    Post! Post! Post!
  2. There are 2 different approaches. Usually I'll go more towards the soothing. Something West Coast, Modern Jazz Giants works wonders. There are many fine suggestions above too. But sometimes the thing that works best is brain Drano. That's when I reach for Ascension.
  3. Man Pujol's shot was sweet! When the announcers said "don't throw him a fastball" I shouted "hit a hanger into the Crawford boxes." (Boy do I hate that name for some reason.) Eck hung a slider vs. Gibson, and when the pitch is flat it goes a country mile. I think the extra word with the right side infielders may have tipped the 'stros hand as far as the pitch too. Woo hoo! Thank you Albert for letting me revisit my old childhood park (via the tube) at least one more time!
  4. I love the killer filler on that one too. That vies with DP12 for my favorite, though there are a bunch more that have been favorites too depending on the day. My favorite of the bunch (in the 30s) is DP31 (8/4-6/74), though I have the full shows rather than the pick. (I know, bad Deadhead.) I haven't heard the rarer releases though (DP30 Academy of Music '72 & DP35 from August '71.) The October '76 shows (DP33) are nice. Too bad The Who's sets aren't available too. My favorite '76 release is DP20, mainly for the 9/28 "Orange Tango Jam." One of those unique things Jerry cooked up on the spot. DP 34 is 10/5/77. Yup, yet another terrific '77 release and you're right, the 3rd from fall. Boom bada boom - it's a Phil kind of show. I haven't because I don't approve of the price they're charging for FLAC and I'm not interested in MP3. Just another cranky Deadhead.
  5. As a "gone native" M's fan I do miss him. But wasn't the draw of hometown Tampa partially responsible for him leaving too? Along with the bold dream of turning the Devil Rays (who may be renamed ) around into a winner. (Actually if Tampa spent another $20 million wisely they'd have a pretty darn good team.) Well, we wouldn't have had both Randy & Freddy at the same time (not that you were saying that.) But I hear ya! It bugs me the amount of money they spend on the likes of Raul Ibanez yet they didn't scrape together enough on the above. Though I guess Randy was disgruntled, Jr. wanted to be closer to FL, and Alex wanted to be closer to NYC museums. We'll be back!
  6. Oh I agree! I was so pleased when he suggested that he'd have Figgins swing away with a man on second. (I HATE bunting a guy from 2nd to 3rd. The circumstances for doing it with a non-pitcher at the plate are rarely justified in my book.) Timmy says "how can you not bunt with the way Figgins is swinging." Hit & run and Figgins hits it to right. Lou seems to be enjoying the gig and mentioned to the press that he's thinking of giving it a go for next year. (Fox hasn't committed one way or another.) I'd take him over most of the lot out there. I did think Al Leiter did a pretty good job last year too, but Lou gives a fuller picture of things as he's a manager.
  7. Me too. And for a cookie cutter it was the most attractive with the trim around the top (sorry, the architectural term escapes me) that hinted at the neighboring arch. Or something. For all the talk of "this could be Roger's last game" saying bye bye to Busch is tougher for me, even if many of the fans in the area I know say "'bout time." All of those rabbit teams on turf - who thought baseball played on plastic could be so much fun to watch!
  8. Darn tootin'! I recall a bunch of people complaining (not here) when that came out. They ranged from being bummed that it wasn't a whole show to "of all the stuff from '74, you pick this." Others say it's too mellow. It's a keeper!
  9. Maybe he thought you were talking about the singing monks from Greece. Thelonious sounds nothing like them, hence you must be crazy!
  10. D'oh! I'll be durned. I haven't been paying attention (surprise surprise.) Well I tells ya, beware of those emails that are supposedly from PayPal anyway.
  11. I've been getting the similar one for PayPal at about the same rate. The links provided in the e-mail begin with https:/ Like, the internet protocol went out and got all plural on me when I wasn't looking.
  12. For the curious you can check out 3 Dock Boggs songs from 1927 over at the Internet Archive (It's legal by the way.) Country Blues Pretty Polly Danville Girl
  13. Eric Dolphy. Also (not jazz) Brian Wilson. Also born in the same year as Johnny Depp.
  14. Dude, he's talking about a different kind of "taper." Nice quote and all, but since you're quoting Tom you know that he ended up taking the patent office gig and that he later changed his tune a hair, seeing value in how intellectual property rights encourage invention. Don't know about others but I feel like I've read the complete disregard of intellectual property ramblings in Wired, only instead of the peach & purple background of the O the color scheme was hot fuschia and lime green. I file it in the same place as the "new economy" and Dow 36,000 articles.
  15. Seeing that photo I can't help but think of those Kellogg's 3d baseball cards.
  16. Dude, if you mean 10 years, just say 10! What are you, a Roman or do you work for Apple?
  17. Yes, and it was the ripping off of ideas by the lazy and unscrupulous is why intellectual property was thunk up. (Some) drugs, furniture, speakers, amplifiers, books, songs, planes trains automobiles and on & on & on all have intellectual property rights components to them. The difference unlike music it's too damn hard to make a dozen planes with your computer in a couple of hours.
  18. Has anyone picked up James Carter's tribute to Pavement? AMG review. This slipped by me when I was ordering Conns. It sounds interesting.

I must admit this thread has rekindled an interest. Things like Divided Sky and the lineup of songs mentioned in gdogus's post especially. Better get to it before the Conns arrive! Edited to add I threw on Hampton 11-22-97 and now 5 songs in. I retract the cotton candy remark earlier. Very nice!

I came late to them so I did what many kids do now; I just relied on CDRs of live shows. Oh wait, I did buy a few of the official Live releases too. I had the same "somewhere along the way" sensation. I've kept more than I probably need just as insurance, though I may trim the herd some more when shelf space problems arise again. A year ago I ended up trading 30+ Phish CDRs for 2 pints of Dead Guy Ale and a enough to tip the bartender. I thought it was a great trade. For me Phish was like cotton candy. It was tasty at the time but not that nourishing. But I don't rule out having their music click with me again someday. Cause when it did, it really clicked.

In 1972 "Playing In The Band" often ended the 1st set. "Bird Song" was part of the 1st set until "Weather Report Suite" more or less replaced it in late '73. The latter also was a first set song about half the time throughout much of '74. So that's some of their best material right there. But then I also wouldn't want to do without "Bertha" or "Jack Straw" which could appear in either set. Hell, I even like the cowboy songs as performed from through '74.

I went through a phase where I greatly enjoyed the jams in the longer songs. However there aren't many shows that I can listen to without hitting the skip button. I just don't care for their shorter songs and find their songwriting to be fairly weak. And I could never get into what some diehards cared about, such as appearances of "Harpua" or Gamehendge. I just haven't reached for them in quite a long time as I have so many other things to play and new stuff to explore, but I have maybe 20 shows to fall back on if I get in the mood again. Aside from '93-'95 I really like those late Novemeber/early December '97 shows. Let's try not to let this get too ugly (ala rec.music.gdead or phish.)
  23. Oh my, they're hitting the hard stuff I see. That's a big one alright. No doubt about it, I may already have "crispy" soundboard CDRs with a colorful cover on photo paper in a quad case, but to get this baby in HDCD all gussied up...<wolf whistle> Mmm, mmm, mmm! - I'll be placing an order! This will be the 3rd September '72 DP and there are still some great dates left (like 9/28.)
  24. They sold those with the same name in the US. My sister had an orange one. Um, orange bike that is (gotta be careful in this thread.) It (the bike) was great for doing wheelies on. Carefully withdrawing...erm, leaving this thread now...
  25. I'm surprised it took this long! Heh heh, you said long. GOOD THING I DON'T SPELL MY FIRST NAME WITH AN "A."
