  1. Yes!, I second this recommendation given your "folkish" leanings as it's an acoustic set. Excellent sound and vocally Jerry & Bob sound really good (which wasn't always a strong suit.) WorldB3's recommendation of Dick's Pick 8 is also excellent given your preferences, but I just wanted to emphasize Reckoning as it sometimes is overlooked as it was recorded in 1980, and someone who likes the sound of (roughly) 1970 might not think to go there.
  2. Though normally I'm against the death penalty, I say kill the family. These reality people need to be taught a lesson and put in their place.
  3. Nah, that wasn't the intent at all. My ears always perk up and my tail wags when I see good-hitting pitcher stats and I hadn't heard that of Cliff so I looked it up. He's no Rick Rhoden. The only purpose of correction was so Ghost, yourself and other Yankee fans don't get an ulcer in case there is a Yankee-Phillie World Series and Cliff comes to the plate, that's all.
  4. I picked this up from a website called ISporticus: Because we live in a city where the equilibrium of the collective sports mentality is as stable as Stephon Marbury, people are panicking about the Phils’ recent slump. Sure, they are coming off a 4-game sweep at the hands of the lowly Astros. And with the notable exception of Ryan Howard, the team is in a huge offensive slump (Cliff Lee has the best batting average on the team, .316, followed by Shane Victorino’s .295). The blogger made a boo boo. It looks like he got Cliff Lee's stats mixed up with the Astros Carlos Lee, but he's still 10 points off. Oh well, not sure what happened, but unless there's a fluke happening I think you take a breather when Cliff comes to the plate.
  5. Ok, how 'bout a Neil Young thread? A little Homegrown anyone? There's one of those too, though it's relatively small. Hmm, rather than the link I tried to provide my clipboard held onto a pumpkin orzo recipe instead, so you can search on your own. If you search by thread title you'll find most old rockers, and even some more modern ones have threads or "corners" on the board. There are Neil threads about the recent Archive project too and a few of his individual albums.
  6. I'd be dreading his times at bat. Lee is currently hitting .316, the highest batting average on the entire Philadelphia team. Up over and out. I think you ran into a typo somewhere. With the Phillies he hit .212 during the regular season (7 for 33) and is 1 for 5 in the playoffs. He does have a playoff stolen base which is likely a small club for pitchers. Lifetime he's a .138 hitter.
  7. I've passed on it due to competing box set(s) madness (Beatles, Bear Family & Mosaic), but a friend of mine who has collected hundreds of shows and already had this run raves about the sound quality. He considers it a significant upgrade even though the previously circulating shows sounded very nice. I don't know if he's had any problems with disc 6.
  8. Yup, and thanks to all for the Amazon UK heads up and feedback. Haven't gotten my shipping notice yet but it'll come. The 2 Columbia/Legacy discs that I have will go to my niece who has expressed interest in Billie.
  9. Sounds like you have a future drummer who sings on your hands. Hearty congrats!
  10. Lidge's regular season was a brilliant disguise. Fool the whole league into thinking he'd lost it, then come the playoffs and he gets the job done. Brilliant!
  11. Yup, if you check out Baseball Reference and look at the "good ole days" of say 1969-70 you can see that despite LCS sweeps they waited 5 days start the World Series on a Saturday. Ah...back when baseball wasn't afraid of college football. I'm feeling nostalgic for 1978 as it's the 2nd year of Phils-Dodgers, and like then the Yanks are facing a consistently good West team. Plenty of differences otherwise, but the laundry is the similar.

Have you ever heard the early acoustic sessions of Blood on the Tracks bootleg titled - Blood on the Tapes? Well worth searching out. I actually prefer it to the official version. A couple of these made it on the Biograph box set. No, I didn't even know such sessions existed. Thanks for pointing these out. Given the responses here, I'll probably first pick up the SACD and then look for these later on. These songs certainly merit it. Aside from Biograph there are 3 cuts on The Bootleg Series Vol. 1-3. The Bootleg Series 1-3 (it comes in one box) is highly worthwhile for what else it includes too. If you're into searching out unofficial releases thru downloads and such look for Blood On The Tapes or something that mentions the New York sessions. Such a collection ends up having 4 (I think) songs that are now official, along with the ones that haven't been officially released.
  13. They're a wealthy team, or at least before Oct. 2008. They set the record (I'm guessing) for most money spent per loss just the year before. True the big 2 from the AL East spend more, but unless something drastic has happened I think they could resign him. It's just whether the bright lights of a bigger city appeal to him.
  14. In 2008, the Angels were 8-1 against Boston. How did that turn out in the Division Series? In 2007, the Yankees were 6-0 against the Indians. How did that turn out in the Division Series? In 2006, the Yankees were 5-2 against the Tigers. How did that turn out in the Division Series? Yup, cliche warning but you can throw out the regular season. The dramatic one I can't forget is the '88 Mets beat the Dodgers (okay, I can forget specifics) something like 10-1 in the regular season. I'm visiting my folks in Cardinal (and Cub) country and tonight I was with a friend at a bar with the Dodger-Cardinal game on. Whew, Noj, your team just ripped the heart out of the place. Living in Oregon which has some M's and some Giants and a smattering of A's fans I hadn't witnessed a playoff game with a hardcore fanbase in a while. Uh oh, here comes some bombs from Dan, HR Tori Hunter.
  15. I hated the Beltre signing and thought it would likely go down as one of the worst of all-time. I've come around a little at least to the degree that I think he's played through a lot of pain and that's not easy. So dagnabbit, that's the dreaded overused "gamer" tag and I've bought it a little. I never expected that to happen. That said I'd let him go, but I don't feel any hatred towards him like some people do. With Jr. it's pure emotion. A part of me would like to believe he could hit closer to .260 with just a touch more pop and maybe 100 less AB for just one more season. And all without hurting the future of the team! Yeah yeah, I know, it's silly. It sounds like he doesn't want to give it up, and he was such a good teammate this past season. If he does retire without all of that nonsense more power to him! So many of those players who have the blasted roadshow salute then unretire anyway. I enjoyed seeing Sweeney play as I saw him dominate in short-season Class A games. He'd probably be more useful as a PH for a contender, but there's a lot of competition for guys with doubles power who can't run to second anymore. (Actually he's not that bad.) Maybe he'll finally sign with a club that wasn't in the old AL West.
  16. Thanks for the review. The LA Nuggets box is on my hunting list but I've only read about Thee Midniters. Sounds interesting.
  17. Hear hear! Greinke has been in the neighborhood of "Pedro in his prime." I suppose I have some hope that the writers are less concerned about Cy Young coming from a playoff team. I mean can you imagine the stupidity if they applied that sort of argument for Carlton in '72? But when it comes to the voters one should expect the worst. I saw that the pride of Oregon State started the day at 69. Nicely done!
  18. Yay! More fodder for the SI cover jinx too. I hope this puts Mauer over the top for MVP, since there are some voters who insist that a team make the playoffs for a player to be considered.
  19. I'm not an Oregon native (there aren't many.) I grew up on the borderline of Cub-Cardinal country for the first 23 years of my life. Even when the Cubs sucked (which was often) those games sold out year in & year out.
  20. I only saw some of it but out here the Fox Saturday game was Royals-Twins. Yeah of course, it makes sense as it has playoff ramifications, but I can't recall the last time I saw the Royals on a Saturday afternoon. I'm thinking maybe 1985... As an added bonus Greinke was on the hill too. If the Twins don't make the playoffs it was the last time I will have seen the Heftydome. It's not over yet though!
  21. I like George, but I don't think so. I love All Things Must Pass, but after that I rarely touch the 3 other (studio) solo albums after that that I've owned for 25+ years (which thankfully were all gotten cheaply). If you already own All Things Must Pass I think you could iTune the few other songs you think you want, or maybe find some greatest hits package used. I just always found the stuff after All Things & Concert For Bangladesh to horribly inconsistent and lightweight.
  22. Sheeesh, 26 Ks in 15 2/3rd is nasty.
  23. Teddy Fucking Ballgame is going to be furious when they sew his head back onto a headless body and bring him back to life!
  24. A case can be made for the first great rivalry being the Cubs vs. Giants. At least in the deadball years it was intense. That one didn't last though. I get the impression that the current Giant-Dodger rivalry is kind of like the White Sox-Cubs. White Sox fans hate the Cubs, Giants fans hate the Dodgers. Meanwhile Cubs fans barely know White Sox fans exist and it seems like current Dodger fans look upon the Giants with bemused indifference. It wasn't always that way for the Dodger fans, but it sure seems that way today.
  25. I don't watch the show like I used to but I thought there was an interesting vibe with a woman who used to bring the envelopes down for "name the cut of beef" and other such audience related stuff. That may have 5 years ago or so, I really don't remember anymore. I liked how he said it could be embarrassing to the women. Now I can see why he resisted marriage for so long. (Really, I can. Coming up on 20 years of living in sin though without much sin apparently.)
