It's just so stupid to have that long of a wait. Why? If there had been a game 5, it would have been played Weds, right? Ok, perhaps Friday then....still, 2 days wouldn't have seemed that bad. When do the Yanks vs. ? game start? Even in 2000 the winner in a max _LDS series typically played 2 days later. I picked 2000 to show I'm not completely living in the '70s. The extra day they've been throwing in-between non-travel games in some series doesn't help matters either. However as baseball has a much looser definition of playable conditions nowadays I can't get all Chicken Little about the danger of inclement weather the further into November we go. Had Bud been Commish in '75 they probably would have played on those rainy days in Boston. Oops, back to the '70s I go! But that wait from the 16th to the 21st for Game 6 was traumatic to the 12 year old me.

That's for sure. Mostly for the player, though Berigan will likely accept sympathy too given they share a name.

Assuming there's no m3u type playlist file created for them, any way you want to. These are not "play" discs, they are data discs, meaning that the cuts - the individual files, the data - are yours to do with what you please. So it's okay to play them backwards, or will doing so infect my computer?

Over the past few months SI has had some excellent articles on Cox, Billy Wagner and Jim Thome. I think the last one made me think it could be a Cinderella story for the Twins, or that's what I wanted after reading the article. Holy cow, quite the gutty 6-4-3 in the 10th by your Braves!

The green dot "down Broadway" in the square was to Jeter, not Berkman. I agree about the earlier called strike to Lance was way outside. Not quite as bad as Eric Gregg's freaky trapezoid strikezone from '97 for Livan (but then what the hell could be?), but a lousy job behind the plate for the ump.
-
He's been ejected from playoff games before (World Series if I recall right). Though he's not on the bench he's still managing (a recent SI article said so.) It's not like they blindfold him and keep him away from TV or radio in the clubhouse, though Berigan probably wouldn't mind if they did.

Fewer parents though. Yowsa, before dinner the Reds were cruisin'. Advantage Phils now, though Lidge in the 9th has been more interesting this year.

I twice worked a tennis match (they were desperate) and it was brutal. Things happen too quickly. I didn't appreciate how much bluffing is needed in a job like that, as often it's better to act like you saw it even if you didn't. Speaking of charts of the strike zone... The ball call that went right down Broadway was pretty nuts. I'm surprised someone hasn't suggested that the real reason why baseball doesn't want replay is that it would make it harder for them to rig the games. (You know, since every conspiracy imaginable is on the net somewhere.)

I winced a little when I saw the 3rd base coach slap Torres' stomach after he slid into 3rd during the rundown. The guy had his appendix taken out 3 weeks ago. Oh sure it wasn't that hard, and Torres likely has abs, and compared to sliding in head first it's nothing I guess. No doubt about it, a Giants-Phils NLCS would be fun, though we've only played 1 thus far.

He had a 2.57 ERA vs. the Rangers in 2 starts, so that may have been it. His RA was double that.

It took me awhile to realize they were saying bakin' and not bacon. And I grew up around accents like that!

The way the past season has gone, just assume the worst. Yay, Braves-Giants today to add to the fun. edited to add winky.

Wow! Makes Cliff Lee look like a chump.

It's a movie of someone opening up the Mother's Best set that comes with a cathedral radio that plays selections from the set. It looks like this: Get it here.

Once more with feeling. A losing record in September doesn't seem to matter as far as playoff success. Also, being hot in September does not translate into playoff success. Another look from 2000-2008.

Congrats to our Braves & Giants* fans. Now you have to face each other! *Not you Matthew, undercover Dodger fan. It all has an old school ring to it. I like it!

Stop yer sobbin' Yankee fans. "A statistical study five years ago showed that winning in September actually had a negative correlation to winning in the playoffs. The baseball statistics website The Hardball Times studied every playoff team from 1969 to 2004 and found that, on average, World Series winners had a worse September record (.607 winning percentage) than most playoff teams (.612). The average World Series champion had a better regular-season record than other teams in the postseason — so talent seemed to play a part — but playing well down the stretch was meaningless." Link here, though that's the "meat" of it. Also the 2000 Yankees had a losing September, yet won the title.

What a brave man you are! I was too chicken to seek it out and just hoped the Giants would win by now. Thanks for that though, as for a second I made myself think I got it.

Almost 30 years to the day when the Grateful Dead did acoustical sets there. To further go off on a tangent but bringing it back to Steve Wilson, Burning Shed just posted the latest King Crimson anniversary releases (Steve's been co-producing, remixing etc. the remasters.)

Congrats! If we skip "playoffs" (playoffs?) for the worst, the Suckitude Series is the Pirates vs. Mariners. They should do this, charge some goofy price like $3 and sell beer for 50 cents. I'd be a blast. Fuck, I'd go.

I'm wondering if the Twins might be the AL team to make it to the World Series. They've done so much without Monreau (who is making one last attempt to come back from his concussion) and they seem to have a lot of depth which is a good thing to have. Fairly balanced pitching though not outstanding, but there have been past champions who fit that profile. Team WHIP, OBP and SLG are all highly competitive. They haven't faired well vs. the eastern teams though.

I loved the shot of Joe with his father and brother Frank. Those Torre eyebrows.

Is it safe to mention K-e-n B-u-r-n-s in this thread? Just a reminder that the top half of his 10th inning broadcast is tonight. Carrot Top's top isn't as carrot colored anymore, assuming she makes an appearance.

Suggest Some Robert Mitchum

For ages it was unavailable anywhere, until Criterion (God bless them) recently put it out on DVD. Looks like it's not out in the UK region though, in case Cliff doesn't have a multi-region player. Or at least not on Amazon UK - I checked while investigating music over there.
