I clearly stated that IF it is a separately mastered recording, then the SACD would be worth the investment. But anyone that has even lightly studied digital music understands that ANYTHING created for SACD can be replicated on regular CD. Only those who don't understand how sampling rates and bit depths work are dazzled by huckster numbers. And for the record, I have several Mo-Fi releases, a couple of 20bit remasters, and some Blu-ray audio releases. All of them are wonderful. All but the Blu-ray are on CD, and the only reason the Blu-ray isn't is because of the surround channels added. If it's a sound below 22.05kHz (higher than we can hear), or a change in amplitude under 96dB), it can be put on a CD. Period. It's simple science, not magic. As Mike perfectly stated above (as did you in one of your examples), it's all in the (re-)mastering.

Die Hard is a Christmas Movie?
Scott Dolan replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I only saw the first one once when I was a teenager. I don’t even recall it being set around Christmas time... I’m not a fan of the blockbuster blow ‘em ups. -
Well, he’s right. They definitely DO NOT mention that!

What do you mean by “download cod”?
-
I don’t know why, but I always found that one overrated. Well, except for Cheepnis. I’m assuming it’s because of the stark difference in that band towards the end that tour as documented on The Helsinki Concert.

It’s indeed a headscratching decision. I’d like those books as well. I’m assuming the iTunes version will come with the digital booklets, but that’s hardly the same thing.

That last sentence was all you really needed to post. There is no higher resolution, just different sampling rates, and bit depth. Neither of which add anything that wouldn’t be audible on a redbook CD which offers a top frequency of 22.05kHz (well above the frequencies you or I can hear), and 96dB of dynamic range (and very few recordings will even use 30dB, with most being under 20dB). Interestingly, 24bit audio offers a dynamic range of 144dB. Just to give you an idea how absurd that is, the human eardrum ruptures right around 150dB. I remember years ago reading about different tests that were conducted by various audio engineers, and others, that found no difference between CD and SACD of identical material. I think those findings were published in some stereo journals and kind of led to the downfall of SACD.

Again, there would be no difference between CD and SACD unless they are two different masters. Their decision not to release a digital copy in physical form speaks volumes as to just how dead a medium it is, unfortunately.
-
Why? This will all be be “pressed” from the same master, so there’d be no difference other than price. Although I do find it curious they’re not releasing this on CD.

Been binging on these cats since I saw this thread this morning! The date with Iyer is out of this world!

I only heard her material with Prima, but her voice was sheer magic.
-
Which is a fair point. Tony Williams was quite the aberration. I can’t think of any other teenagers that could hang with a master like that.

I did have to laugh at their description of the sound being “amazingly better than Bluetooth”. Especially since Bluetooth doesn’t have a sound...

It definitely would not for me. I would take most of his Prestige, all but MFT from his Atlantic period, and all of his Impulse! albums except for Kulu Se Mama over Blue Train. That said, his solo on the title track is arguably the most ferocious he ever recorded. The rest of the band sounded outmatched, although many here refuted that the last time I mentioned it. I like Morgan, but his reluctant tooting and tweeting solo on the title track points to just how out of their league Coltrane was, even as early as 1957.

Incredibly enough, it does! https://www.cultofmac.com/387018/how-to-set-up-airplay-mirroring-on-a-raspberry-pi/

Yes. Kinda. I use my Airport Express as my main Wi-Fi, then have an Apple TV connected to my main system. There are times (though thankfully not often), when either my iPad will not find the Apple TV, OR my Apple TV will not connect to the Airport Express. A simple reset takes care of the problem.

Well, it's pretty interesting that you never post real time scores when they're losing.

Gloating, overly excited, whatever... You were counting the proverbial chickens before they hatched.

Has the bottom fallen out of the Mosaic market?
Scott Dolan replied to Dmitry's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Oh cool! Then it must be back in print, or was it a used copy? That's an outstanding price, though. It's been a few years since I looked it up on eBay, but I remember the CD box sets being sold for $300+! Insanity! -

Yeah, I'm right there with you. I never bought any piece of music thinking, "in the future I could sell this for a mint!" I don't begrudge those that DO look at it as an investment, but it's definitely not my thing. If it's not reasonably priced and relatively accessible, I'm not interested. Hell, based on prices I've seen the Plugged Nickel box going for, I could get double what I paid for it. But why? -

Good question. My guess is probably not, because vinyl is a hipster fad that's mostly about the medium itself. I think for Mosaic's to have a similar revival the younger generations would have to alter their musical tastes. You have to keep in mind that youngsters are buying vinyl, but it's mostly of music they already enjoy. -
Yeah, real time scoring and gloating tends to backfire more often than not.

Yeah, I saw the Saints early in the season and their defense looked...serviceable. Which is leaps and bounds better than they had been. But now they're just short of being lockdown. Probably the most surprising turnaround in the league next to the Rams offense.
