  1. 5 or 6 posts up. Uses the saw.
  2. There was a great place in St. Paul. It was in what looked like an old house, and I think it was upstairs. Huge inventory, and just about every genre. Anyone know the place that I'm talking about, or if it is still there?
  3. Did you guys check out "Kashmiri Song?" It is GORGEOUS!
  4. This beautiful 1946 track by Andre Kostelanetz features the saw.
  5. Did you ever hear the album he did with the Holy Modal Rounders?
  6. For those of us who play Latin music: #1. DON'T PLAY ON THE ONE!
  7. When I have more time, I will share the story of an estate sale, at a house in which nearly every wall in nearly every room had shelves filled with books, LPs, and CDs, floor to ceiling. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The buying spree lasted for weeks.
  8. Havana 3 AM was his classic. At one time, it was in every thrift store, along with Whipped Cream and Other Delights and Merry Christmas from Firestone Tires.
  9. Agreed. He could still deliver the goods afterwards, but you really have to hunt for the money cuts on those records. The early ones were jazzier, more consistent, and less focused on giving the first trumpet a hernia.
  10. At 50 cents or a buck a throw, there's plenty to go around! Yes, that is a gem also!
  11. That's Beny, with one "N." He loved ron a little too much. As a ron drinker myself, I can relate. Here is his money cut. It doesn't get any better than this, trust me. I dragged home many, many dollar Beny More albums from the flea market, back when you could find this kind of stuff for a buck a throw.
  12. Thanks! He also has involvement with Arlene Francis's show. I'm on a What's My Line kick, and I'm finding all these Six Degrees of Arlene Francis connections. It is humbling to listen to albums by artists who are forgotten or were unknown to begin with. This is a really good album. Interesting arrangements and harmonies.
  13. The Norman Paris Trio - The Cocktail Hour Imagine the Nat King Cole trio playing space-age arrangements.
  14. Interesting, but I thought the kinds of details you are describing would be attributed more to speakers or amps than to CD players. I didn't realize the model of the CD player could make this much of a difference. Glad it is working out for you!
  15. I've wanted to do this, but ask completely different questions, so the responses sound like non-sequiturs.
  16. That's why I posted Esquivel! As modern as you can get!
  17. Or the great Juan Garcia iEsquivel! Great space-age bachelor pad album found in the jazz section!
  18. In the 1990s, my wife's band played a nudist/swingers party. She said the experience reinforced the axiom that the people most willing to disrobe in public are the people you least want to see unclothed.
  19. It's a cute song, about a couple cleaning up after a party. Worth seeking out if you can find it. I think the entire album is on YouTube. Here is the album. It is the next-to-last track.
  20. Ever hear "Glasses 'N Ashes 'N Bottles 'N Cans" from an early LP on Brunswick?
  21. I'll check to see if they play on that album.
  22. Bump. I came across an old thread of mine to which Chris chimed in. I miss Chris's contributions to the board.
