  1. Yup, it's been happening to me too. At least once a day, sometimes twice. I wasn't sure if it was just a coincidence that it was happening when reading this forum but I don't so. My current solution is to use Camino for reading organissimo and use Safari for everything else. I'm bi-OS as well.
  2. Bobby is an idiot, pure and simple. Even he can't muddle through the line of b.s. he gave in the interview. Not to drag politics into our Dead corner, but while listening to the clip I couldn't help but think how awesome it would be to hear a debate between Bobby & our President. Between the stammering, made up words and excuses it could be quite a contest. Slip Bush a dose and it might even become more interesting. Yee-haw!
  3. Below is a link that will take you to a direct download of Bob Weir commenting (or trying to ) about the archive.org controversy. It's kind of a tough listen as he stammers his way through, but I love the voice he uses when criticizing the "information wants to be free" crowd. Bob on archive.org
  4. The following is from 1 post on rec.music.gdead that might be of interest. The title of the post is "So what about Download Series vol 8?" From "strider," Dec. 6 2005. "Dave Lemieux said on a radio show sunday night that there will be two downloads this month (one from 1970 - some st stephen - nfa - stephen - 10/5?) - another trucking buffalo dvd next year - dp next march - they aren't sure which one. Individual shows from the fillmore will be available for download. They WILL be releasing runs in the future. The reason for only 10,000 was based upon the sales of DPs (like dp 26) from that era." Regarding Download Vol 8 I have to tip my hat. It's 12/10/73 from Charlotte. All that circulates is 1/2 of the last song & the encore. And in December '73 the boys could do no wrong. What a thing to dangle in front of the hardcore fans with the boycott and all.
  5. I do believe I'm going to buy myself the Mosaic Classic Capitol Jazz Sessions box. I've been a very good boy this year!
  6. Yup. I saw it again just a couple of weeks ago. That bug makes great speed. Jacqueline Bisset sure was lovely.
  7. That was fun! US 96% 5 miles (Darn that Iowa. I even grew up next to it!) Europe 87% 68 miles error (Oh those wee places.) South America 85% 74 miles error (I misplaced Bolivia too far north. ) Asia 94% 36 miles error (I was going to put Georgia in the right place but thought the map was already colored. Oh well.) Africa 79% avg error 331 miles (I had a course on African geography 20 years ago. The names keep changing.) Middle east 94% 18 miles (Off a bit on Jordan)
  8. It comes from a Beatles fanclub Christmas message by John Lennon. "Gary Crimble to you..." MP3s of the fanclub recordings can probably be found online. Here's the O.E.D. entry: Crimble, n. DRAFT ENTRY Dec. 2002 Brit. slang. Forms: 19- Chrimble, Crimble. Also with lower-case initial. [Humorous alteration of CHRISTMAS n., perh. reflecting childish speech. Cf. earlier CRIMBO n.] Christmas. Cf. CRIMBO n. 1963 J. LENNON in Beatles Fan Club Recording in New Musical Express 6 Dec. 10/2 Garry Crimble to you, Garry Crimble to you, Garry Bable, Dear Christmas, Happy Birthday, me too! 1987 Just Seventeen 16 Dec. 6/2 Stevie's determined to have a well-wacky Crimble do. 1994 Sun Zoom Spark Dec. 22/3 Couldn't we just shut him in the attic and let him out for 12 days around Crimble along with the baubles and tinsel. 2002 Observer 6 Jan. (Business section) 7/8 As..only 300 digital radio sets were in the shops this Crimble, the company's performance on the stock market shouldn't really be a surprise.
  9. #2230 Like Parkertown I have to be careful about when I play it. The cat digs it though.
  10. I can't help but think how ineffective the boycott will be considering the closest thing to an official purchase in many of the "entitleds'" collections is burned copies of Dick's Picks.
  11. That's not fair. I can't even do that sober. When sober I always hestitate doing the alphabet backwards around w-v-u (hmm, West Virginia University) and another place too that varies. Um, not that I count the alphabet backwards often (only comes up when talking about DUI tests.) Maybe if I got drunk I'd do better.
  12. Within the past couple of years I've been delving more into the period you love. There are some nights where I think why would I want to listen to any other tenor player than Hawkins or Webster. When I started listening to jazz once I moved beyond Miles & Atlantic/Impulse! Coltrane I was buying a lot of Blue Notes. I still play my fair share but discovering that little label called Verve was a delightful thing to do. There's some pretty good stuff on that label, ya know? And this one is a beauty!
  13. Next stop: The boxing hall of fame!
  14. It's very sweet of you to rumor that Bobby is the brains. Probably a first!
  15. Back to peach. It's like the color of the Financial Times, only with better content!
  16. It's 120 miles north. Probably best known (if at all) for the architecture & for high school basketball in the '70s & early '80s. Just 14 miles from Twain's hangout Hannibal MO. Couldn't wait to get the hell out of there and now I use the name as a handle. Go figure. Oh and to the day after birthday boy no problem re the credit. I do that 10 last post thing too sometimes. I was just surprised that I beat the European folks to the punch. Ah, the advantages of the midnight O reader.
  17. Get out! I guess he wants to be far away from the eastern media. Or something. Whew, I'm trying to imagine Manny patrolling LF in Safeco. Huh...I just can't picture him in a Mariner uniform. Pretty shocking news, I had no idea he felt that way about us.
  18. I say, I say, I say son, I may be from Cardinal country but I'm from the Land of Lincoln. (The town is my handle) Not important to anyone else, but when you grow up on the right side of the Mississippi you just gotta say so.
  19. As far as I know there's no change in the trading of soundboards policy. Sure trading can take more work, sometimes even requiring 2 or 3 tries to get a good copy of a show, but I always enjoyed the human touch. The speed at which the net & bit torrenting can spread shows is so much faster compared to old fashioned trading I can't blame them at all for the policy change. Several other groups that allow taping are anti-torrent, such as the Allman Bros. & Jorma. I was great while it lasted, but it looks like the old fashioned way of trading shows & B&Ps still lives on.
  20. The Great Deceiver is available at the Discipline Global Mobile shop for $63 (before shipping.) That's less than I paid for it (from them a few years ago) and it's worth every penny. Epitaph 3 & 4 is available for $13.99 from the same providing you spell it correctly in the search box. As they own their music they're doing a great job at keeping their catalog in print. I've ordered from them many times and never had any problems.
  21. Very interesting. I have yet to buy downloaded music but I think they may have gotten me. Good mix of stuff with more to come. I like the write ups for each show as well. For Jahnhalle '74: "What had seemed robust in the music the night before (at Mainz) now became threatening . . . the unsettling power of the performance comes through." It's interesting that it's $12.95 FLAC whether 1 disc or 2. But it's a price point that seems fairer than a certain other band famous for their live shows that shall go nameless. Now I'm going to pretend I haven't looked over the site until sometime after T-Day! OK, if I get some Xmas shopping done I'll reward myself with something Crim! Thanks for the heads up.
  22. Happy Birthday to the one who has the bounciest avatar! Have a great day!
  23. Beckett's got great stuff but he sure has problems with blisters on his fingers. However, the blisters have helped keep him from pitching too many innings as a youngster, all the better for his shoulder & arm long term. As long as some progress is made regarding the blister problems he would be a terrific pick up. He's already proven he can pitch in Yankee Stadium in a high pressure situation.
  24. What goes around comes around. While Allen may not have called Clementine a douche in the "Where's Clementine" thread (while Clementine was away from the board), I seem to recall endless digs & snipes at him and his character. Why don't you just ignore him, as some of us here enjoy what he has to say. I'm still running (er, more like strolling as I've been slow about it) down his list of country recs from way back.
  25. The package is too much like the older box sets like the one for The Who. On the one hand there might be a market for a box with 1/3 rarities and 2/3s the same old stuff, but I'm not buying that kind again unless I can find it cheaper than dirt. (And that'd be cheaper than what yourmusic will charge assuming they stock it.) They were just too late for me. I have CDRs of a bootleg boxset Crossing The Great Divide. The early Hawks stuff is interesting but it's not something that will get played tons. I've traded for various live shows and their hard drinking reputation certainly did effect their playing at times. Some of them are a mess. Regarding Watkins Glen, there was an official release in '94. However, it wasn't all Watkins Glen. Naughty naughty. Read about it here. Note - Both links above take you to the same site about The Band.
