Very fine set, on a similar level to London Concert (Wave) , it was my first exposure to Warne and Lee when I picked it up in the early 90s. Sound quality is fine but nothing special.

Love this one, perhaps my favourite early Geller album.

I remember you too, great cuttings from old newspapers and magazines amongst other things, welcome back !!

Good find ! Oxfam round here never comes up with that sort of stuff. If it does, it is ££. It wasn't cheap at £30 but the vinyl and sleeve are pristine.

Can't be bad playing with Coltrane, Bud Powell with a short space of time. His BN sessions really shine although his Savoy sessions are pretty good too!! Happy Birthday

Are you using IE7 or IE8, Ed? I'm using 7 Hans Anyone know what the purpose of the Multiquote button is ? I tried clicking it and it and a pop up box indicated that I'd exceeded my daily quota ..... errrr.... really no idea what that meant.

next altogether cooler Ken Moule Seven - September 20th, 1954 (Esquire 10 417) Dave Usden (tp), Keith Barr, Roy Sidwell (ts), Don Cooper (bs), Ken Moule (p), Arthur Watts (b), Lennie Breslaw (d), Bensonality/Hallelujah. it's weird getting material on 78 when magnetic tape must have been used to record these sessions.

Tommy Whittle Quintet - August 17th, 1954 (Esquire 10-398) Tommy Whittle (ts), Harry Klein (bs), Dill Jones (p), Joe Muddel (b), Eddie Taylor (d). Zythum/Debut Fine British bop from Whittle who sounds very much his own man, slightly aggressive approach really which works well , very nice 78

The Trio - Riverside ( black label) nice session , glad to have recently got it from Jazzhouse Records

1977- started buying vinyl ( as a child) 1987 - bought CD player and abandoned vinyl ( kept what I had with occasional bargain additions from Fopp ) 2003- bought a decent TT- started buying vinyl again, roughly 50:50 vinyl to CD 2009- bought a 78 rpm TT- started buying 78s !!! I love the look and feel of vinyl, the sound often but not always surpasses that of CD. In honesty vinyl playback is more about nostalgia and feel when all logic suggests that CD is better and cheaper. Still roughly 50;50 vinyl to CD ratio. Not interested in downloads.

What a fine band, just got a fine LP of Leonard's RCA output ( Mid 60s Victor Vintage Jazz series). Mix alternates and original issues. Luckily I have a original take of A-la bridges on 78

my copy of Vonski Speaks arrived today, the music is really sublime and Chuck has brought the sound up a treat. Marvellous

I really like Woody but this recording doesn't do too much for me (not listened to it for years) It's definitely chaotic - but I like it. Much prefer it on vinyl than to CD too. Got to speak briefly years ago with Contemporary producer John Koenig about this session - it was apparently arranged/recorded at very short notice with lack of preparation (which shows at times) and there was a fair bit of 'intoxication'. For me, it makes an interesting contrast with Miles' 'Bitches Brew' from around the same era. I only have the CD which is dense and difficult to listen to IMO

from my usual source today only one 78 I got a date with rhythm DeLuxe All star band featuring Billy Eckstein (sic), Dizzy , Freddie Webster and Wardell Gray also are heard. flip side I couldn't hear nobody pray The four blues- (Spiritual Quartet) DeLuxe 1003- The spiritual is nice but sounds as if it was recorded underwater. The Eckstine track is a blast- can't find this in Dizzy's discography.

In anticipation of receiving my copy of Vonski Speaks I've been spinning Serenade & Blues this evening ( and Have no fear earlier on today in the car). Two epic sets, that I have never tired of hearing. Cliched though it is , there is always some new twist to hear on the these magnificent sets. I'm really struck how well John Young works with Von, are there any other sessions available with these two together. ?
