  1. I disagree about this one. Not that it'll be easy mind you. Also keep in mind Pete didn't set the record in the way you describe. He had 10 200+ hit seasons. My guess is it'll be a guy who starts young, plays into his 40s and might be from Latin America (the stereotype of "you don't walk" to beat Pete's record.) The hardest to beat, unless some freakishly great knuckleballer gets a start in his teens and pitches into his '50s. In other words, not likely. And not to knock a strong work ethic, but hopefully no one will be allowed that chance again. It's a dumb selfish record. I think Rickey Henderson's stolen base record looks safe for now. (Edit - Season or career, though I'm mainly thinking career here.) Joltin' Joe's hit streak has held up well and is another difficult one to break, but it could go at any time. Or not.
  2. Ugh, another 1 run loss for the M's vs. the Rangers. Big Al, you're killing me! And darn the luck, the Angels finally win and move up 3 1/2. What a season for divisional races! All are worth watching, why even the AL East is becoming semi-interesting. For the Apple users who like widgets, there's one that gives both scores & standings that I like a lot: Baseball widget
  3. Hints - Pitcher #1 primarily threw in the NL and is nicknamed after a marine mammal. Pitcher #2 was at his best in the AL and his name rhymes with a fruit or vegetable. Hint 2 - it is not "orange."
  4. Happy Birthday, hope it's a great one!
  5. I'm right-handed but when using a PC I use the mouse with my left hand so I can use the numpad with the right. I once inverted the clickers but it threw me off, as it was easier just to right-click with the index, left-click with the middle. I think they've added a more button mouse to their recent desktops. I don't keep up with Mac mouses, being a happy happy iBook & now MacBook owner. I've gotten so used to trackpads, which I wouldn't believed would have happened 10 years ago.
  6. It looks like it counts null votes, which is how I voted (since I don't own the set.)
  7. I thought of that, but the ratings were so dang low for the playoffs, who'd know?
  8. And I can't wait to see a listing of playoff games whoever it was was assigned to. Heh heh heh, in this youtube age we live in, this could be fun.
  9. Aside from liming the soil I also add a bit of epson salt when planting as it helps get rid of blossom end rot. And stay away from Miracle Grow.
  10. This is great news! Just a couple of years ago I discovered your father's album on Nocturne with Bob Enevoldsen & also the Steve White session and Herbie Harper that he's on. It's exciting to hear that a documentary is in the works (and more releases too.)
  11. I hear ya Dan, but he is possibly one of the most fit & flexible players to ever play. There's a good chance that unlike Damon he'll still be able to play CF when he's in his late 30s and play it well. Andruw Jones poor play has probably helped his asking price too, though obviously the marketing factors in too. You've probably heard the talk that "if he wanted to" he could hit 20 homers and "only" hit .300 but he chooses not to. I tend to view that sort of talk with a bit skepticism (though 2005 saw more triples & homers with a lower average), but it will be fascinating to see if he is asked or able to do that in a few more years, assuming his speed declines. His steal percentage has been mind-blowing lately. I'm thrilled it looks like he's staying, as though not perfect he's such an interesting player.
  12. Thank goodness they have a salary cap in the NBA.
  13. I bought a DCM-380 changer to replace a Sony-ES changer that had lasted about a dozen years. I was looking for a player that had the HDCD decoder as I have many Grateful Dead "Dick's Picks" and also like the convenience of a changer. While the Denon has been running for about 4 years now I'm not sure I would have bought it if I could do it all over again. Although it hasn't done so in many months, there were times where it would "spaz out" which require turning it off and waiting 30 seconds to stop the misbehaving. Examples include flipping between tray 1 & 2 repeatedly or not reading a disc in a tray. The tray construction is much flimsier than my old Sony, though I suppose that may be the difference between mid-line build in the 1990s and 21st century. I now often find myself using a Cambridge Audio single tray player that I bought for hi-res formats for playing regular cds, at least if I'm not playing a 2 disc set, just to avoid the occasional weirdness of the Denon player. So what you have here is a long-winded wishy washy semi-recommendation with a touch of purchase regret. *Forgot to add that the shallow trays (compared to the old Sony) mean you had better be absolutely certain the disc is fully in its space, as I once had a disc crack as it became dislodged when the tray closed. Another time somehow or other a disc fell into a "nether region" that required me taking the unit into the shop. The repair was done for free, mainly because the tech guy had never seen a disc become "so lost in the machine" before.
  14. Maximize your utility, or something!
  15. Hard to say, as a great deal depends how much the machine was used. Some reviews at audioreview from people who bought used paid both more & less than the price you quote, however the reviews are from 3 to 8 years ago. audioreview link
  16. Are there any plans for when you roll over the odometer? A wake or big party? Is Selig following the team to be there in person? It's kind of like Biggio possibly breaking the HBP record. How exactly does one "celebrate" it? Oh well, I'm sure you'll find a way. Um, good luck! Er...
  17. I betcha Clem is on his way to get in line to see Slint! I caught a Cat Power show with her new band and at least that night she upped the tempo on so many songs. For instance now her "Satisfaction" cover is played at the same speed, maybe even a tad faster than the Stones version.
  18. "No actual camping involved." So pleased to hear things are looking splendid!
  19. Just think if they could have dropped 10k on the 4th of July. Would have ranked up there with Tim McCarver's "grand slam" double on the bicentennial. Huh???? I am far to young to remember Tim McCarver as Steve Carlton's personal catcher, and playing with the Phillies....but, anyway, I still don't know what you are talking about! Actually it was a "grand slam" single. It was a game winning HR but he passed Gary Maddux on the basepath (Phils still won as McCarver's run wasn't needed for victory.) When asked how he could have let that happen he said "sheer speed."

  21. Long distance information give me Memphis Tennessee... I was surprised to see that crazy Stephen Jackson was "only" making 6 mill & change. He'll need every penny!
  22. It's what it takes. A few other SF types, some better matches than others: Dunleavy - 8.2 Turkoglu - 6.4 Hapring - 6.0 Brian Cardenal - 5.8 Battier - 5.8 Lakers who are being paid more: Kobe - 19.5 Odom - 13.5 Kwame - 9.1 Radmanovic - 5.6 I think the salaries of the 2 in front of him are far more outrageous than what Luke will be pulling down, though Kwame got his for being the top pick (along with being very tall.) More NBA salary info here.
  23. I thought this was b&w footage of Monty Python's "march around the square" routine.
  24. Thanks Claude! I put in an order of a dozen discs when organissimo was down, so SA-CD.net got my support (and it was very easy as I was using my wish list.) The Fischer/Kreizberg Russian Violin Concertos really is terrific as advertised! I'm making an effort to go outside of the bounds of the Living Stereo series (in other words, spending more money as those are too hard to resist because of performance & price!), so I especially appreciate the recommendations outside of that series.
  25. As someone who recently acquired an SACD/DVD-A machine who has also been recently listening to a lot more classical music, if anyone, especially a certain somebody who also posts to SA-CD.net cares to share an opinion concerning classical releases...though all are welcome to do so! I've gone from 4 SACD hybrids to 35 in a couple of weeks, but would love to hear about some favorite classical releases that combine the magic of great performance & recording on SACD. And not just the wonderful Living Stereo series (which has replaced RVG in my heart) but modern recommendations welcome too.
