On his his substack Will Friedwald makes a pretty convincing argument that the two sides credited to Billy Strayhorn on the cd version of The Jazz Scene are actually by Nat "King" Cole. https://substack.com/home/post/p-147540254?source=queue&autoPlay=false. Curious to hear what others think. (I certainly would have believed that Strayhorn was responsible for "Halfway to Dawn" till I listened to the Cole piece Lewis Porter suggested as a comparison. )

I wish I had kept a record of the concerts, club dates and festivals I've seen over the last 62 years, but I think I remember almost everyone I've seen even if I can't always remember sidemen or my reaction.

The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store, which I quite enjoyed in part because of the list of bands who play at one of the character's dance hall: Chick Webb, Lionel Hampton, Count Basie, Jay McShan, Mario Bauza, Louis Jordan and Mickey Katz. Not sure this is chronologically plausible since most of it takes place 1925-36.

Were the Jubilee shows, or even numbers from them, issued as V-Discs?

The first 20 shows include Ellington, Basie, Carter, Calloway, Lunceford, Armstrong, Hite, Hampton, Watters, Horne and Holiday. That's a pretty good list.

184 of the Jubilee show are available as downloads or mp3 cds for $20 at https://www.otrcat.com/search/?cd_pref=mp3&q=Jubilee. You can also get them as regular cds for $435. This is not the complete run (184 shows) but many important shows are included. At one point many shows were available for free down load but I can't remember where. I got a 3 cd Ellington V disc set and discovered that it was all commercial releases. So no EKE I guess.

Went to a concert at the Music Academy of the West where students, teachers and artists in residence performed all 20. It was stunning.

I saw him last night in a smallish club. Knocked me out. He had 2 mics-- a regular one and one that gave that "synthesized" voice. He would use one or the other for each song. i.e. he didn't switch from one to the other during any one song.

I bought the box set of all the British '66 tour. All the shows sounded the same to me. All you you need is the Manchester show.

The main thing I remember about that show is Bill Graham turning the lights up on "But even the president of the United States/ Sometimes must have to stand naked".

I guess this is the last set that will have a personal note for Michael Cuscuna. BTW Who now owns Mosaic? (I have a vague memory -- many of my memories are vague -that they were once owned by Blue Note. And who now owns Blue Note-- Universal?)

Got mine out here on the West Coast today.

I was there-- at least for part of it. I lived nearby and when i heard Lennon was flying over I grabbed my self-issued press pass and talked my way into the stadium. Saw Gene Vincent and Alice Cooper as well as Lennon, Clapton, Ono etc.
