  1. I've never seen that album. How is it? Loose but very enjoyable jam session date. Worth buying for the personnel alone....
  2. I gotta pay my respect to Morphine, a very unique band and a tragic loss when Mark Sandman passed away. They proved that a baritone sax can propel a rock band as well as a guitar. All their albums are worth seeking out. Check out the song "Top Floor, Bottom Buzzer" off of "The Night" for a GREAT party song. "...by the time we put the Al Green on, the bottle was gone."
  3. Not surprising that it's in E Flat Minor since that's the only key he can solo over.
  4. Okay, I've always used banks, I have the opportunity to join a credit union...but really don't understand what the difference is...or what the pros and cons are. I know it will differ from place to place...but can somebody provide me with a simple explanation of the difference? Thanks in advance. Shawn

    Prestige RVGs

Mose Allison Sings is a compilation of vocals. I got it in college. It has been available for about two decades as Greatest Hits. You can get that at Your Music. True...but the mastering on Greatest Hits is ancient and I'm really looking forward to what Rudy can pull off with these tracks. Plus...Mose Allison is "da shit".
  6. Fripp's "strange control" is that he's a master writer, producer, arranger, guitarist & finder of extreme talent. I doubt seriously that Fripp puts any "restraints" on Belew...
  7. Now if only I had some money...those rental deposits will kill ya. (security, pet deposit, electric, gas, cable, etc)
  8. Consider yourself lucky and enjoy the music!!!!
  9. It's a tie, I purchased these CD's on the same day. The upper CD is the Elektra version with the bonus tracks from the Creeping Death EP. You can see about 50 holes when you hold it up to the light...but it still plays!!! My mother picked out the Deep Purple disc, she loves Child In Time (she says it reminds her of me because it came out the year I was born).
  10. Thanks guys...man, I must be tired to have missed that link.
  11. I was looking on their site and there seems to be no way to provide feedback, request specific reissues, etc. Anybody got an email address for these cats? Thanks!
  12. Do any of the download stores carry her stuff? I've been very curious to hear what she sounds like, but I haven't been able to locate anything yet. And I've been too busy packing to search very hard.
  13. When it comes to Moodsville albums, many times it's the song selection that will help me decide what to purchase (if I'm stuck trying to decide). With these two particular sessions, I have to give The Hawk Relaxes the edge...but just barely... It's all a matter of personal taste, but they are both very worthwhile & enjoyable sessions in my opinion.
  14. Just found those notes - they're on "Bacalao", which I only got a few weeks ago and hadn't got around to reading the notes. I don't think that it's insulting. Time and again one reads notes in which the musicians are praised for breathing new life into warhorses. That's all Amiri did in this case. It's perfectly legit comment, in my view. MG I haven't read them in awhile, I'm sure you're probably right...I just remember being really turned off by them at the time.
  15. Not a bad idea! God...this is probably like the 35th time I've moved in my life...once I get down there, I think I'm going on a nice long bender. Thanks to Mr. Gone for the link, much appreciated!
  16. Sorry man...it's the whole metric thing...I'm a math phobe. So how many grams = 1 pound? I don't know any coke dealers.
  17. Thanks gang, I'm headin' to the post office where they have scales.
  18. I'd love to see the official Quartet Out tour van....
  19. I can't remember which album it was, but "Leroi Jones" wrote the notes to one of Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis' Prestige albums, wherein he spends the entire time talking about how boring the songs on the album are...but that Lockjaw manages to salvage them to some degree. They came across as insulting and if I was Lockjaw, I would have found him and wrapped a mic stand around his head.
  20. I judge liner notes based on whether they keep my interest whilst I'm sitting on the "throne". If I put them down and start reading the ingredients on the back of a bottle of hand soap...they don't pass my test. However, in those cases they can be used if the spool is empty.
  21. I don't own a scale. Just a ballpark will do.
  22. Here are two more little known but GREAT films by Val Guest. Both well worth the price of a rental.
  23. From Yahoo News: Director Val Guest Dies at Age 94 Mon May 22, 5:51 AM ET PALM DESERT, Calif. - Val Guest, the versatile British director and screenwriter best known for directing science-fiction classics "The Quatermass Xperiment" and "The Day the Earth Caught Fire," has died. He was 94. Guest died of prostate cancer on May 10 in a Palm Desert hospice, said his wife, actress Yolande Donlan. He "brought a lot of intelligence to a genre that is often sorely in need of it," said director Joe Dante, a longtime fan of his films. "Every single one of his pictures is thoughtful and well-done." After becoming a director in the 1940s, Guest made comedies, thrillers and musicals, but he was best known for his science-fiction works. "The Quatermass Xperiment" was a 1955 science-fiction horror thriller with a semi-documentary feel about an experimental rocket ship that crashes in rural England with only one surviving crew member. An invisible force gradually transforms him into a monstrous creature as he consumes plants, animals and humans. In the 1961 film "The Day the Earth Caught Fire," simultaneous nuclear explosions by the United States and the Soviet Union knock Earth off its axis and send it hurtling toward the sun. The picture earned Guest and co-writer Wolf Mankowitz best British screenplay awards from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts. Guest also was one of the five credited directors on the 1967 James Bond spoof "Casino Royale." "He was a jack-of-all-trades," Dante said. "But there are a lot of little gems in his output that, hopefully, will come to light now." Article
