  1. I may not write, but from someone who reads, I pray that more people refuse to "dumb down" their art for the general populace. The general populace is fucking stupid enough already, make 'em read.
  2. Great photos, performance footage and recollections from famous musicians make it worthwhile. No comment on Marsalis/Crouch.
  3. Listen to Ted. Just play the albums that you want, the cartridge will be fine.
  4. Excellent documentary.
  5. Kansas City is playing with some swagger tonight. the Texans appear to be for real at last. Don't crown those 49ers, Carrol's Seahawks murdered them. The Jets offense was offensive tonight... oh yeah...the Cowboys look unfocused as usual and even unintentionally hilarious. (sorry fellow Texans) I have a feeling we're going to have some real surprises come post-season this year...the season already has an interesting vibe to it.
  6. Richie Havens - Just Like A Woman (live performance from Dylan's 30th anniversary concert)
  7. Chuck, Some bands are selling 24/96khz FLAC downloads online now, that's something that might be worth investigating.
  8. I do the majority of my listening from the computer, but most of my collection is lossless (either FLAC or ALAC). I've also started doing 24/96khz vinyl transfers, which come out VERY nice indeed. Since my computer is the central component of my stereo system there is no discernable difference between playing an audio CD or lossless file (thanks to Jazzbo for helping out with cables). I also have an older Sony CD player, Panasonic blu ray player and a Technics turntable running through the same setup. It's very convenient. That convenience factor of using digital storage/playback mediums is just too enticing to someone that has grown tired of maintaining and organizing a large-ish CD collection...most of my CDs are stored in boxes. I've turned into a playlist junkie as well....
  9. Interesting, honoring an entire family...why don't they just give an award to Ellis for his sperm and that would take care of the rest.
  10. "Midnight Sun" - Air
  11. What Jim said. Great fuckin' record.
  12. Wilbur Ware. Pretty much anything, but check out the track "Catharsis" from "Johnny Griffin Sextet", Griff & Ware do a bass/sax duet for a few minutes that's one of my favorite moments in recorded jazz.
  13. The main issue is that the Mac OS is far superior to anything Microsoft has unleashed on us. I used Windows computers for over a decade, I've never been happier since switching to a Mac. Buying a computer where the hardware and software is developed by the same company...what a concept! Just because Microsoft has a near monopoly on the market doesn't mean they are the best choice. ...plus my iMac runs both Windows & Mac OS X, so it's the smartest choice overall.
  14. This is a nice intimate recording. Ellington either solo or with bass/drums backing.
  15. Alias - Season One Is it a bad thing when your least favorite character is the primary one?
  16. I switched to Google Chrome, it runs faster than either Safari or Firefox on Snow Leopard.
  17. I think you're correct.
  18. Has Clapton done anything that's NOT a snoozefest since the early 70's? I've tried many times to "get" Clapton, but other than Cream & Blind Faith, he just puts me to sleep.
  19. "we don't care what you say, F*** You!"
  20. Twice Around reminds me more of The Jazztet than Adderley (unless I'm missing a specific tune).
