  1. None of the villains on that show are anywhere as evil as Close' character...she's one seriously evil corrupt bitch! Of course, that's one of the main reasons it's so entertaining. I still haven't seen Season 3 yet, maybe one of these days Netflix will get around to adding that to their streaming offerings. So far only 1 & 2 are available.
  2. I've worked contract and temp assignments for a few different computer manufacturers in my lifetime, I gotta say the only company with a decent screening/training process was Apple.
  3. yeah, I'm not surprised by that price. As soon as they hear "data recovery" you're screwed.
  4. One of the major pitfalls of "geek think" is to immediately dive into a complex troubleshooting process...and forgetting to try the really simple stuff first. It's an easy trap and I've fallen into it myself. One of the big box stores (I can't remember if it's Comp USA or Best Buy) can check the hard drive to find out if it's even worth investing to recover the data. I wouldn't pay more than $200 for data recovery, it's a scam because they have you by the short and curlies. That's why it's best to buy 2 or 3 external hard drives to back up the data. 1 primary backup, 1 redundant backup stored in a fire safe and a third to store at an offsite location like a Safety Deposit box. If you have multiple backups you'll never need to pay anyone to recover data (in the future).
  5. +1 Nobody forces you to display your birthday to be celebrated and nobody will think ill of you if you don't aknowledge them, live and let live +2
  6. Wino - Punctuated Equilibrium (LP + Bonus 10 inch EP) (Southern Lord)
  7. Bet that resolution soon bites the dust, the new season of Damages has just started ! Yeah, I'll have to wait until it comes out on DVD, I only have local broadcast HD channels.
  8. I just want to know how high it is. The moon, not Louis.
  9. I know what you mean, I think. But the best of them also put me in mind of an explanation of Zeno's Paradox delivered by an inspired math teacher I had in high school: A young man walks toward his girlfriend across the room. He can never actually reach her, since he will traverse half the distance to her, then half of that distance, then half of that, etc. But even if he can't actually reach her, at some point he's so close that it doesn't matter. Those HH Blue Note albums may not be great, but the best few are so close that it doesn't matter.
  10. This sentence would apply perfectly to most of Shorter's Blue Note albums as well.
  11. I joined the Hoffman board recently and it's more of a comedy than anything else. I don't think those guys ever actually listen to music, they just sit there with 17 different versions of the same album and keep switching them back and forth, trying to find the right one....then they stop to swap out speaker cables, perform some witchcraft over their tubes...then argue their findings for 50 pages.
  12. That last post makes sense to me. Exactly the same scenario as the Vee Jay Mosaic boxes. The alternate takes were far superior to the master takes in sound quality.
  13. Roger Dean? No, but it reminiscent...and it's a sci-fi concept album. Closer to Thin Lizzy's Jailbreak than Yes. They are an Austin band.
  14. That sentence was almost surely written by a drunken Irishman in a brothel.
  15. My temporary flirtation with TV shows is at an end, back to watching MOVIES.
  16. Really cool thread by the way.
  17. It may be a "boring" choice, but I had to go with Maiden Voyage. That album still gets me like the very first time I heard it. Also, another thumbs up to the bonus tracks on Speak Like A Child, that box set really opened my eyes to that session. I like them all.
  18. That's be like 75 percent of the Prestige catalog, probably. They didn't call it "the junkie label" for nothing. Of course, I have a feeling that particular problem crossed over to about every other label during the era.
  19. I'll wait until "JAZZ by JUNKIES" comes out.
  20. CAT-ITUDE! Pywacket was dumped on the side of the road along with her brothers and sisters during a thunderstorm in Charlotte NC in 2000. She was the only survivor. I adopted her a couple days later and she's been my constant companion ever since. Though she's 11 now, she doesn't show any signs of slowing down, she's just as cantankerous as ever.
  21. It's a great show, I fell in love with it almost instantly. Then, right after I finished the 3 seasons of Veronica Mars I started watching Buffy: The Vampire Slayer. What do those two shows have in common? They don't care what "17 year olds" are supposed to act like or talk like, they are just the vehicles for a very talented group of writers to express their opinions on life, love..and in Buffy's case, vampires, demons and other things that go bump in the night. And both shows do it with humor and class, without ever turning down their noses at either the characters or the subject matter.
