Relatedly...Unless things have changed be aware that the cross country cars that Amtrak uses have very few electrical outlets to plug things into. If you're traveling coach the small section of seating downstairs has an outlet near the back. This area is typically reserved for people who may have trouble going up & down the stairs but is available to anyone and as there's no thru traffic (only half the car has seating downstairs) it can be easier to sleep down there as well. If you're upstairs in coach there's typically a plug towards the front of the car roughly halfway between the front & the stairs. The time I took the Empire Builder I had the only outlet for a large part of the car, and thus was very popular with people wanting to recharge things. It's possible there are outlets in the observation car and snack area as well.

chewy non jazz recommendation for today
Quincy replied to chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez's topic in Miscellaneous Music
There was an earlier thread about the early Bee Gees (you can title search "Gees" but not "Bee" ) though all of Clem's contributions (though they were also Monkee & Byrd) were wiped clean. I'm still very happy that I bought the Rhino box of the 1st 3 albums w/ the bonus discs. It helps to hear the hits within the context of the albums, and for me not having heard the album cuts as a kid the music is still newish to me. Good stuff! -
Darn tootin' I remember you! So sorry to hear about your difficult year, but you're typing mighty fine with your right hand. Wishing you the best as you progress!

I was intrigued from the get go when I read this was going to be in memorandum by using electronics. For the past 9 years I've been going through watching my Mom deteriorate from Alzheimer's, and about 5 years ago I realized that the person I used to enjoy talking to had died and there wasn't any funeral. Something that helped during this process was Robert Fripp's A Blessing Of Tears and The Gates Of Paradise. Both were dedicated to his mother, in fact the former includes his eulogy. The music is about both grief and the latter a representation of the soul in the afterlife. While I'm not religious nor has my mother physically died, the recordings (especially Gates Of Paradise) have been incredibly powerful & cathartic in dealing with it all. So that was a long way of saying I've found electronic music to be highly expressive to handle such deep emotions. Luckily posts above ensure that people understand this isn't some funeral dirge or a bunch of heavenly swashes, far from it. "Random memories from childhood" are definitely in the mix which allow the listener to imagine what went on in your household growing up. Oddball. I hope perhaps on my 3rd time around I'll get to listen to it without interruption, but it succeeds in drawing me right back in. I congratulate you and thank you for expanding your musical boundaries as I love what you've done here. As suggested above I look forward to putting on the headphones as there is such attention to detail. Well done!

Actress Brittany Murphy has died...
Quincy replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Well, having had to witness someone deal with anorexia a key element is about control. The rest of the world may be an uncontrollable mess to the person, but calories and weight are within complete control of the person who has this horrible mental illness. My flip thought was you want control, buy a f*cking ant farm (or get one of the endless "sim" computer games) and eat a cheeseburger now! (a double, with fries and a large shake), but unfortunately it's not that simple. It's very difficult to understand, even after reading about it in depth. -

I do a little of this too and it's true, it's usually a surprise for both of us (well, for me until the 22nd or 23rd when I wrap the items.) But the trick is to remember where you hide the things. A couple of times what was supposed to be an Xmas gift became a surprise gift for Nixon or Presley's birthday. -
I pre-ordered both together and they arrived speedily enough. There's a skip during "Truckin'" on the bonus disc (at least on my copy, don't know about others) but I didn't bother them about it. (It's only a '79 "Truckin'" and I have several hundred better versions of the song to choose from.) Despite the skip it's not a bad bonus disc as essentially it's the better part of the show in order with 1st set filler & Drumz tossed out. The perfect Dead show for the busy busy 21st century! I love the way Let It Rock begins but there are moments where Nicky is just a little too "tinkly" for my liking. "Sitting In Limbo" is almost like hearing Liberace. Years ago when I traded for the NYE '75 show with Nicky it was a favorite, but now I realize maybe it was because Bob shows up with other "friends," along with perhaps the New Year's Eve atmosphere adding some color. I'll have to break it out sometime as it's been many years since I've played it and see how I feel about it now.

Yeah, she really made an impression on me with her appearance on Letterman, possibly more than one. After seeing her in Sin City I had hoped for more roles for her, as she seemed like a genuinely good & funny person. R.I.P. -
how can I shrink a picture to less the 100kb

Web Resizer Upload your picture, download the smaller version. Has some simple cropping capabilities too. I use it often use it over Photoshop Elements as it's faster. -

Nothing new to suggest, but it's hard to go wrong with doing the day spa again. You can always change or upgrade the package from the time before if you're concerned about repeating yourself. Think of it as how you keep going back to Mosaic and yet are happy you did. I think the spa works the same way. -
Agreed! I don't have 5.1 but love the hi-res stereo sound. Love love love it! Lizard is a pretty dandy package too with both the old mix and new remix available. Still haven't played the old one yet. These releases have been so great I'm likely going to buy the releases I'm less warm & fuzzy about, such as In The Wake Of Poseidon. I can hardly wait for the next batch!

Some GD for sale incl DIck's Picks
Quincy replied to AmirBagachelles's topic in Offering and Looking For...
This one might sneak by some folks as '76 is a transitional year, but at this price it's worth it just for the "Orange Tango Jam" on disc 4. One of things Jerry made up and never played again. -

It's not your HO, it's scientific fact! The way that first disc begins...(sigh). -
I'm hesitant to judge the trading of prospects, as sometimes the "throw in" really comes back to bite you in the ass. The extreme case being the Cubs-Phils trade for Bowa, where the Phils threw in some Rhyno kid...

I don't think so. Not because he was Mr. Mellow, but he was cremated and some ashes were dumped in the Ganges, some more in SF Bay. Leave the spinning to the granola girls. -
They were the original punks. Probably more than half of the lyrics were written by Robert Hunter (who has his own singing problems), so blame him!

annmt = Ann of Montana, not to be confused with Hannah Montana. Yes, I am hip to this Tweeter jive!

Hey, I'd be just as thrilled to have Happ on the M's. The Phils have some terrific lefties, so here's hoping we get one of them.

A whole new style for a stylin' guy. Happy Birthday!

Hope Johnny , Quincy, and all the other Mariners fans here have taken their heart meds! They are the team to beat, it looks like! Can't believe how much the Angels have screwed up this off season. Losing Figgins, now Lackey. What is their thinking, if they have any thinking???? I still haven't wrapped my head around it. It's one thing to improve the M's, but the way the Angels keep shedding players in the process...whew-ee. However I'm paranoid enough about how well the Angels are run that I feel like I need to sit down and look over who they have left, who could be coming up from the minors and who they could yet sign or trade for. I'm very happy though to get Lee, as I was Figgins.

Unfortunately the majority of Columbias were dropped a year ago, though awhile back I think a lone Johnny Cash and maybe a Willie Nelson returned. If it's just about price and not fulfilling your queue obligations you might want to look at deepdiscount. Shipping is free too. Santana (bonus tracks) - 7.97 Abraxas (Legacy remaster, bonus tracks) - 6.74 Santana 3 (Legacy w/ bonus tracks) - 7.97 Caravanserai (Legacy remaster) - 7.18 Love, Devotion, Surrender (Legacy) - 5.00 Remember that the 1st album is also available in a 2 disc Woodstock version if interests you at all. There's a thread about Woodstock editions if you care to read about how one live track was reconstructed, in case you're very sensitive to authenticity in live recordings. Also note that the movie version of "Soul Sacrifice" is different than the reality (I like the movie edit more, although it's been about 10 years since I heard it, and I doubt I've ever heard it sober.)

I'm not enthused about this deal at all. I thought Coke was it, and Jackson never got a chance to show what he can do on the major league level. Grandrson is not very impressive as a player: Year Age Tm Lg G PA AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB CS BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS OPS+ TB GDP HBP SH SF IBB Pos Awards 2009 28 DET AL 160 710 631 91 157 23 8 30 71 20 6 72 141 .249 .327 .453 .780 100 286 1 2 3 2 4 *8 AS For a guy with some pop his slugging % is not all that good, his OBP is lousy. I guess we can hope he gets better... Why are you just looking at last year's stats? His OBP was just dandy in 2007 & 2008. In 2007 he was one of 4 players in baseball history who had over 20 doubles, triples, homers & stolen bases in a season. He was also 10th in MVP balloting that year. Last year he was killed by LHP and it is a weakness in his game, but with Jeter, Teix, ARod this isn't much of a problem for the Yankees. It's also been noted that thanks to trades there aren't very many lefty pitchers in the division that he'll have to face (pretty much just Lester.) He's a big bump in all around play at CF for you and he's a good person too. As I've pretty much plagiarized Posnaski's take, I'll rip off one more thought that he's been hurt by Comerica and now he's playing half his games at Yankee Stadium. I think given what was available for CF you done good.
