  2. I'll bite. Not a huge fan, but I enjoy listening to them from time to time...and I've had some friends that were major fanatics. You have to give them their due in inspiring bands like Iron Maiden, etc. You can't really go wrong with the debut album, Demons & Wizards, The Magician's Birthday, Look At Yourself, etc. My fave tracks are Gypsy and Stealin' (which someone should cover, great tune).
  3. As soon as they develop the "Wii Bong Hit"...I'll be the first in line to buy the system.
  4. Nice topic idea, I'm sure I'll come up with some other suggestions...but in the interim I think this one qualifies. Stretches a good bit (especially on the opening track) and also features Andy Bey on a couple tracks.
  5. Maybe they could start a "haven't been reissued 20 times already series". ...oops, no money in that. Have to put out at least 3 remasters of Cookin', Workin', Steamin' & Relaxin' every year to stay afloat.
  6. I could see where some might find his comments a little sharp...but honestly, he sounds like a guy that's been around the block, thousands of times more than most of us have. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
  7. Congrats! ...and I'm glad I'm not.
  8. I didn't oversleep...I work nights. So I'm usually here with the people from across the pond. Good company too!
  9. Crap, extra material. Like I haven't bought this album ENOUGH already. Just got the SACD about a year ago.
  10. Too hard to choose just "2" favorites...but I suppose if forced at gunpoint I'd take "The Tokyo Blues" and "The Cape Verdean Blues".
  11. took a break from jazz long enough to fill a hole in my "Sabbath-inspired, stoner rock" collection... So shoot me!
  12. Nothing wrong with the ending of Gun Crazy! Agreed!!! However, there is that strange scene where he asks Peggy Cummins why she has to kill people, "...Why can't you let them live?" Several commentaters have maintained that this odd, flat, frankly nonsensical little scene must have been imposed by the studio ex post facto, and I'm inclined to agree. I'll have to watch the film again. Kind of off-topic, but I just found out that the 1957 film Night of the Demon, directed by Jacques Tourneur and starring Dana Andrews, also stars Peggy Cummins. I've been on the fence, but now I'm definitely going to get it. I should have taped it when TCM showed it. Oh well. BTW, as you probably already know, the studio forced Tourneur to actually SHOW the demon, which inevitably compromises the film somewhat. Night Of The Demon is a MUST HAVE. There are only a couple of shots of the "studio imposed demon"...it really doesn't have an adverse effect on the film as a whole. It's so much fun to watch Andrews be a skeptic of all things supernatural...while everyone around him (and the audience) knows different.
  13. Guitar Hero & Guitar Hero 2. Never played them...but then I have a REAL guitar to dance around the house with and make a fool of myself.
  14. This was the setting for Bertolucci's "The Dreamers", right?
  15. Who wasn't?
  16. I bought a little 24-CD soft case to put the discs in...I agree, that box is a pain in the ass.
  17. Wilbur Ware is on With Friends volume 3?? OH MY GOD!!!!
  18. Lord Dunsany - The Gods Of Pegana
  19. Not sure if it qualifies as "noir"...but this is another film I really enjoy: Widmark and Paul Douglas on the hunt for killer carrying bubonic plague (Jack Palance). A gritty Kazan effort.
  20. Oops, I hope my post didn't sound like I was putting down Fripp's chops. It was actually my warped idea of a backhanded compliment. Fripp is one of my favorites. That "Islands" band was amazing, Fripp's guitar & mellotron work on A Sailor's Tale is exactly my kind of thang.
  21. Louis who? Armstrong? Looks more like Memphis Slim. MG Yes, Armstrong. Check out the "trumpet scars" on his mouth.
  22. Oh Yeah! Dark, dark...DARK! I need to watch this again, fantastic film. Raoul Walsh is one of my favorites.
  23. ...I do believe his name is Louis...
  24. I have a similar issue with my Sony deck, but if I play them on my computer there's no problem. I've often wondered if the problem is with my burner instead of the deck itself. But since I'm not the only one who's experienced this maybe it's not.
