  1. Now I'll always laugh whenever I hear that sound. reeet
  2. I love Crescent now more than I ever had before. These reasons have been detailed somewhat elsewhere on the board... I actually prefer Crescent to ALS. Guy - I'll have to dig out the tapes and check the dates.
  3. Shouldn't that be in the Horace Silver thread? Guy If it would quiet my critics, then why not!!
  4. The most horrible sound in the world? Skeeters buzzing in your ear!
  5. Well, using the Freakonomics that our good friend Alocispepraluger has outlined: ...I'd say that any idiotic post that is made, especially by myself and Mr. E, were made when we were drunk! Works for me!
  6. Not so much arrogant as it is worthless. How can one form a meaningful opinion about something they've never experienced? I might as well talk about my experiences in Baghdad.
  7. Try to get a hold on a performance from the Half Note called "Creation". A remarkable performance, even by '65 Coltrane standards. I think the sky opened. Guy Um, was that ever released on a smaller label? My good friend Ras Moshe sent me a couple of cassettes that were recorded at the Half Note in '65 that he said were in circulation on a smaller label way back and it was a 3 LP set. The playlist IS different than the recently released One Down, One Up on Impulse! I don't know if it's the same as you're talking about, but I can say it is one incredibly smoking set!
  8. I think the concert as a whole was disappointing (should have added it to my list), but I really like D&CiB. Guy An interesting opinion, Guy. And one that I agree with, BTW. I still find it odd how many folks point out that that performance at Newport somewhat reinvigorated Ellingtons career. Aside from that one tune and legendary solo, the rest of the set seemed rather uninspired.
  9. no i don't intend on ever hearing it. i can listen to the real thing on my "emergency" CD. Sorry man, but that is a really stupid statement. Or at the very least incredibly closed-minded. And this from the person who was just recently bemoaning my lack of participation in music threads?
  10. Especially when it comes to Jazz. It's not like we're talking teeny bopper Britney Spears-like bulletin boards. Her attitude seems very exclusionary and detrimental to trying to help keep this beautiful artform alive. And let me just add that my hat's off to you for NOT sharing that attitude.
  11. This thread has inspired me. Tonight, I drink!! I'll patiently await Conn's sarcastic rebuttal......
  12. David S. Ware. Godspelized, Surrendered, and The Freedom Suite were all fairly srong albums, IMO. The rest are fairly unremarkable.
  13. That's exactly how I feel. The jazz community needs to be close-knit and supportive instead of divided and paranoid. I harbor no ill-will towards any other jazz forum. Michael Ricci and I have a good relationship and I am fully supportive of what he's trying to do over there. Some people get rubbed the wrong way and that happens... you can't please everyone all the time. I've made my share of mistakes over here as well. It's a learning process. But to not be able to even mention the other boards... well, that's just a bit silly. I haven't heard back from her yet. But if I can confirm that that was indeed the reason, would you mind if I passed this post along to her? Hell, perhaps seeing this from you might change her mind a little?
  14. Piss on a post. You know, Master Nessa, I'm starting to note a certain "theme" in your postings recently.......
  15. You know, I had that on vinyl and I loved the original version of it because Gonsalves was playing into the wrong mic and throughout most of the solo what you mostly heard was the crowd going crazy while just barely being able to make out what Gonsalves was doing. But they really screwed it all up with the "complete" cd release because now you mostly hear Gonsalves while barely even hearing the crowd. The original version had more of a goosebumpy quality to it. Not to mention the incredibly irritating aspect of the "complete" cd moving in and out of stereo throughout. It's especially frustrating when listening to it through headphones.
  16. Cutting out anything from '65 is the ultimate sin!
  17. Yeah, but only on cassette. Some buddies from around the country have sent me a variety of material. I'm sure it's in no way a comprehensive account of the live '65 material though.
  18. I loved Scofields trio with Steve Swallow and Billy Stewart, and the album he did with Metheny, I Can See Your House From Here (also with Stewart at the kit). Aside from that, I haven't heard much else from him that I like.
