  1. I will defer to your expertise on that one. There are other cases, though, where they would issue an album such as: "CHARLIE PARKER! ...and Shep's Banjo Boys." It would include 2 Charlie Parker tunes recorded as demos 10 years earlier. And 8 tunes by Shep's Banjo Boys. BTW, for all you Charlie Parker completists, this a FICTIONAL EXAMPLE.
  2. Amazing that a vinyl geek was able to score even a girlfriend, let alone a wife.
  3. I believe there were some original recordings done for Crown, some of which are very good. These include Milk Raskin's "Kapu" and the Latin Jazz All Star's "Jazz Heat Bongo Beat," a true beatnik/bongo classic. But, yes, any album on Crown by a name artist is dodgy.
  4. Yes. a. Buy a second mint copy of the LP. b. Lay the two records side by side. c. scratch vinyl out from the mint record that is in exactly the same place, and the same length and depth as the scratches from the original scratched LP. d. carefully super glue these tiny pieces of vinyl into the gouged sections of the original LP. They should fit perfectly. e. VOILA! You have a mint record. NOTE: Do not try this on your scratched Phil Collins LPs.
  5. Katanga! Does the music sound anything like the cover looks?
  6. I've heard that "Dream Brother" is more about Jeff and under-emphasizes Tim. What ever happened to the guy who wrote some of Tim's lyrics? (forget his name offhand...)
  7. I got both "Dream Letter" and "1969 Live at the Troubador" in the early 90s, and then lost track of Tim Buckley releases. I know there have been releases since those two; Can anyone tell us what else has come out and what we need to get?
  8. I have a fairly large and extensive CT accumulation (25 to 30 titles, I'm guessing), but not everything. Which of his Fantasy albums are generally considered to be the best? (I'm talking his first period with the label). Also, I don't have anything later than the early 70s. What are his later Concord albums like, and which are recommended?
  9. Anyone have any details on his recent live shows, i.e. tunes, instrumentation, etc.?
  10. Last night: Zoot Sims - New Beat Bossa Nova, Vol. 2, Colpix stereo. Nice!
  11. TTK, how is that one? THEEEEEE GREATEST ALBUM EVER MADE!!!!!!!!! Knowing your taste in music, I can only say FIND A COPY NOW!!!!!
  12. Are you kidding?!? That's the very thing that makes those Howard Roberts albums so great!
  13. Seen one? I've EATEN them!
  14. I've been told they keep a special Blue Note section just for the out-of-towners, and then laugh after they pay the bill and leave the store.
  15. The "real" jazz was too expensive; I've moved onto "fake" jazz in recent years!
  16. Blue Note was a bust. Decent selection but out of my price range. However, I did score some gems from Radio Active, at great prices. They include: Bob Dorough - Devil May Care - Bethlehem - 70s reissue with bad cover art Cal Tjader- Mambo with Tjader - Fantasy - see note above Quincy Jones - $ OST - Warner/Reprise Zoot Sims - New Beat Bossa Nova Vol. 2 - Colpix stereo Yma Sumac - Collection of her early Peru recordings - Coral 10" Latin Jazz All Stars (Larry Bunker, Buddy Collette, etc.)- Jazz Heat Bongo Beat - Crown stereo - ONE OF MY ALLTIME FAVORITES! and... Leonard Feather presents The Sound of Feeling - Verve mono promo I have the other Sound of Feeling album, "Spleen," on Limelight, and have been looking for this one!
  17. I would say the same for the ending of the tune. BTW, anyone who likes the Happy/Sad album should pick up the live "Dream Letter" collection, if you haven't already. It's a live show done around the same time as Happy Sad with a similar vibe and aesthetic.
  18. This is my favorite of his. I'm not a huge Van Morrison fan, but years ago I put Happy Sad on a cassette with Astral Weeks on the other side, and it was a great pairing.
  19. I plead ignorance. I never knew what a "deep groove" pressing was, and was afraid to ask. What's the deal?
  20. New Fantasy - Lalo Schifrin - Verve mono
  21. If you still do vinyl, there is a high quality legit reissue of this.
  22. This past weekend: Caetano Veloso - 10" LP in MPB series, with songs sung by Caetano, Maria Bethania and Gal Costa Nara Leao - Some 70s album on Brasilian Philips whose title escapes me John Williams - Towering Inferno OST - WB Henry Mancini - Symphonic Soul - RCA Henry Mancini - Mr. Lucky Goes Latin - RCA Living Stereo Gabor Szabo - Jazz Raga - Impulse! Stereo Richard Shores - Music to Read Lady Chatterley's Lover By - Mercury mono
  23. Horace Silver - The Trio Sides - 70s Blue Note twofer reissue of 50s and 60s trio recordings.
  24. Thanks for the info. How are the thrift stores? I realize that jazz LPs rarely show up in thrift stores anymore, but oddball stuff may still show up. I'm thinking that as all those aging Miami swingers pass on to the next realm, their space age bachelor records must end up someplace...
