Like AfricaBrass I must be dumb, and like Sangry I just don't get it either. And i must have missed what Flurin said. As for folks leaving the board, it's very unfortunate (at least most of the time), but I'm a firm believer, when it comes to internet chat boards, in the "if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen" principle. I really believe we're talking about a few isolated incidents here and that all this hand-wringing is unwarranted. But like I said above, I'm dumb and clueless so somebody please fill me in and set me straight...

I haven't read more than the first post yet, but my response would be... You don't have to read every thread here. No one's forcing you to follow a thread and grow increasingly upset or discouraged with the "direction" this board is going. If you do become upset and offended by something, take a few days off and chill out. The big-O need no "clear mission statement." It's simply a mighty cool place where jazz fans can hang out, chat about jazz or just about anything they care to chat about. That's what we like about it.

Just wanted to give props to Allen for starting this thread before Brubeck's inevitable demise...

Anybody hear Cobain's version of "Seasons" on the Nirvana box? Mighty cool! I'd have to vote for "Alone Again," though I really (really!) like all three. The first two, for me, are very fondly remembered pop of my youth. You old geezers suck!

Any clue where to find their Apple albums that Jim mentioned above? I've heard nothing but great things about them, but have never seen them anywhere.

Agreed, but they're so readily available via bootlegs/downloads. Looking over the tracklisting again, I gotta say that "Held Up With a Gun" (1:18) may be the greatest shortest song ever. B-)

Hey Bill - I know i was stretching with that Bird analogy - hadn't had my morning caffeine yet - but my point is that one needs to separate the "music" from the "collectible" in an instance like this. Of course the guy isn't buying it for the music - and he'd be foolish to open it up and play it after paying $5 grand for a sealed copy. It's silly if you ask me, too, but presumably the guy is loaded and/or unmarried . We often spend a lot of money on collectible things with no practical purpose - that's part of the nature of having a collecting hobby. Personally I would never pay that much for an LP - I don't "collect" LPs for that purpose - but I disagree that this is "just another LP" or that it's lunacy to pay so much. We can't think of this as just some guy who really really really wants to hear Jutta Hipp. B-)
