I found my copy as a Japanese cutout. Imagine if they were all priced so nicely! It was on my hunting list thanks to a Konitz thread and at the time I was after all things Joe Henderson. As others have said it is blessed with variety and I like the way it was sequenced. I particularly like the "Variations on Alone Together" and how it all comes together at the end. As with many of the finer things in life it gets better with each playing.

Hooray Hooray! Wishing you a happy day with some quality music time!

Me too. I own a copy of "Dead Man" mainly because I got it cheap. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy it too and it has good replay value. I guess it must as I recall years ago a bar in Tampa used to play it every Tuesday or Wednesday night for months. As far as Jarmusch being a Neil Young fan he certainly is. Check out "Year of the Horse." It contains a very funny scene involving a small fire in a hotel room. Still haven't seen his latest. Shame on me, but I suppose it will be out on DVD soon if it hasn't snuck past me in that format too.

The Hendrix site has plenty to offer for the whole family too. Follow the links on thru as direct links might not work. How 'bout an "Are You Experienced diaper cover" available in 3 different sizes. Light switch covers, pillows, go ahead and decorate your whole house in a Hendrix theme. Air fresheners & incense too. (Hmm, "Wild Blue Angel" or "Smash Hits" for the bathroom?) Write that check with an official Axis Bold As Love pod pen!

Oh no problem, and I understand. I used to make do with American Beauty, Working Man's Dead and then later the Skull & Roses album and a tape of Europe '72. That was about all I needed. I never understood why someone would want to follow a band for weeks or months, even a band at its peak. Sooner or later surely one would want to hear something else, right? I was horrified at how limited the listening experience was for some Deadheads. For a few it consisted of hundreds of live Dead tapes and some Dead side projects like Old & In The Way, Weir's Kingfish or Ace album, and then perhaps some album from an artist who appeared on the bill. In the '90s this meant having a Hornsby album in the collection. That type of single mindedness of a few (by no means all) fans kind of scared me away from pursuing massive amounts of live shows that happened later. In fact what led to being more enthusiastic about the Dead was talking with friends who had a wide range of musical interests who also happened to have Dead lying around. The Grateful Dead are probably the #1 "gateway" band for those who move from a previous mainly rock background into jazz. Here's an oldy but a goody from the usenet. A bit hard to read but it's a hoot. Dead Music Appreciation Flowchart

It's actually 3 CDs, but you're right about its association with Live/Dead. I haven't heard it yet, but I have a friend who has and is very impressed with the sound quality. He has had the tapes/CDRs of the run for years and considers the new official release to be a step up over the fine sounding stuff that was circulating before. Not that you have to buy it here, but here's the link for the title at CD Universe: Fillmore West 1969

On the '63 Dodgers the much traveled Bob Miller was the 4th starter. He only started 23 to Koufax's 42. And yup, Claude was a Senator in '63. Jim Bunning was not.

The pride of Quincy, IL. Hmm, how would I know that?

Los Angeles??? ← Don't worry, you didn't miss out on an instate roadtrip opportunity. It isn't Cream that curdled but the writer's brain. They did not play LA.

THANK YOU! Yes, it all came back to me after hearing that. It helped me recall the jumping sound effects too. (Also shot in slow motion. For a guy who was supposed to be better than before he sure moved slow!) Hearing the theme also made me think of '70s football highlights. Which of course were also in slow motion. Which just happens to be the speed I'm moving at this morning.

Ah shucks, this is going to drive me nuts. I remember the sound effects when the 6 Million Dollar Man runs fast (always in slow motion), or the sound that his bionic eye makes when it zooms in, but I can't for the life of me remember what the theme sounded like while the "we can rebuild him" narration was spoken over it. Must search for sound samples! I just happened to spin Soul Message yesterday too.

Cheers!

Not sure if it's the record, but Bucky Harris won the '24 World Series with the Senators as an almost 28 year old player-manager. More importantly, I do know that this is the first time I've been older than the winning manager of the World Series.

The 1966 Dodgers went 33 innings without scoring vs. the Baltimore Orioles. Not positive if that's the record but it sure is grim! They scored 1 run in the 2nd & 3rd innings of Game 1 and that was all she wrote.

You'll love the live Birdland & Bohemia discs. Try 1 of each if you like or buy them in pairs. The announcements by Pee Wee Marquette on Birdland along with hearing Mr. Blakey speak add to the fun. With Thelonious Monk is another fine one. There are a few different issues floating around so if someone can chime in on which is the preferred please do. Although Roots And Herbs has not been released as an RVG I wouldn't let that stop you from buying it. There are others but those are 6 that get a lot of play time.

Hmm, I kinda want to hear "Secret Agent Man," especially after hearing the Harold Land "James Bond" album. The other 2 songs I'm curious about because of the novelty sounding song names and the short times. "I Can't Grow Peaches On A Cherry Tree*" sounds like one of those songs that Mrs. Hank Williams Sr. sang with Hank. Good thing you included personnel, otherwise I'd be sure that somehow the Ramones were involved with the recording. *Or apparently Nancy Sinatra.

It's worked at least once. There was a science fiction show called Firefly by the creator of Buffy the Vampire. Both shows had a massive cult following although unlike Buffy Firefly only ran for a few episodes on Fox. The cult following and subsequent DVD sales of Firefly led to a movie being made that might still be in theaters now called "Serenity." I think they're still waiting on worldwide numbers to figure out whether to make a movie sequel, restart the tv series or if it's that's all folks.

Baseball-Reference dot com. I don't think it can answer questions such as number of World Series grand slams, but it is very, very good. Be sure to check out the Frivolities section as there is some fun & silly stuff in there. For instance now you can easily discover things such as who played for both the A's & Giants (multi-franchise player tool.) A great time waster!

Joe Buck's father saw something similar 20 years ago. "Go crazy folks!" Some differences, but still very unlikely. WHAT A SERIES! I'm now rooting for the Astros for the next game, maybe 2 as I don't want this one end!

I know you asked for trashy, but how 'bout something weird (& sporting!) [if it's not showing go to the link below and click "Acid Orgy."] Vintage cover site

You can take the boy out of the Midwest...Why the hell did I ever leave! "She lived like a wicked, little animal." If not showing go here and click "Farm Girl."

Since Halloween is right around the corner... ...or go here and click "Flowers & Flesh."

I altered this one for a Grateful Dead cdr cover. Changed "Death" to "Dead." How clever. (There used to be a better scan online but this will do.)

All the best on your day! Thanks for sharing your magic closet with us (and so much more.)

Yup, I feel much the same way. I have a friend who is a born 'n' bred Astro fan. He had nightmares about Pujols last night (I guess for game 6 & 7.) What they went through in 1980 LCS was so brutal, and '86 was tough on 'em too. Check out ESPN's Page 2 column by Simmons for more thoughts on last night. This is one of the few playoffs in years where I won't have a strong dislike for "the other team." I'm not totally sure in my mind who da other team be yet!
