  6. I do not have the Select, but I fairly recently received the Omega material(Japanese LP's). Indeed, the Pepper/Perkins combo is a thing of beauty. The descriptions do not do it justice, you need to hear it for yourself. Pepper is soloing and Perkins is off doing his own thing, but it fits so perfectly. He's so 'right there' with Pepper it's scary. I've never heard a pianist comp or trade with Pepper like this. After Pepper finishes, Perkins takes off with as much energy as Pepper. Anyway, get the Select.
  7. Would it be a better album if 'Una Mas' was 10 minutes instead of 20? Or, is that one of the good things about it? I think the previous. About half the time, I get up and flip it half way through. I do drop the needle down on where he says "Una Mas" before flipping.
  8. I may be one. Still the only place to get it?
  9. The Great Jazz Trio: Autumn Leaves (88's japan vinyl) Dexter Gordon: Something Different (SteepleChase SCS 1136) Interesting guitar over-dub on Invitations, but it works amazingly well. Beautiful song.
  10. You could look into the best 'stylus profile' for reducing noise. You could get a TT that accepts 2 arms, one for stereo and one for mono. Have you used a test record to set up your TT? I assume you've fiddled with the anti-skate.
  11. Another generality/blanket statement that is false.
  12. Three words: ear wax removal
  13. Nice! Do not see this one much. Picked mine up, about 10 years ago, on a trip to Disneyland. Took a break from family and fun and went to the closest used record store I could find.
  14. Mono record groove simply moves laterally . On a stereo disc the two groove walls carry related but nevertheless independent signals, each wall undulating at 45° to the record surface. The noisy left channel in your old mono LP's may have been caused by the inner(left channel) groove getting more worn by improperly set up TT of the past. You really need a pre-amp with mono switch. Most mono cartridges are just 'summed' L & R channels anyway. My other thought is a worn record is a worn record and will be noisy regardless if it's mono or stereo and no matter what you do. More info you may need
  15. How about Burrell as co-leader? John Jenkins & Kenny Burrell on Blue Note. Just got this and think it's quite good, actually. Just wish Burrell took the spotlight more, but Jenkins sounds good as does Sonny Clark.
  16. I like this feature This one, also.
  17. Sidewinder may have the Mosaic LP set. Maybe, he'll chime in.
  18. Picked up 2 of the 3 or 4 jazz reissues Sundazed released on vinyl. Al Cohn: Cohn On The Saxophone (Dawn 1110) Jimmy Raney: Visits Paris (Dawn 1120) Nice packaging: thick, glossy cover with reusable outer sleeve and static free inner sleeve. The last two being things you will not have to buy if you store you LP's like I do. Nice touch. Quiet, flat vinyl. Real good sound on the Cohn and ok sound on the Raney(1954 recording). I'm hoping Sundazed does more jazz reissues, but I'm assuming they will be few and far between.
  19. Oh, I see. No, it's not for the burn from my LP that I use in the car. I do not decorate my burns and if I did I could use the LP jacket picture, etc.. Just curious how Water's quality translates to CD to see what all the raving is about.
  20. So you wanna decorate your "burn"? Got the original vinyl spinning at 33 1/2 at the moment, old buddy. I have zero burns, other than copies from my collection that I make for the car. Just curious how Water's quality translates to CD.
  21. Has Brown Sugar been on CD before? Do not plan on getting it, but would like to see a scan of the packaging job Water does.

    Bird Lore

Brownie, would you like to lead the Bird Lore festivities?
  23. I can tell you how the bass on the original Contours LP is, if you like. Seems like this has been discussed before. IIRC the bass is softly played on Contours. Probably, nothing they could do about it in the re-mastering.
  24. Donald Byrd: Royal Flush Tony Williams: Spring Both original stereos.
  25. Alcohol vs. thinking and typing at the same time.
