  1. I bought this set 2 weeks ago, without having any Clayton LP's and little jam session type material. Of course, I'd heard most of the musicians on other titles. So far, I've really been enjoying it. These are really jams...9-20 minute songs. They remain very interesting as each soloist does his own thing. Some stand out more than others, but that's the fun in listening.
  2. Shelly Manne - At the Blackhawk vol. 3 The 64 Motown Original Hits - 4 Lp set Pink Floyd - DSOTM MoFi These look great. the others I do not have. At 2 or $3 a pop, you can't go wong. Picked up any BN's lately?
  3. I bought this record (if you are reffering to the last MFSL), but I felt unsatisfied with the sound and the Yoko's remix, compared to my late italian analog issue, at the end I bought a UK original pressing, (at the same price of MFSL). I find the UK pressing more 'natural', richer, maybe a little less dinamic and definition, but it gaves me more joy of listening. I sold the MFSL and the italian pressing and stick with the original. How do you judge your pressing? Yes, I heard about what you mention, but many feel MFSL did a really good job and I agree. I have not compared it to anything else, but I like it. It will have to do, as I do not plan looking for better sounding issues. I am commited to supporting new vinyl issues, if they do a good job. Sold my MFSL "Dark Side Of The Moon" and bought the 30 year anniversary issue. Listening to: Jack Johnson: In Between Dreams Bright Eyes: I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning
  4. I have the vinyl issues of 5 titles. I'm referring to Roy Haynes: Love Letters and Farnsworth: Prime Time. I'll have to listen to others, but I recall them being the same. Sweet recordings, but with a mono sound stage. I'm really surprised, knowing Baker recorded them. Just curious. Maybe it's just the vinyl, as they were done seperately from the digital. The Eddie Henderson: So What? is wide stereo. As is the Plaxico live date. Clark Terry/Max Roach: Friendship is mono. I'd like to know if Mr. Itoh is aware of this. Maybe the vinyl is for the Japanese market and all their vintage mono set-ups.
  5. Their studio titles sound mono. Anyone else notice this.
  6. Went ahead and picked up Soul Sessions. I love the production. Love the way her voice is not buried in the mix. A very clean, you are there recording. A huge failing in most recent pop/r&b albums. The backing vocals are close to perfect. The recording lets the energy and soul come through. Very well done!!! At this point, I'd buy her future albums if they were produced like this (old school). I doubt this will happen, though. Like this much better than the Sharon Jones and Angie Stone albums I just bought.
  7. Ike Quebec: Soul Samba (original stereo) Ike Quebec: It Might As Well Be Spring (original stereo) Freddie Hubbard: Breaking Point (original stereo) John Lennon: Imagine (MFSL fresh off the presses!!) Joss Stone: Soul Sessions (UK vinyl) This LP makes me real glad I have decent stereo. Clean, lifelike recording with some of the sweetest vocals I've heard in some time.
  8. If I had to choose 5 to listen to exclusively, and could pick the albums, it would be: Hodges Hawkins Coltrane Webster Dexter Gordon
  9. I see this is out or will be available soon on the Eighty-Eight's label. I really like his Live at the Jazz Standard, so I have high hopes for this one.
  10. Pearl Jam: Riot Act (Album is dedicated to Ray Brown)
  11. $8.00 at Acoustic Sounds. Buy it!! You can thank me later. It's as good as any Chicago blues albums I have, and the recording/sound is the best.
  12. Ben Harper and the Blind Boys Of Alabama: There Will Be A Light Clark Terry & Max Roach: Friendship (Eighty-Eight's) Lucinda Williams: World Without Tears
  13. This guy got a hell of a deal!! Commodore Vol. 1
  14. Lonnie Plaxico: Live at the Jazz Standard Ellington: Piano In The Foreground Jack Johnson: Brushfire Fairytales (G Love's West Coast brother) Linda Thompson: Fashionably Late All new to me, and I'm very happy to have them in my collection.
  15. Thanks, appreciate it.
  16. Remenber Dr. Larry from eBay? For months this guy sniped me on everything I was bidding on. I had zero luck with manual bidding. He spent around 20K in a few months. I'm sure he was imagining the look on my face. He's a big reason I now use Esnipe. If you can't beat 'em.....
  17. Groovin' to Dizzy Reece: Star Bright (BN Mono/Classic Records) Have almost all of the titles I want (14) of this nice series by Classic Records. The more I listen to these the more I appreciate them. I've started on buying the Eighty-Eight's titles I think I may like. 3 more to arrive this week.
  18. How staticy do your LP's get after playing?
  19. Not jazz, but a big for the 4 Men With Beards reissue of Aretha's classic "I Never Loved A Man...." . Get it, and play loud!!!! Art Pepper Mosaic LP set, off eBay: Man, I am starting to get a lot of Art Pepper without making it a priority. To me, he is very accessable yet very unique. He transforms a tune into something I love and would not pay attention to otherwise. He does not fit it, yet does, if you know what I mean. There are also some sweet Chet Baker highlights in this set. I'm up to 17 Mosaic LP sets. I have many classic original jazz LP's, yet these Mosaics remain at the top of the stack. What next???? One of the Commodore's on eBay at the monent???
  20. It may have as much to do with the absense of tubes in the chain. Many solid state analog recordings have the life and warmth sucked out of them. Live, as usual, is the way to go.
  21. Damn, beat me to it. Had to do a search to find out who Boney M is/was. Stay tuned for my 'Gotta praise" Joss Stone!!
  22. I like " Don't Give Up On Me" because it does not feel/sound over-produced. Could be the recording/mix that has his singing as the dominate message.
  23. I have received 3 Mosaics recently: Clifford Brown, Art Pepper and Buck Clayton Jam Sessions. I make the time to do what the reviewer mentions. I consider it a much better experience than single albums. I do not feel reading the booklets, for the different types of info available, is an academic experience. It was very pleasurable reading the Clayton booklet while listening to the music. Following along the solos list(with short explanations), reading why Woody Herman was there, etc., all added to my experince.
  24. Then bid a higher amount to outbid the snipers. I use Esnipe for time and economical reasons.
  25. Or.....you can buy the 4(10 LP's) in print Songbook titles released, in analog, by Speaker's Corner(Germany) for about $280.
