  1. Arguably the greatest album cover of all time:
  2. Here is the original cover of Five Live Yardbirds. And here is a budget label reissue from the 1980s.
  3. The YouTube algorithm gave me "Sweet Cherry Pie" by Hilton Ruiz, and I must say, the YouTube algorithm is doing a great job! It sounds like a groovy Verve track from the 1960s.
  4. More affordable may be the 2-volume DVD collection Mid-Century Modern Animation. Not sure if they are readily available in your corner of the globe.
  5. Do you plan to rotate it periodically?
  6. But if they had some merit to begin with, their popularity may likely be cyclical, as evidenced by the Free Design's "Love You" being used on a TV commercial now.
  7. SF is a mixed bag. Some tracks are Flora-esque, and some are very square. Their most Flora-esque track, "Science Fiction," never made it to LP! The Nick Travis has eluded me. Might also help to explain Coleman Hawkins or any of the other music that interests you. For the visually minded among us who seek to place Jim Flora in perspective, Cartoon Modern is a great book, though very pricey these days. https://www.amazon.com/Cartoon-Modern-Style-Design-Animation/dp/0811847314/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3O15XZ7QF576S&keywords=cartoon+modern&qid=1653689055&s=books&sprefix=cartoon+modern%2Cstripbooks%2C78&sr=1-1
  8. He is FANTASTIC! I have many of his record covers. In a few instances, I've actually played the records, but the covers are so good, the music cannot possibly live up to the promise. I mean, how could you listen to a Haydn quartet with a Jim Flora cover and not be disappointed?
  9. Well, I just had to pre-order Brother on the Run. I'll report back.
  10. Afro Harping and The Rubiyat are the two gems.
  11. We were supposed to see them a couple of years back, and then they cancelled because of Covid. They are coming back in June. We will probably go. In my musical universe, Kraftwerk are more important than the Beatles.
  12. Phil Woods played with the great Kenyon Hopkins, including on the soundtrack of "The Hustler," as well as other stuff. That's enough for me.
  13. Well, the weather's warming up here, meaning that this is the time of year when TTK breaks out the Latin and Exotica records, not to mention the rum cocktails. I am now listening to both volumes of RCA's Progressive Side of Tito Puente. I'm generally convinced that these two volumes, along with the incredible Tambo and Top Percussion (of which one track from each appears on Progressive), deliver most of what I need from Tito's RCA period. There are still a few tracks that I adore, such as the three vibraphone tracks tacked onto the end of the Mucho Puente CD, but the core tracks for me are on those four discs.
  14. Agreed, and overlooked by a lot of Shorty Rogers enthusiasts!
  15. Unless you want to differentiate the bridge from the rest of the tune, which is also a valid approach. Bridges often have a different lyrical perspective, so there is nothing wrong with a different melodic perspective.
  16. It looks like the soundtrack for a bad 80s movie!
  17. Shorty Rogers - The Fourth Dimension in Sound
  18. Never really checked him out. A friend had the Cool C album, the cover of which I liked for its nod to Beat culture. Can't remember the music.
  19. Agreed. As if adding to the mystery. We see him from the back, and he disappears into the crowd. I am quite sure it is him. I know the wore that maroon jacket for photo shoots.
