  1. I dunno, we talk about unreleased live '67 Miles recordings, the Coltrane tree, rare Woody Shaw recordings, etc. etc. I suppose those are more fair game to talk about as this is a jazz board (or is it a political board with a jazz section?) Granted it was months ago that I read the thread about CD-R trading, but I thought sharing information about recordings was OK. If trades are being made I don't see any happening out in the open.
  2. Ooooo, this is spooky. About a month ago I finally got around to reading Ubik. I just decided to dig out Sirens which I gave up on early in the going about 15 years ago (I found the receipt as a bookmark.) 30 pages into Siren now and I can't believe I stopped where I did. I suppose I found it too different from Vonnegut's other books at the time. Or I've grown up! In between those by pure chance I read 2 books concerning the almost end-of-the-world both centered around San Francisco. Dick's Dr. Bloodmoney (dee-lightful!) and George Stewart's tale of a quick & deadly plague and the aftermath. No, I don't wish harm to San Francisco, honest. Not sure if I'd call the latter great literature, but it was an engrossing read. Dick's imagination is so vivid...where's my wine tasting thesaurus? Not qualified for the label argument, but I stepped into this anyway.
  3. Ya know, you have the makings for a great rock song here...
  4. Psssssst. Guy, you're supposed to call them "private tapes." Then it's OK. akanalog passed along some goodies, here's a couple more though I'm not sure they're on Dime at the moment (been camping for a few days so I'm behind.) ------------------ Fillmore West 4-29-70 1. Grantchester Meadows > 2. Astronomy Domine 3. Cymbaline 4. Atom Heart Mother 5. Embryo Disc 2 1. Green is the Colour 2. Careful With That Axe, Eugene 3. Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun 4. A Saucerful of Secrets (1st Encore) 5. Interstellar Overdrive (2nd Encore) Exceptionally good sounding board. A DVD is out there as well. I gave mine away as since there's no volcano to watch it's dreadfully dull viewing. The CDs (which I obviously held on to) without the visuals are terrific though. This one is pretty darn good too: Concertgebouw, Amsterdam 9-17-69 Part 1 - The Man 01. Introduction 1:00 02. Daybreak 8:11 03. Work 3:53 04. Tea Time 3:34 05. Afternoon 5:13 06. Doing It 4:03 07. The End Of The Beginning 6:54 Total Time: 40:23 Comment The most famous of The Man and The Journey performances. There's a pre-FM of this that sounds great. ----------------------- Apologies if one or both of these was mentioned and I missed it. I'm running on very little sleep after camping & hiking for a couple of days. All that fresh air has made me loopy.
  5. Another thanks to Clandy for posting the article. I used to subscribe to the WSJ, and always appreciated the Arts & Leisure section as a break from all of the business. I'm also happy to get a 3rd or 4th confirmation on this: September 'Miles Davis: The Cellar Door Sessions 1970' (6 CDs) I've now seen it in print enough that I'm just about ready to believe it will happen!
  6. There is a thread here which suggest that using Mozilla 1.0.2 will allow access to the forums. iCab 2.9.8 seems to work as well for those using OS9. 'fraid I don't know much about OS9 as I signed up with X. Congrats on the reading!
  7. I never pictured that happening all those years ago while watching Blue Lagoon. Me thinks she paid attention in them there classes at Princeton. And in all seriousness it is a serious problem. More power to her for trying to help and for standing up to that little dork Cruise.
  8. From your town & mine, Happy Birthday! Hope the newly arrived summer is treating you well.
  9. YEOW! That's a blast from the past! I'm really starting to love this trend of digging out shows that were too good for TV and slapping them on to DVD. indeed!
  10. Of all things it's up there already: John Coltrane - Live Trane Underground Disc 11 (Reseed) John Coltrane - Live Trane Underground Disc 12 (Reseed)
  11. Aside from asking the good foodie folks here there's a site called roadfood.com that can be good to look through. There are forums for BBQ, sandwiches, and so on, along with a "Where Should I Eat" forum devoted to people wanting to know the best eats for various cities and drives. The site was started by the Sterns who have written guidebooks on road food and also write a column for Gourmet. Most of the site is free though there is a subscriber section as well. I don't visit it that often anymore as reading about the finer hot dogs, pizza and BBQ in other parts of the country can make this Oregon boy wanna cry. Oh well, we do have great beer here to drown our sorrows in!
  12. Got individual pictures of the women's and men's team here. The men's is on the following pages. You can go one at a time to see the name & event associated with each photo by placing your mouse over it (but don't click.) This trick doesn't seem to be working for my browser but I'm not using IE.
  13. DVD Beaver says... Image: Elite Millennium & Elite Collectors - tie Sound: Fox Extras: Elite Millenium See the site for more detail. It's graphic intensive so even on a high speed connection it can take some time to load.
  14. Very reliable. I've used them a few times for previous OJC runs. Helpful Hint : To see if the disc you're after is in stock click "(CD Info)." I haven't ordered from alldirect in a few months, but I know* at least a few OJC titles that were out of stock last time are now in stock. *I have an alldirect OJC spreadsheet that I use to plan my orders.
  15. That's a heck of a program line up they've killed! I've been renting Firefly and have been told about Wonderfalls by a few friends. I loved The Tick & Andy Richter but probably missed a few episodes. So The Tick is a great DVD idea for now with an eye out for Andy later. As it's rare that I try more than one new show a season I started to take these cancellations very personally. I find it interesting that a cancelled show (Firefly) ends up having a movie made (out in autumn I believe) with the possibility of 2 more after that if that one does well. Ah, the power of the internet I guess.
  16. The Bob Newhart Show Season 1 South Park Season 3 Looney Tunes Golden Collection 2 On the way: Rocky & Bullwinkle Season 1 Lonesome Dove (The 1st mini-series. For $7 what the heck.) I resisted buying I, Claudius during the big deepdiscountdvd sale. As much as I love it I can rent it instead as I'd rather spend the $ towards another Mosaic.
  17. I think the travelling/charges by Manu are offset by the travelling/double dribbles by Hamilton (and vice versa.) It's long been a given that certain players are allowed an extra step, but sometimes it's just silly out there.
  18. I just have the last three titles (well, I have "other" too). Sun Ship & First Meditations were neck and neck but First finished first. Somehow I picked up a fair bit of pre-'65 and post but I missed the other titles on the list.
  19. Wernher von Braun. Wait...I mean Tom Lehrer!
  20. Yeah! I was just listening to the radio show package that I plucked off of the Dime last night. Lucky you!
  21. I think Pink Floyd should have gone this route rather than dive right into Live8.
  22. GOOD! On to Mosaic or Dusty Groove then...
  23. After 12 business days I received word today that all but 1 disc are shipping. So it looks like the package will arrive right around my birthday. Not bad at all! Hmm, so that sale is still going on ya say...
  24. As my friend found out after I played a few of Lehrer's songs (I had 3 albums to pick from) a couple of days later. Which is exactly what my friend said afterwards. Yet another thing Lehrer does better than Russell. Math!
  25. I knew the words to this song & "Pollution" when I was 5. Didn't completely understand "Vatican Rag" at that age, but I knew the lyrics nonetheless. That Was The Year That Was is still my favorite for those songs and "National Brotherhood Week" and "Wernher Von Braun." Oh hell, "So Long Mom I'm Off To Drop The Bomb" too, and... When telling someone about Lehrer one time the person interrupted and said "Oh, you mean like Mark Russell." I nearly bit the person's head off for trying to associate Mark Russell with Tom Lehrer.
