    Red Nichols

Interesting viewpoints. I'd call it a draw. My reaction to what little Red Nichols I've heard......Holy shit, that guy can blow and everyone else in the band is top notch. Great energy and a very true jazz vibe to it, whatever race they may be. I love the solos for a purity of tone and no nonsense approach. The music as a whole is not my cup for everyday listening. How long did he keep his bands together?

    Funny Rat

Pink Floyd.....DSOM is still so popular and still a huge seller. Very recently, I sold my Mobile Fidelity vinyl copy and, turned around and bought a really cool 30th anniversary vinyl issue. Gatefold jacket, a sticker and 3 24x36 posters!! All analog, cut by one of the best on thick, dead quiet wax and pressed in the UK or Germany. I can still enjoy it, as I never played it to death. When I play it on my home system and turn it up, it is quite an amazing and unique album in many respects.
  3. Is there an indepedant reissue label that has been around as long as Mosaic? 25 years!! They must be doing something right. Seems like they've attracted a few EU copy cats, also.
  4. What do you Newborn Jr. fans think of Harlem Blues(Contemporary ) with Elvin Jones and Ray Brown?
  5. thanks, but i'm not subjecting myself to that thing again. i learned my lesson after giving the Grant Green live boxes a chance - time and time again. they never got any better. soulless, extremely overrated musician. perhaps not as a guitarist, but definitely as a jazz guitarist. i wouldn't even call it jazz. and he plays standards either too fast or too slow. just doesn't seem to know how to get into the right groove. days of sookie, sookie, for example. a tune that people usually play in a lush, relaxed manner. he rushes through it like he's going to die the next year.
  6. Believe it or not, I have a permanent search going for 'Nessa' on eBay and have my eye on a few. Nessa vinyl
  7. Been listening to a VG copy. Love it, and need to find a minty one. Can pay or have a few things to trade.
  8. Our EU friends seem to listen to a ton of stuff I've never seen or heard of. Enjoying a couple reissues I was not planning on getting. Classic Records did two Miles Davis 10 inch titles. Young Man With A Horn(5013) and Vol. 3 (5040). Deep groove labels, flat edge, etc.. Very nice!! At $30 each I've always spent my $$ elswhere, as I have the tunes in various forms. A $12.99 each(still sealed ) Buy It Now on eBay sent me over the edge.
  9. I have 3 or 4 of his Contemporary titles. He seems to have it all as a piano player. Not that I would really know what that is. I also have an Atlantic title coming in the mail, courtesy of our friend Dmitry.
  10. Thelonious Monk: MOSAIC Complete Black Lion & Vogue LP set...$66! eBay baby!!!
  11. Whatever the woman I get into the listening booth with me wants to listen to.
  12. Have about 10 Kessell titles. 'Some Like It Hot" is my favorite by a country mile. Then the Poll Winners albums. Then Carmen(it has some of the same instrumentation as Standards). Carmen gets a ton of play around here as many friends/family like it compared to my other jazz titles. Big to Mr. Kessell's contributions on The President Plays With The Oscar Peterson Trio(Norgran). Beautiful!!
  13. Wierd!! I have been enjoying Ryan Adams: Cold Roses today and came here to post how good it was, and I see your post. LMAO
  14. Ry Cooder & Manuel Galban: Mambo Sinuendo (2LP) Patti Smith: Trampin' (2LP) Ryan Adams: Cold Roses (2LP) Al Cohn: Cohn On The Saxophone (Sundazed LP) Jackie McLean: Swing, Swang, Swingin' (MONO) (Classic Records LP BN-4024) Jimmy Raney: Visits Paris (Sundazed LP) The Great Jazz Trio: Autumn Leaves (Eighty-Eight's LP)
  15. You are a good man!!! Weird, the fuses didn't go.
  16. Ben Folds and Blind Boys Of 'bama: There Will Be A Light Joss Stone: Soul Sessions
  17. Yep!! I really do not see any grey areas. Either you own or license(and all that that involves) the performance before you release it, or you are ripping off/stealing. The public domain labels that market their stuff in the USA are no better.
  18. New additions, finally getting some playing time: Warne Marsh: All Music (Nessa) Nice, all the way around!! Real good sound on the piano. That poor instrument gets the short end very often. Art Pepper: The Intimate (Analogue Productions) Artist House sides, but don't know if they saw the light of day before this(1996).
  19. You could probably piece together a real nice comp of Art Pepper on clarinet. He called it the most difficult horn to play.
  20. Snoop Dogg had a gig at my HS everyday for 3 years.
  21. Space Deck I suppose you have the Space arm?? How much does it weigh? Does it use a clamp? The 'LOG' must be a sight to behold!!
  22. Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life (Motown) I need to find a mint original. My 2 copies have seen lots of play and abuse from my younger days. Pure genius!!
  23. You can walk into a USA Tower Records, go to the Horace Silver section and pick between Blue Note and Definitive CD's of the same material. Does the consumer really win, because he bought the cheaper/larger CD?

    Stevie Wonder

Looks like this one is going the full 15. Lemme hit the john, grab a beer and put on some Stevie. A draw will go to Fitzgerald, as he's the champ. But, you all are making it interesting. We are missing a strong contender from South Brooklyn. Maybe, he'll get the one still standing.
  25. I'm getting it. I like Tom Joad(most did not), but did not care for The Rising(except for one or two songs) for various reasons. This one sounds like it's right up my alley.
