  1. Tonight: Opeth, Mastodon & Ghost at the Gibson Amphitheater.
  2. Bet that is awesome.
  3. I plan on revisiting Dollhouse in the near future, I think it's a show that probably works better once you already know the story and are able to just "absorb" each episode. Thankfully Whedon's stuff tends to stand up to repeat viewings.
  4. Storm Corrosion (Steven Wilson & Mikael Akerfeldt) have unveiled their first official video from their upcoming debut album. Beautiful stuff!
  5. Very cool episode of Fringe. The daughter is quite the stunner I must say.
  6. I assume third-party software updates are separate from OS updates, just as with Windows. Correct. Adobe updates have to be applied separately.
  7. Hell Yeah! How was the show?
  8. Big Bang Theory Community The Vampire Diaries
  9. Grew up watching American Bandstand in the 70s, always liked his attitude. I used to imagine he kept a painting in the attic that aged for him, I guess it's magic wore off. R.I.P.
  10. Watts Towers, Los Angeles
  11. Fairly simple idea, post a famous album cover and a picture of the actual location where it was shot. Black Sabbath's iconic debut LP cover from 1970 Photo Location - Mapledurham Mill near Reading.
  12. Whether something is "authentic" or not is subjective. It's all opinion, there is no "seal of approval" issued from the great authenticity supreme court. I enjoy the music that moves me or fits whatever particular mood I'm in. Sometimes it's "important" music, sometimes it's just a groove I dig, or a great guitar riff or a funky bassline. The motives behind the music matter not, I could care less about the artist's intentions or their credibility, I'll leave that to over-thinking scholars to chase their tail over.
  13. Buffy - season 4
  14. Saw it this afternoon and absolutely LOVED IT! I'm a Whedon fanatic, but even I was impressed by how well this was pulled off. Great dialogue, atmospheric, satirical and an homage to horror at the same time. Bloody brilliant! The trailer may give a little of the setup away, but the tone and the scope are well hidden. Can't recommend this highly enough, one of the most intelligent horror/comedy films I've seen in a very long time.
  15. Envy, pure and simple. If anything is even remotely commercial, it will be attacked, lampooned and dismissed. This kind of reaction is no different than Punk Rock fans dismissing an artist as soon as they sign a major label deal. It's close-minded, elitist posturing.
  16. Sorry, that doesn't warrant an answer. Agreed. He was probably drunk when he posted it.
  17. okay Joss Whedon fans, The Cabin In The Woods opens today, Initial word-of-mouth is very good for this comedy/horror/sci-fi hybrid. Cool "Escher-derived" movie poster too...
  18. I'm getting Google ads for Google.
  19. The Big Bang Theory - Season One
  20. The old view that "rock music" is something you "grow out of", I thought it was bullshit when people told me that at 13...at 41 I KNOW it's bullshit. Every genre of music has merit and none is "superior" to any other style. I love jazz, but I HATE jazz snobs. (you can substitute any genre of music for jazz in that last sentence).
  21. I would say the only trend I'm consciously aware of is a tendency to "cast off"certain things and only focus on the items that truly "hit me". I still have an appreciation of everything in my past, but there are only select items that remain "in the now". Every once in awhile something sifts its way back to the surface, usually for a brief visit and then it returns back from whence it came. The good news is that I'm still discovering music that thrills me, some new, some older items I was never exposed to. Luckily, the adventure continues, even if the big discoveries are in the past.
  22. Most of the music I listened to during the 80s and 90s (teens & 20s) has been filed away in the "been there, done that, don't need to experience it again" pile. I'm guessing about 20% of it I still like. However, music from the late 60s and 70s I appreciate now more than ever. That's really the "golden age" for me, from like 1967-1977. Jazz stuff I pretty much like all eras, with the lion's share being between 1957 to 1972 or thereabouts.
  23. Hmmmm...that would have been interesting. I can imagine chamber jazz versions of Catch The Rainbow, Temple Of The King, Snake Charmer and Sixteenth Century Greensleeves.
  24. I had originally planned to go to the show in Hollywood tonight but the finances won't allow it. I spent my concert money for the month on the upcoming Opeth/Mastodon/Ghost show in a couple weeks. The prospect of a $40 ticket and parking on Saturday night on Sunset Blvd was enough to shy me away.
  25. Not sure if there's anything to "decode" here other than just being whimsical, but I always loved this title. Gretchen Goes To Nebraska by King's X
