  1. I love this song!! Phil Lynott & Mark Knopler - Kings Call
  2. It's not the length of the song, it's the number of tracks on the album (usually). Most jazz albums seem to fall into the 5 track range, they can't sell them as .99 cent tracks because then you could get the whole album for under $5. So they randomly pick tracks (usually the long ones) so that you'll have to pay the full album price if you want it. Albums like Karma & Black Unity fall into this as well, 1 or 2 tracks only on the album, no way they'll sell the songs to you for .99 cents.
  3. As much as I hate the idea of buying from Lonehill, the chances of all this stuff being reissued legally here in the states is probably about as likely as George Carlin being elected president.
  4. I did a google image search for my name and found 2 things. The first is that there's a designer named Shawn Dudley (who knew?) and the second was a link to a Dexter Gordon review I did quite a few years ago. Dexter Gordon

  7. That's awesome!
  8. Becuase you've been possessed by the spirit of Howard Rumsey? Probably has more to do with me seeing The Fog when I was a kid and falling in love with Adrienne Barbeau's character who ran a jazz radio station from a lighthouse.
  9. I've always wanted to live in a lighthouse. I have no idea why....
  10. Drunken driving on a lawn mower...hmmm...boy, I'm sure he could do ALOT of damage to someone at a top speed of probably 3 miles per hour....they should have given him the wine and a pat on the back for his ingenuity.
  11. The market for Blue Note material prior to around 1957 is even smaller.
  12. Didn't Hank sketch out the charts whilst he was in jail? For Duke P. to then orchestrate. That's the story in the liner notes, Hank wanted Pearson to write the charts because he could do them in a day. I believe that's probably correct although there seems to be some of Pearson's stamp on these tunes, especially Lull In My Life.
  13. Great songs, tasty Pearson charts and Mobley is fucking BRILLIANT throughout. There's A Lull In My Life just kills me everytime I hear it.
  14. This is one of those "don't take on face value bands". Yes, they play metal, but this is not your garden variety stuff. This is technically brilliant music that still retains it's balls. These cats have listened to their share of progressive rock over the years, you can hear everything from Yes or King Crimson influences to Iron Maiden & VoiVod re imaginings. 30 second samples won't do this justice but it's worth investigating for prog fans that don't mind a little aggression mixed in....
  15. For those ages 10-14 right now I would say the format is already dead. People my age (late 30's) who saw the progression from vinyl to cassette to CD will probably still prefer to have something "physical" to hold onto. I do like having a computer fully stocked with music but I still feel like there's something missing...IMO.
  16. Most definitely! I really didn't have any major complaints other than the constant banter from the guy holding the camera started to irritate me.
  17. I only watch the NFL. I don't really have a "favorite" team, though I tend to root for the Seahawks. The only team I HATE is the Redskins...growing up in the WV/VA area I've had to deal with WAY too many Redneck Redskins fans in my life.
  18. Shawn

    Nat Adderley

To me he has always been an acquired taste, sometimes his playing makes me want to jump up and shout HALLELUJAH...other times he can sound a little out of his depth. I prefer his playing in the 60's (starting around the time of the Sextet albums with Lateef) and think he really hit his groove about mid-decade.
  19. As I mentioned in another thread, this album is one of my favorite of Cannonball's primarily because of Arriving Soon. It's a great composition to be sure (another great version on the Cleanhead & Cannonball album)...but this reading of it here borders on magical. This song seems to consistently remain on my mp3 player.
  20. I'm a fan of whichever team plays best (I know, people hate that). So I can't help sitting in awe of what NE has been able to acheive this season and I hope they are able to win the 19th as well. I also tip my hat to Eli & Tom Coughlin...two guys that have taken more crap over the past few years (sometimes deservedly I admit)...but who seem to have found the right combination this year. Should be a good game.
  21. One of my favorites from childhood as well.
  22. Went and saw this tonight. It's good, not great. Basically just take The Blair Witch Project and transpose it to a Godzilla movie. Quite well made but I was hoping for something a little more breathtaking.
  23. I remember reading that CDRs could go bad if you played them 24 hours a day for about 3 years...since I doubt any of us listen to a single CD 24 hours a day then there's not much to worry about. I bought my first CD burner in 1998, I just listened to one of the first discs I ever burned...sounds just like it did 9 years ago.
  24. Sounded pretty damn good to me, she had major chops. Thanks for sharing!
