  1. Thanks Adam. Got the AEC penciled in!
  2. Well said! I might rephrase it a bit, though, to say that I love a lot of stuff that others might consider guilty pleasures.
  3. Sangray or all of us combined?
  4. Could have written most of this post myself. As "example," I've been a member of emusic for years now, going back to the unlimited days, where I downloaded 100s of OJCs. But lately I've been buying dozens of my favorite OJCs just to ensure that I have a "hard" copy before they disappear completely. As much as I'd like to think that only the musical content matters, it's the package as a whole that often makes the album: the cover, the liners, the recording info, etc.
  5. Also, as an artist, there must be some satisfaction - aside from monetary - that nearly five times as many people are listening to your music.
  6. Heh. Didn't really care about the buck, but was wondering about my fellow forumites' math skills.
  7. I think the Melford trio discs I mentioned above are fairly mainstream (moreso than most of her work I'll admit), as are the Anthony Ortega discs. If you like sax/piano duos, the Liebman/Copland 2-fer is quite accessible as well.
  8. Ah, found a more appropriate thread. Anyway, this album just turned up on emusic. If nothing else, it's much cheaper this way than $25 at DG.
  9. For those interested, "Do Right" just showed up on emusic.
  10. Fortunately, I got most of what I needed at their last sale. But might i recommend the 2-disc Myra Melford live set and the Cecil Taylor.
  11. 9/9, but I can't play football worth shit.
  12. I'm sure there are others out there, but most of the blogs I've seen that offer downloads do so only of LP-sourced or otherwise oop material - and they are sensitive to material that's still widely available. That doesn't technically change anything, of course, but it does seem much less harmful and it's been my (personal) experience that the exposure to new artists and albums leads to future purchases of in-print material (or actually paying to see an artist live, which while swell admittedly doesn't directly help the record producer). I obviously don't believe that the public has some sort of inalienable "right" to hear everything, in print or not, but that's also a rather disingenuous position to take in a forum of jazz obsessives who routinely seek out every note ever recorded by their favorite musicians. To call an album a "classic" and then keep it oop (for whatever reason) for decades is going to result in an increased demand for it - and if the only way of acquiring it is through the the active "trading" of it, well that, rightly or wrongly, is what's gonna happen. As others have said about file-sharing, you can't unring a bell; the practice is here to stay. I do agree that it's wrong for file-sharing sites to host lossless files of new releases (and I know it's especially harmful to independent labels), but I can see a promotional benefit in offering mp3s to entice a new listener and potential purchaser.
  13. Great article. DuNann's long been my favorite engineer. One of my best sounding LPs is an original Stereo Records pressing of "Poll Winners." Sounds amazing!
  14. Not to mention Woody Allen's orgasmatron.
  15. Two comments: 1) Lots of people now blaming girlfriends/wives for their questionable musical decisions. 2) Why the hatred for Jarrett and Corea? Hardly "embarrassing" musicians unless maybe catching Corea during a bad fusion show.
  16. Bobby Vinton. Seriously. Circa 1975. My first "real" concert ever, with my father.
  17. Ordered, but where are you guys getting the < $6 price? For me it was $3.98 + $2.98 shipping = $6.96
  18. Every time I think of Sangrey as part of some elitist board cabal, I remind myself that his feet stink. Don't ask me how I know this.
  19. I probably mentioned this in the early days of this thread, but Katanga is hands down my favorite of the WCC series.
  20. Sorry to hear it, Mark. Can't offer more than my best wishes. Heck, I had a silly spat with my wife last week and it messed me up for a few days. Hopefully the change will lead to a better situation for you.
  21. Happy birthday, Alex! You do believe in birthdays, don't you?
  22. Thanks, I use that already....well....I haven't run it in awhile...... And Ad-aware doesn't catch it all either. My wife had a problem with pop-unders on her browser, and neither ad-aware, Spybot or Norton caught it. I ended up using an on-line scanner that finally found the bug and deleted it from the registry.
  23. Could be spyware/adware (and you should be usng something to block and/or remove it), but it also sounds like your machine is underpowered given modern programs/websites. You might try something like Eusing registry cleaner to clean up your reg, but also to kill some of the unneeded resident programs that can clog up memory. For example, Quicktime and iTunes can be loaded upon startup, but they're not usually needed unless you're actually using those programs. So kill 'em when you don't need them.
  24. This is probably the version I'll end up springing for as well. For those with (or contemplating) HD-DVD or BluRay, you can get the 5-disc set for around $25.
