While perusing Discogs I came across this: : https://www.discogs.com/release/7920632-Gil-Evans-Favorite-Catalina-Melodies Anyone know anything about? Is it even "the" Gil Evans? No mention of it in any of the 3 books I have about Gil.

Just looked it up. It's the Royal Festival Hall. (I had it wrong on the cd I made from the 2 Lps that were issued. )

IIRC He's also with Gil in the Royal Albert Hall concerts (Or is it the Queen Elizabeth Hall?).

Me too. The list of his recordings (not necessarily releases) in the"New Desor"-- Duke Ellington's Story on Records-- suggests that most of the concerts he gave in the last decade of his life was recorded by someone.

Then you're right: he probably did make a nice piece of change from the record. IIRC Russ Freeman made enough money to retire after Mariah Carey recorded her version of The Wind. (The retirement part isn't mentioned but here's a good story about it: https://jazzresearch.com/russ-freeman-the-wind/.)

Did he write something on it? Otherwise I don 't think he gets anything except his session fees.

Koerner Hall? That will be great. I saw Laurie Anderson there a few weeks ago.

Just came back from a Kronos Quartet concert at which they played "Kiss Yo' Ass Goodbye" credited to Sun Ra, Terry Riley and Sara Miyamoto. According to the program notes it "utilizes Sun Ra's Track 'Nuclear War' as source material." It begins to really kick ass when they sample the drumming and chanting from the original.

It's up at both Band Camp and Amazon.

Despite the title she gave the article she never gives any total sales figures. There have been several articles pointing out that the DOJ never said that 50% of books published sell less than 12 copies a year. They asked a hypothetical question.

OK (as is often the case) I was wrong. Buchnamm-Moller does list it. However in the index he just refers to it as "A Little Bit South of North Carolina". He confirms all of the above but adds that he got the info from Lee Young. BTW Does anyone have a source for a digital or cd version of the Everybody's Lp?

IIRC it's not really complete, but rather a collection of what had been previously released as individual albums put into chronological order. If I do remember correctly I wonder if there is more unreleased material. ( just looked at the liner notes and they claim that this is "all known" recordings from the date but I doubt that they had access to the Contemporary vaults.) Nevertheless a great set and I'm just being greedy.

I've found a playlist on Spotify called "Lester Young Chronological solos:1936-1942". There are 200 entries including many (though not all) alternate takes and recorded broadcasts. There is one entry that is not listed in Frank Buchmann-Moller's Prez discography. It's from 1941 or '42: "Just a Little Bit South" and whoever compiled the playlist says it's by an "unknown band" (and singer). The tenor solo sure sounds like Prez of that era. Any one know about this?

Until he picked up the keytar off a stand he sat at a grand piano at right angles to a an electric keyboard switching between the two even within solos. Though I've seen the film several times it's been a while and I wouldn't recognize the theme from Blowup.
