  1. Movin' Along features James Clay on flute if I remember correctly...

    32 Jazz

They reissued some great stuff...with some of the worst artwork & jewel boxes in the history of CDs. (I do like that Patterson cover though)
  3. Of course in my mind there's also those addicts out there running around who cannot function without their daily dose of doctor prescribed and perfectly legal items like Prozac, Zoloft, Valium, Vicodin, etc. We are the great "medicated" society, cannot watch TV for 2 hours without seeing at least 4 ads for prescription drugs, stuff to either keep your pecker sharp or calm down those damn "restless legs".
  4. Well, now I've seen, heard and READ everything! And after THAT little listening experience, I feel like I've also seen, heard, and read everything as well! I totally understand what you're talking about in regards to the relaxing/meditative aspects of Ascension. You should definitely check out Marion Brown's ESP albums, that's some beautiful music...Pharoah's Impulse albums, particularly Deaf, Dumb, Blind are also transcendent. The jump from hard bop to these really isn't that far either, none of these albums are really "out", just exploratory and fucking REAL.
  5. Man I'm tired of being "babysitted" by the government, can't they spend their time doing something useful...like working on the homeless issue or something? They ban smoking...but cars are still legal and the emissions from car exhaust is far more harmful than cigarette smoke. Doesn't make a bit of sense. "We're going to drink, we're going to drive...and we're going to fucking get away with it. Why? Because it's the only way to get our fucking cars back to the house!" - Sam Kinison
  6. If the machines were purchased from a company with the Windows XP license, you should be able to get replacement install discs, either from them or directly from Microsoft if you can find the Serial number for XP.
  7. When you combine those bonus tracks from Memphis & Accent onto a single disc, prepare to normalize them. I combined those once and those 2 CDs were mastered at very different levels.
  8. Search online, I know there are programs for this very purpose. I've never needed to use one so I'm not personally familiar with any. Or you can always take the complicated but in many ways beneficial method of wiping the hard drive and doing a fresh install.
  9. No, they used special "Diagonal Noise Reduction" to preserve the proper sax alignment.
  10. Happy Birthday!
  11. I've always wanted to play one of these (this opaque version is sweet looking). Steve Morse signature model.
  12. Happy "belated" Birthday!
  13. I'm scanning through this now, it's definitely Lateef on ALL tracks. I sampled a few trumpet solos and see no reason to disagree with the published discography. I'm not overly familiar with Harden but Lee is pretty hard to miss, listen to all those little slurred licks in Judyful for example.
  14. I can't decide whether to say "Rest In Peace" or "Good Riddance". At least they won't have to pry the gun from his "cold dead hands".
  15. ...and both times I've played it I couldn't find the cord plug on the edge without flipping the guitar over and looking for it.
  16. Look Out is another album I consider a classic. One of the reasons I love Soul Station so much is because it's a quartet date. 3 of my favorite Mobley albums are his debut, Soul Station & Another Workout. In fact I wish he had recorded many more albums as the only horn player. Of course the albums he recorded with more horns tend to be a little more intense...but Hank had such a magnificent tone that it's nice to just be able to focus on him.
  17. As for me, I'll take SS any day of the week over the other two. (But then, I prefer A Swingin' Affair over Go, too) I would rate it about dead even with Blue & Sentimental (which I consider a classic)...Go wouldn't be my choice for Dexter, for that I think I'd go with Dexter Calling.
  18. Which three songs? Y'know, try as I might, this is the one Mobley album I've never been able to get into. The first 3 tracks on Straight No Filter were recorded with the same band (minus Fuller) the following June. Since the session only yielded those 3 songs I think they fit nicely with Caddy.
  19. It is on Collectables but it has all the personnel information, original liner notes, etc. For those interested, Patton only plays on 3 tracks (Oh Gee, Twist City & Renee), the other tracks are Hank Jones either on piano or organ.
  20. I'm a big fan of A Caddy For Daddy. That's one seriously tight record. The Morning After is one of my favorite Mobley compositions and Shorter's Venus Di Mildew is given a great read. I still think this should be remastered and include the 3 songs from Straight No Filter (with essentially the same band) as bonus tracks. Great cover too...
  21. The Vick, Johnny Griffin & Oliphant discs would be my primary choices. But then again it's Patton...so you HAVE to own everything.
  22. No ruckus at all, just good friendly guitar geek debate! That is a pretty guitar....
  23. Bill Connors? How did I miss this cat up until now?
  24. I wonder what this little puppy sounds like?
  25. Since I've never heard my guitar with the original Gibson pickups (which I have, but the guitar would need to be rewired to install) I'm not even sure what the active pickups even really accomplish, having nothing to compare them to. The only time I notice them is when the battery needs to be changed.
