  1. I still like it! As stated earlier it's still a reasonably "new" album to me. I've only listened to the original mix once (I probably should revisit it) and go with the Steve Wilson mix instead. It's an odd album in a good way. :rsmile:
  2. I do have a DVD-A and was sort of an oddball in that I didn't have a bunch of the early studio albums for a long time, instead getting live releases for the improvs. (Sort of the Grateful Dead fan approach.) I had never heard Lizard until the 40th anniversary release. I was also naughty in the '80s and taped my friend's LPs of Beat & 3 Of A Perfect Pair. That's been a dead format around the house & I think at least one of the tapes broke 20 years ago, so the reissues should sound very fresh to my ears. And while I typically don't watch videos that end up on special reissues like this much either, I have played the video on Red 3 times since I've gotten it (I don't watch it closely, but the music is good enough to go to.) So for me the series has worked out nicely enough.
  3. This is who I still think of with the fist pumps. It's a small picture but in case the racket isn't obvious, it's Jimmy Conners, not John Stockton.
  4. It's just 10% off and it ends soon. I haven't bought any in about a year but will go for the complete Zurich '73 (I'm feeling weak & completist as part of it is on The Great Deceiver) and possibly a the Denver '72 (the more recent concert release, not the very early Summit? studio release.) This need probably comes out of expecting to be buying the next round of 40th Anniversary releases but they've been put off until September.
  5. There's a modest sale at dgm.com on King Crimson Collector's Club discs, and so to start off in a search of disc reviews I lazily typed in its common abbreviation KCCC and hit enter before typing "review" or the band name. I thought perhaps a radio station might kick out or maybe even a paper by confused Soviet history student, but I didn't expect this to be near the top: Kinky-Curly Curling Custard Ooo, imagine the business synergies between these two!
  6. Of all things he was brought up recently on the Dan Patrick Show when SI writer Verducci was a guest. Supposedly Zito decided to devote his energy to being a baseball player, rather than a musician and other things that interest him. Yeah I know, with what he's being paid you'd think he'd have been plenty interested before, but that's the way it was phrased. Though not a Giants fan I hold out hope for this. What can I say, I like soft-throwing lefty pitchers who are a little bit flakey but kind of interesting human beings. He's not Bill Lee (who is?), but I'll take what I can get.
  7. I saw the score and assumed it was Cain. Shame on me, as starting the rotation R-L-R does have the symmetry thing going for it. I wonder if Zito was going through that classic phase when a pitcher loses a little velocity and has to readjust. Could it be he finally figured it all out late last summer? Or is that the Astros just really suck, especially without Berkman? Just another 160 games to go to see what happens.
  8. If it doesn't rain I'll get to see Heyward in STL on the 27th. He's got a long way to go to be the franchise's all-time HR leader, but what a nice start.
  9. I can do one better than that. Or maybe the number is 9. Another Red Sox fan friend of mine emailed me after the 1st inning, "Okay, the Red Sox will win the World Series. Check back with me in November."
  10. Hope you have a great birthday!
  11. That's a marvellous record. I saw one of the concerts they did over here to promote that album. Great fun. Though I think they fell out not long after - recall reading that McCoury was not too fond of some of Earl's language. Or maybe it was his political comments? Or both? I thought it was language, but an interview from Thirsty Ear says otherwise. You were on tour with Del McCoury last year and it came to a bad end. That must have hurt. Steve - Well, I got to play with and make an album [The Mountain] with the greatest bluegrass band working today. But it came to an end over money and billing. So it wasn't over vulgarity in bluegrass? Steve - No, that was bullshit, absolute bullshit. That's what Del said in some interview, that he left because of the language I use onstage. But that's just bullshit. He didn't want to go on the European tour, then I offered him more money and he agreed to. Then he wanted to share my spot on the David Letterman show. So it was money and billing. Have you talked to Del since then? Steve - No, I haven't talked to Del. I talk with Ronnie [McCoury, Del's son and mandolin player]. The May 11, 1999 show of Earle w/ the Del McCoury Band in Malmö, Sweden is spectacular btw. One of my favorite recordings by any band ever.
  12. During the winter I watch all or part of one All-Star Game I have on VHS. The past few years it's one that's 10 years old as it's easier to remember. For a few years Costas & Morgan were teamed up and they did the same blasted thing. An unassisted triple play involving Morganna and exploding pink elephants could be happening on the field and yet Costas would be moaning about oh, how about the '94 strike and Joe is still replaying a phantom tag at 2nd that took place 1/2 an hour ago. Argh. Joe Buck can drone on derailed like that too. Will someone give Vin Scully the book of all possible baseball player names now, have him read it and digitize it all so we can replace these idiots? Okay give the gig to Harry Shearer as Vin has better things to do with his time. I was following the game on the iPod, and the radio was delayed by I dunno, probably 3 minutes or so. The various visual options were always at least 1 batter ahead. It'll be good when they get the kinks worked out, as it's just too hard not to look into the future to see what happens before you can hear what happens. :rsmile: Between that and Grandma Steve Tyler, they may have set the record for worst music in a home opener ever.
  13. Run support can be found at baseball-reference by clicking "more stats" next to the pitcher's name. Run support per game started: Lincecum 4.5 Cain 4.3 Sanchez 3.6 Zito 3.5 The Giants scored 1 more run per 9 innings for Lincecum compared to Zito, and almost that much for Cain. While Lincecum & Cain are both better pitchers, it's easier to win when the team scores one more run for you per start. Look at the game by game summary, Matt. Those statistics you quote are an average of the year long season. They do not reflect the real-time game summary of everyday pitching. How else do we explain the superior W-L record verses Zito's pathetic spew? The batters hate him? Not only do you fail in logic and math, but basic reading comprehension too.

  15. I don't. But Lana is Australian while Laura is from Nashville, so if they are, it's probably not too closely related.
  16. MLB.COM is giving away free samples today and tomorrow of their online broadcasts. The Cards are playing the Twins at their new ballpark Target Field. It's been a long time since I've seen the Twins play outside at home. Not a bad looking ballpark, at first glance at least.
  17. And to tie in the old with the new, for a time she had a program on the listener supported station WFMU. She's very familiar with the Mosaic box sets that feature music from the '20s and '30s. A link to her playlists and archived shows.
  18. Well I wish you well in having a calmer response to the season and won't bother betting against you. But the beauty with a name like Boof is you can react and still keep it PG rated.
  19. Sweet! I love Seeking and have wanted to hear more.
  20. I see in the transactions listings that new-to-Boston Boof Bonser will start on the DL. I have high hopes of him having a role with the staff, just to see what Dan can do with the name when Boof has a poor outing.
  21. Nice touch putting the '58 cherry on top! I'm just part way thru the Hampton, but wow, I'm still scratching my head over why I didn't order it sooner.
  22. Yeah, I'm not convinced that Seattle has it either, as much as I'd like them to win it. The Baseball Analyst site collected the various projection "function machines" (for those of you raised on early '70s math textbooks) and Texas looks pretty decent according to a few of them. But as you say, it won't take much to win the division, so who knows. Kinsler starts the season on the DL which hurts Texas from the get go. All the divisional race projections are included in the link btw, not just the all important AL West.
  23. Yup, I bought the iPod Touch/iPhone version. Vin Scully is still doing the 1st 3 innings of Dodger home games (also when they play the Angels.) It's also fun to flip between the announcers when it's late & close.
  24. I have yet to ever bid on a mini-LP on eBay but while looking it I came across a site about mini lps. Near the top of the page there's a link to screen for trusted eBay sellers of them. And gee, you'll notice their prices are higher than those that aren't trusted. Well, a fake could make your stereo explode...
