  1. Two impressions so far. Another Workout sounds ALOT better than the earlier CD version. The rhythm section is more distinct and the bass and drums are punchier. The Congregation has WAY too much treble. The stereo spread is nice, but the cymbals are just plain ridiculous. I think I'll be keeping my old Conn in this case.
  2. I'm on disc four of the Jackie McLean set, enjoying the last session w. DeJohnette. Next up is disc one of the Randy Weston, gotta here that Little Niles album. Gorgeous.
  3. This is one of my favorites. I try to ignore the stories...and just focus on the fact that he was a VERY talented man who left some great musi c for us to enjoy. Rest in Peace man.
  4. I think she was quite good in Mean Girls and Freaky Friday, she was funny when she hosted the MTV movie awards. She seems to have some natural talent as an entertainer. Now she just needs to focus on doing films instead of being "tabloid goddess". The girl needs to eat something though...
  5. Thanks Jim! Remember the first time I played Ed Thigpen's "Out Of The Storm" for you?
  6. Thanks gang! I do believe there is a rum & coke calling my name....
  7. You should experience the Gulf Coast right now...JEESH...heat index today was 114! Ugh
  8. Happy Birthday! You are a great friend, an inspiration and my "adopted" brother. Here's hoping you have a wonderful day. Shawn
  9. I know it's not "literature"...but Clive Cussler has been my favorite author since 1981. He's intelligent, he actually does what he rights about and his books are FUN!!! Man, what a great word...too bad us adults tend to forget what it really means.
  10. I wish Verve would reissue the Sonny Stitt album with Oscar Peterson, that one is a definite keeper. I used to have the old CD version but one of my ex-girlfriends snagged it.
  11. One of my favorite Jim Sangrey quotes occured one evening after he had gone shopping for used records that day. He had picked up a used Sonny Stitt LP from the early 70's and we popped it on the turntable. I believe we listened to the first 3 songs when Jim suddenly exclaimed: "God DAMN Sonny, how many times can you record the SAME fuckin' album!?"
  12. Great...more CD's I have to buy. I was just listening to Michael this afternoon on the Johnny Griffin/Steve Grossman album. Beautiful playing. I also adore the Griffin album "Take My Hand" (is this the same album released as Woe Is Me?). Isfahan is such a great song and this is my favorite version.
  13. I have a presentation/demo that I want to pitch to a specific company. The presentation will exist as a Powerpoint document, containing written material, graphics & a few short audio & video clips. What I want to do is protect my overall "concept" so they can't steal my idea...and I also want to protect the various documents, audio files, etc contained in it. Lastly, I want to create my own "production company" (me) with a specific name and trademark (?) it. I have no idea what these things cost, so if anyone has a ballpark figure I could use that as well. Sorry to ask so many questions in one post, I'm just hittin' a creative streak and I need to land a new job so I can keep a roof over my head (and my sister & nephew as well). Thanks in advance. Sincerely, Shawn
  14. But that's what I'm doing NOW!
  15. I don't know....I like that Kenny Drew disc. It's true that the Wilbur is buried in the mix (yet again), but a better mastering job could have improved it. It's one of those albums that makes me crave a Chivas on the rocks for some reason.... Nonetheless, there aren't many Kenny Drew leader dates from the era and Wilbur didn't record NEARLY enough, so I think it's worth at least 2.98.
  16. I puke in Sony's general direction....
  17. Kevin, thanks for posting the link to that OPPO player...I HATE the Sony SACD player I have, I mean I DETEST the thing. This looks like just the machine I've been wishing for. Now all I have to do is get a job that actually pays a liveable wage.... Shawn
  18. Here's hoping they do the same for the early Gene Ammons material....
  19. Oh hell...Europe... Now I'VE got it stuck in my head. As for me, I keep thinking about this one line from the film Frankie & Johnny..."Who do I have to fuck to get a waffle?"
  20. Looks like a crock of sh*t to me....
  21. It's a hot sum bitch in old Mississip...
  22. Are you playing the discs backwards? Are you playing them forward but have your back to the stereo? Did you insert them upside down into the player? Do you realize that EMIT 'NIKCEP is Peckin' Time backwards? Open the pod bay doors Hal.....
  23. I already have the lights.
  24. I'm in a situation where I need to have some extra time in my day for babysitting duties (my nephew). This would only allow me to work a part-time job in the evenings & weekends. Of course, that isn't going to completely cover my bills. So I need to find something I can do from home on the computer to earn some extra income. Anybody have any ideas? Know of any trustworthy companies? Doesn't matter what the job is, anything from data entry or customer service....to audio/video editing, mastering, etc.... (Sorry to post this here but I'm kinda in a desperate situation)
  25. Happy Birthday John, you are missed! adding this to the listening queue for tonight...
