason?
  17. They're all good! I actually dig the groovy pop covers, but that's just me.

    Funny Rat

Well, I'll step up and admit to not really caring for it. It was my first exposure to William Parker and I bought it based in large part on it being recommended here and on the ol' BN board - but it just didn't click for me. And it's not that I don't like Parker - in fact, I just finished listening to Peach Orchard and I really dig his latest trio CD whose title escapes me now...
  19. This was from the Verve website, so I suspect it's not a Mosaic.

  21. Yeah, I can laugh now. But my girls are only (nearly) four. I'm gonna be a completely miserable dad in less than a decade... Is it too late to raise them in a Skinner box?
  22. Would it be too much to ask that someone post some pics so we all know what everyone is talking about? I tried Googling "sexy cheerleaders," but the results are rather shocking. I don't think some of those women are really students!
  23. So I was talking to my father-in-law over the weekend about Charlie Parker and he claims to have run the sound board during a Bird performance at L.A. City College sometime in the early 50s. Not an outrageous claim since he was a student there and into audio recordings. I'm hoping to pin down the date and perhaps even seek out a bootleg of the performance (if one even exists). I think I once saw a website that chronologically listed virtually all venues that Parker played in, but I can no longer locate it through any Google searches. If any artist has such detailed records, I figure it will probably be Bird. Anyone have any idea of where I might find such info? All the official discographical sites I've found so far only list recording sessions, not actual live performances.
  24. Great news, Jim! Wish I could be there.
  25. She was extraordinarily lovely in Hero, no?
