  1. Tim Duncan is a frickin (mild mannered) beast. If I was building a team from scratch and had to choose between him and Amare I'd take TD every time. edit: The Beast finds himself getting blown out in Phoenix! Kurt Thomas is having a great game. Guy
  2. I admit I was surprised by how this album sounded. I was expecting something a lot more outside but this was just a very swinging freebop date with some fantastic arrangements. I'd never heard Roswell Rudd before -- he is fantastic. One of my best pick ups at the Tower Sale. Guy
  3. Nah, I don't hate him. As long as what he does helps the Giants win games and he's aware of the consequences to his health... Guy
  4. The death of AJ would wrap up the series in a very dramatic way. It was foreshadowed in this last episode with AJ's suicidal depression and again when Tony reached for his gun as AJ was pulling up the driveway. The death of the son brings an end to the Sopranos. That's my hunch. Too bad they didn't do this 5 seasons ago. Guy
  5. Did not watch the Cavs-Nets game, but LeBron had a monster game! Vince Carter chucked his way to 26 pts. Guy
  6. This month: Ben Webster, Soulville Next month: Bobby Hutcherson,, Happenings
  7. I'm glad somebody started this thread because I've got a real itch to discuss Brazilian death metal. Guy
  8. Yes, but at this point in your life, could you use some more Sonny Rollins, Hank Mobley, Booker Little, George Coleman, and Stanley & Tommy Turrentine??? Well, the discs w/Sonny (which seem the most interesting to me) are in print individually. Guy
  9. I don't think that, at this point in my life, I need that much Max Roach. Guy
  10. Nothing in Agrippa I's biography on wikipedia suggests that he met with Jesus, so I'm guessing probably not. Guy
  11. There were three King Herods during Jesus's lifetime. The first was Herod the Great, who reigned when He was born. The second was I think Herod Agrippa, who had St. John the Baptist executed. The third I think was Herod Philipi (not sure about that), who met with Jesus Good Friday morning. No. Agrippa I came later, during the 30s and 40s -- when Caligula and Claudius were emperors. This is the Herod of I, Claudius, Herod the Great's grandson. You may be thinking of Herod Antipas. Don't hold me to that, however. Herod the Great has gotten something of a bum rap in popular history due to Christian and Jewish biases. Guy
  12. I wouldn't be so sure about that -- in 2005 the Suns lost the first three to the Spurs (including two at home) before coming back and winning game 4. That said, yes, a loss tonight puts them on life support. Guy
  13. GoodSpeak, it would be nice of you would concede that you were incorrect about the Bonds poll earlier. Guy
  14. I definitely wouldn't use the word "tame" to describe Jordan's playing with this group. Guy
  15. Or use an ipod/MP3 player. Guy
  16. Actually, it's 52% according to the ESPN.com article written by Jayson Stark. That's more than half; a majority. No, you are misreading the article. 52% DON'T want him to break the record. Here are the results of the poll. Guy
  17. You are selling Jim's defense of Cuscuna short. Jim's point is that interpreting Cuscuna's comment as a blanket smear of the musicians you listed in your earlier post makes no sense, because the guy has been a consistent advocate of their music. That said, I think this is a legit criticism. Guy
  18. Stephen Jackson turns the ball over a lot when he drives into the key. Guy
  19. Oh well... it looked like the Warriors had a chance to win that one. Lots of 3 point chucking near the end. Nice to see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle awaken from his slump to score 21 pts, though he did his usual 4th quarter disappearing act. Deron Williams outplayed Baron Davis. Matt Barnes had another great game. The Booze did not get 15 assists. Guy
  20. He wasn't king for 70 years -- that's a mistake in the article. (The Romans weren't ruling Judea in 74 BC either.) FWIW, I don't think there is a historical basis for the claim that he ordered all the children of Bethlehem to be killed. Guy
  21. My prediction for the Warriors-Jazz series -- assuming that Baron's healthy enough to perform as well as he did against the Mavs, the Jazz will in this in 5-7 games (so let's make it 6). If Baron's not healthy enough, Warriors will struggle to win more than a game. Guy
  22. Thanks for the photo, Tom. Guy
  23. The Pistons will not win this series... ...with a margin of 20 pts per game. Guy
  24. I've always thought it was hilarious how critics who'd slag prog rock as pretentious/bloated/self-indulgent/whatever would turn around and slobber all over Sonic Youth. Guy (Daydream Nation fan)
