    Grant Green

I'll let Grant slide on the Bobby Hutcherson thing, the sound of his vibes on that record are a little out of the norm from his usual "Blue Note sound". He nailed Elvin of course, whose performance on that particular recording is as good as anything he ever did.
  3. Lou most definitely WAS into the music he was playing in this era. What he did was no different that what Art Blakey or Miles did their entire career...when things start to get stale...hire a bunch of young fiery cats for inspiration and ride the groove...
  4. In most cases I completely agree with you, but this record seems to be the exception to the rule. Mose sounds very inspired by the company and plays some great solos. It's half instrumental/half vocal and the originals are well written and arranged.
  5. Holy F*cking Sh*t! I bet that was a trip.
  6. Mose Allison - Piano, Vocals Jimmy Knepper - Trombone Jimmy Reider - Tenor Sax Addison Farmer - Bass Frankie Dunlop - Drums In a departure from the normal trio format we get this swingin' little trombone/tenor sax front line that has a really distinct little groove happening. Knepper is especially noteworthy and really digs into these tunes, particularly the instrumentals. There are some definitive vocals tracks on this one as well. Stop This World and If You're Goin' To The City never sounded better than on this recording. Then there's the HIP take on Ellington's I Ain't Go Nothing But The Blues which was the first Mose Allison track I ever heard and I've been a fan ever since. Anybody else dig this one?
  7. I don't own a digital camera...in fact I don't even own a camera. My last one broke in 1986 and was never replaced.
  8. If I win the lottery, I'm buying one of these....
  9. Beetles have a really bad reputation for rolling over in a hard sidewind. MG Driving on the interstate in a Bug is NO FUN whatsoever. Everytime a big rig passes you, the wind gust blows you halfway into the next lane. Not to mention the car vapor locking in the summertime because the air that's supposed to "cool" the motor is being sucked off the interstate and is about 120 degrees. What's funny is that my Mother owned a Corvair before I was born and she said it was the biggest piece of shit that she ever drove...she traded it in and bought a Mustang instead!
  10. Just pulled out the Buck Clayton Mosaic set to refresh my memory. Nice swinging arrangement plus Julian Dash on tenor sax. I think I'll listen to the rest of the disc.
  11. 1973 Beetle (the picture is a super beetle, mine was standard). I believe I bought it for $1200, then spent about $2000 in parts & labor to fix the thing every other week for 2 years. I ended up selling it for less than $1000 to a burnout in a Judas Priest t-shirt.
  12. Sharon Tate is one of the main characters...which for some reason is really creepy all by itself.
  13. That's actually a pretty groovy little horror film. It's been a long time since I've seen it, but I remember it being atmospheric and creepy.
  14. I think you shared your opinion of Hot Dog to the nth degree in the other thread, might want to give it a rest.
  15. Great tune! A couple really nice versions on here (master & alternate take).
  16. Natalie Portman Gangsta Rap I love this one....
  17. Why is it necessary to save up to declare bankruptcy?
  18. My schedule is screwed, I work different hours almost everyday. Sometimes I get up at 5:00am to go in, sometimes I go in at 2pm and work till midnight. So I'm always having to adjust my sleep time. My body "wants" me to wake up about 6:00am...but my body also DEMANDS an afternoon nap when I get up that early.
  19. My first garage band (it was literally a garage) was called "Bad Trip....cause that's what we sounded like....
  20. I watched Favre's press conference today and I almost teared up! Favre is as REAL as they come, just a great person as well as a hall of fame player. It's one of those "Good Ole Boy Makes Good" stories that would make a great movie script but pales in comparison to what it was like to actually watch this guy for the past 16 years. One of the true greats.
  21. Well, we all know what opinions are like.... ...and the last time I checked it's the same place POOP comes from.
  22. I'm in total agreement with Soul Stream on the importance of these albums, they have been favorites of mine since the first time I heard Alligator Bogaloo. I would probably rank them in a slightly different order, but they are all worthwhile. The one I like the least is actually Midnight Creeper, which for some reason just doesn't sound like it gels quite the way the others do. Discographical question: Does someone have the actual session info for Everything I Play Is Funky/Pretty Things? If I remember correctly it's two different sessions split across the two albums?
  23. I'll have what he's having....
  24. Stanley Turrentine - anything Blue Mitchell - anything Lou Donaldson - anything Gerry Mulligan/Paul Desmond Quartet Mose Allison - anything Nat King Cole Trio Jimi Hendrix
