  1. I love the Bill Stewart quote in the blurb:
  2. Hank, would it be possible to post the OJCs from that list here? I changed my address recently and don't currently receive Mosaic flyers and catalogs.
  3. I am pretty sure he was not blind. His struggles with mental illness, however, are fairly well-documented.
  4. Most if not all of them. Phineas is a bad MF. I would perhaps go for Roy Haynes's "We Three" first.
  5. It looks like you can't do this yet via Google Maps. My advice: bring up a map of the area, print the screen and save the map in an image editing program, and then manually place Xs or stars or numbers or whatever to denote your locations. (By "manually" I mean "using the program to make changes to the image.") Then print out a bunch of copies of your map. You can also paste the pic into an MS Word document and annotate it that way.
  6. The guy us obviously delusional. You'd be surprised. When I went to Thailand last summer all any Thai kid who came up to me wanted to know was if I liked Linkin Park. Granted, this may have been because Linkin Park had played Bangkok only a couple weeks prior and they go crazy about any American act that comes through Thailand, but still...
  7. Tonight: Curryburgers! Mix some leftover Thai green curry paste with ground beef, throw on Foreman grill, stuff into pita pocket (I can't get enough of that Middle Eastern bread). Couscous with pine nuts on the side. Easy! Now if anyone has any other inspired ideas of what to do with some two-month-old curry paste, I'd love to hear them...
  8. It depends. With the Blue Note sets I'm far more likely to base my judgment on what I've heard already of the artists than on a trust factor. But after thinking about it, the trust thing defninitely factored into my decision on the Tristano-Konitz-Marsh box and the Atlantic New Orleans box. If I've never heard anything of a player and their Mosaic is going OOP, chances are the opinions of certain people on the board who largely share my taste are going to carry more weight than the trust factor.
  9. If memory serves, Bromberg was on a lot of smooth crapola well before the albums you mention. The leader dates may be more the exception than the rule.
  10. I can't play the above game from Firefox, although IE has no problems. (I can play other Flash games in Firefox.) Anyone know why?
  11. We're talking about the marching band here.
  12. Have been dipping my toe into South Asian dishes, starting with the simpler ones. Tonight: homemade masoor daal (orange lentils mixed with onions--in this case, leeks--a little tomato, garlic, and toasted cumin). Mixed it with some leftover Indian rice (one of the roommates had gotten takeout a couple days back) and some kind of pita-like bread. I think it was Syrian bread but I'm not sure. Whatever it was, it was dirt cheap and good.
  13. Anyone seen them live? They are playing Boston next Saturday and I'm debating going...
  14. Is it not as terrible if he does it at 3:00 in the afternoon?
  15. Jim Kiick Jerry Lundegaard Moonunit Zappa
  16. Fred Merkle Fred Mertz Desi Arnaz
  17. Why fly to to the US when you can just drive a half hour or so to another Euro-zone country to shop? You would think that iPod sales in the Netherlands would just disappear for this reason. I was under the impression that th iPod is already much more expensive in all of Europe than in the US, regardless of surcharge.
  18. With the Euro so strong against the dollar, we'd just end up with Ipod-tourism--people in the Netherlands deciding to take a quick trip to the States to go shopping. It's starting to happen with other things already.
  19. Larry David says in the commentary for the episode that he wrote it this way because he didn't think the show was coming back for another season and the NBC execs were pressuring him to bring in some romance. The weird part is that the 3rd season begins as if nothing ever happened, except for Jerry's conversation with his parents in "The Pen". Guy Yeah, I watched that part of the extras. You can tell that David was not at all comfortable with the idea. They did do a nice job adapting it to the general tone of the show with the "this, that, and the other" bit. Very well done.
  20. I got seasons 1 and 2 as a gift awhile back but didn't start watching them until this month. I'm mostly familiar with the middle seasons, so there was a lot of new stuff for me. Very interesting was the last episode of season 2 where Jerry and Elaine start getting romantically involved again, not only because it never happened again in the series, but also for how that aspect of the story was pretty much gone entirely by the later seasons. You could watch all of season 5 or 6 and never realize that Jerry and Elaine had once been a serious couple.
  21. John Stuart Mill Jon Stewart Bob Saget
  22. Seriously, what a dick. Didn't he know that Katie's all mine?
  23. Alfred E. Neuman F. Scott Fitzgerald Ali G
  24. Taylor Ho Bynum Fred Ho Santa Claus
