  1. I chose my blu ray player based on having the Netflx app (it also has Vudu, Cinemanow, Amazon On Demand, Youtube, Pandora, etc). I've played very few discs in it so far, it mostly gets used to access those streaming services. If you have a fast internet connection a good bit of content on these services is full 1080p, the quality will reduce if the connection is too slow. These streaming features have really opened my eyes to alot of content (especially TV shows), which I would probably never have taken a chance on with disc rentals.
  2. That's what we haven't seen enough of yet, Blu Rays geared specifically for music. WIth the storage capacity it can hold, would seem to be a no brainer for box sets.
  3. Approved by Monk and Johnny Griffin.
  4. I love the sound and picture quality of blu rays, especially for music concerts. However, I'm kind of past my "movie collecting" phase in life. The only blu rays I currently own are either music videos, or items I found used.
  5. Regarding the vinyl resurgence, I think it's cool, I've bought some myself. There are many studios boasting "all analog" again, it has become cool to use all vintage gear. However, don't count out digital recording to vinyl as necessarily a bad thing. Audio is recorded at really high sample rates now, there's loads more data than can actually fit in the 16bit word length of a CD. So you dither that stuff down to 16bit/44.1khz to squeeze as much possible into an outdated format (CD). Or...you can leave it at it's full sample rate and run off a copy onto an analog master tape and have vinyl pressed from that...analog has no word length issues to deal with. I have an Opeth LP, recorded all digital, that sounds better on the vinyl than the counterpart CD release.
  6. Yep, I agree 100%. If they had tackled this problem head on (a decade ago) and come up with another alternative that captured the public's attention, they could be making profits instead of bemoaning a decade of inactivity. Now...the ship sailed a long time ago. I can't see a physical item all of a sudden capturing the imagination of the current teenage generation..and that's the only age group the industry cares about anyway.
  7. It's hilarious, I know some very "INTENSE" anti-download opponents, no tolerance at all for downloading, they have to own the original item. The funny part is they buy 95% of their actual CDs used, either on the internet or at used stores. I've tried to point out to them on countless occasions that buying a used CD doesn't help the artist at all...but they refuse to hear that argument. I tell them, if you really want to help your band, either buy the damn CD new or buy legal downloads.
  8. LOL. Well, Amazon has Death Walks Behind You on sale for less than $10, also numerous used copies of the debut album for around $7.
  9. here's another track, this time with Crane on Hammond. This is what ELP really SHOULD have sounded like. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOaE1nxjhlU I recommend their first 3 albums (Atomic Roooster, Death Walks Behind You, In Hearing Of..), there's a different lineup on each one, but they all work.
  10. I wouldn't blame downloads for the entire thing. A new generation came along, they all have portable gadgets...and quite a few younger people I've talked to don't want CDs at all, they see them the same way I used to view 8-Tracks. Obsolete and appealing only to the very unhip.
  11. I love this song, wish it hadn't taken me until last year to discover it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZ1ar89hGKk Vincent Crane - Piano, Flute Carl Palmer - Drums & Percussion Nick Graham - Bass. Vocals
  12. second the recommendation for "The Big Three" and "Classic Tenors".
  13. If the school sent him back to class and considered it a non-issue, why the hell did they call the Police in the first place? It would seem to me that the school's decision to release student information to the police in this case was ill-advised. Drag an 11 year old to a police station and run him through all the crap just to "scare him straight" (wouldn't surprise me); that's one seriously dumbass police department.
  14. I found the "preferences" tab is under the "iTunes" column, not the "edit" function. Not sure if this is a Mac v. PC difference. There is. All Mac applications have preferences listed under their name menu, the edit menu was used for the Windows version.
  15. Most iTunes upgrades these days are for adding functionality to the iPhone, iPad, iPod and social networking features, that's what the kids want. However, it's always simple to turn these features off.
  16. Elvin Jones - Complete Blue Note Sessions (discs 1-2)
  17. Larry Coryell wasn't playing "rock" in 1967 either. But what he WAS playing differed enough from the accepted conventions of "what jazz is" (aren't we still debating that?) that they had to call it something. His generation grew up with both jazz and rock, it was just a natural evolution for them. Same for many of the younger cats Miles ended up jamming with during that era.
  18. I didn't really appreciate the Isle Of Wight gig until I saw the DVD a few years back. Something about having the interviews with the musicians and the back story of the gig...plus being able to watch that crazy band...helped the music to hit me more than it had previously.
  19. Matthew, try to get Johnny Hammond's "Breakout" and Hubbard's "Straight Life" while you're on the CTI kick. Those are two of my favorites.
  20. Bet those are neat! He did some cool scores.
  21. Angel - Season 5
  22. I guess I need to revisit Match Point. I seem to remember liking the beginning, but then not really "buying" the second half. I'll revisit at some point. My favorite line of dialogue in Celebrity is heard in the background in the plastic surgery center. A guy walks up to the receptionist and asks "Do you do penis enlargements?", the receptionist responds, "No, we don't have the space".
  23. Here are a few of my favorites: A Midsummer Night's Sex Comedy Hannah & Her Sisters Radio Days Crimes And Misdemeanors Everyone Says I Love You (I know, it's a musical, but I dug it) Sweet And Lowdown Match Point was overrated I thought. Celebrity actually isn't that bad. Scoop is one of the worst movies I've ever seen...
