  1. ((((((((WOW))))))))) By O V Wright? MG Yeah, this. Details, please. If Muzak was really hip it would be the Motorhead song.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUlMLLiwlz4
  2. Hilarious. Hit-Girl (Chloe Grace-Moretz) is my new hero - "Okay you cunts, let's see what you got!"
  3. I thought that was the sole purpose of the internet?
  4. How many misspellings of the name can we manage? MUZAK
  5. The Blue Oyster Cult set has been widely discussed and I'm really looking forward to it. In addition to many new remasters it also contains a disc of rarities, a compilation of radio broadcasts and also a download card for an additional 4 complete concerts.
  6. Musician sightings in Seattle were not uncommon in the 90s. Ran into Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament from Pearl Jam browsing the jazz section at Tower Records. Hanging out in a tiny bar on 1st ave when Chris Cornell and his wife came in, they bought drinks, put quarters in the jukebox and danced. Ended up standing in line at Dick's Drive-In with Peter Buck from R.E.M. That was funny because I had met him years earlier in Macon, GA. Met Dickie Peterson from Blue Cheer at the Art Institute, he was visiting one of the professors and was nice enough to come into class, chat and answer questions. Also got to sit at the bar and watch Lemmy from Motorhead drink and play flamenco acoustic guitar pre-show before the doors opened for a Motorhead gig.
  7. It appears she ended up in TV movie hell. A shame.
  8. Checked out a couple live performance clips on youtube and this shit RULES!!!!!! Now I need to get the album.
  9. I agree, once you know your condition is terminal it should be up to you to decide how you want to face it.
  10. Shocking news.
  11. I really enjoyed it, I'm more of a Whedon fan though than a comic book fan. He likes to take elements from all areas of genre film and pop culture and blend them together in a very stylized way. I felt that over-amped vibe worked well for something as inherently escapist as a superhero movie. I can understand how some people might not dig that approach, but for whatever reason everything he does I connect with. I haven't seen the most recent Batman film While I think the first 2 movies are exceptional...I also kind of think they take themselves a little too seriously.
  12. A different kind of "cover". Iron Maiden does some of the best cover versions around, here is one of my all-time favorites... Jethro Tull's Cross-Eyed Mary. This is from 1983 and was the b-side to the The Trooper single. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zdqx3XIwxsc
  13. Guitar jazz seems to be a really easy thing for most rock fans to grasp, it's something they are familiar with. Much easier for them than jumping directly to horn players. Late 60s soul jazz is also a good accesible way for them to start getting used to the sounds. Those are the routes I usually take. Stanley Turrentine seems to be a perfect sax player to start with, his stuff seems to connect with just about anyone. Can't go wrong with Eddie Harris either.
  14. 1. Find a picture on a website you want to display 2. Right click on the image and select "Copy Image Url" or "Copy Link Location", etc (all browsers word this differently) 3. Click on the "Insert Image" icon 4. Paste the URL into the box and select "Insert Image" It should look like this:
  15. Just because something expires doesn't mean it won't be back. I've seen many titles vanish and then return a month or two later.
  16. Marketing jazz is a scary concept. A large number of people out there just think "music for old people" when they hear the term, many others think background music for dinner parties and restaurants. I was doing all the audio/visual for a wedding a few weeks ago and the client asked me to put on "some boring piano jazz while we eat". I played great stuff for them (Red Garland, Duke Pearson, Dave Brubeck, Ahmad Jamal) but they wouldn't have known the difference if I had used a generic production library disc instead.
  17. The only Hawkwind albums I'm familiar with are the ones with Lemmy Kilmister; Doremi Fasol Latido (1972), Hall Of The Mountain Grill (1974) and Warrior On The Edge Of Time (1975). There is also the live album Space Ritual (1973). Of those three albums "Hall Of The Mountain Grill" is the strongest (imho). It's interesting to note that Lemmy took a few of his songs with him and re-recorded them with Motorhead. "The Watcher" , "Lost Johnny" and the song "Motorhead".
  18. Agreed. A spectacular film. I wasn't as impressed with Quantum (primarily because of the Bourne-inspired hyper editing) but I'm REALLY looking forward to Skyfall which is coming out soon. Of the Brosnan films my favorite is Goldeneye which I think is alot of fun and not dissimilar to the better Roger Moore vehicles, but I think they kind of went downhill from there. Interesting to note is that Martin Campbell directed both Goldeneye and Casino Royale. As mentioned above, Skyfall has me very excited because I can't wait to see what Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Revolutionary Road) brings to the Bond table, he is such an interesting choice!
  19. That is our low. 109 today and humiid. Ack. It got into the low 90s this afternoon. It's 76 at 10:49pm.
  20. My cat can't stand Miles' harmon mute stuff.
  21. 78 degrees and clear in L.A. at 8:30pm.
  22. Here's the new Steven Wilson song "Luminol" from the "Get All You Deserve" concert film. The song will also be featured on Steven's next solo album, due in the spring. Great track and shows off the more improv-based vibe he's been talking about.
  23. Chrome works great on a Mac.
