England were terrible, worst thing I've seen yet in this World Cup and let's face it there have been plenty of other dull moments. I was bored.... ever so bored.....

I hope the quality of the football improves as everything I've seen has been very dull indeed- apart from the Germany /Australia game.

I regret to say that I remain rather bored by Murray. It's been quite some time since I listened. My fault probably for buying too many similar albums by him in a short period of time ( in early 90s) I was captivated by "Ballads" and the "Ballads fo bass clarinet" on DIW, these were among the first "avantgarde" ( as I viewed them at the time) releases that I'd heard, they were acessible and "modern" and a clear step forward from my standard listening at that time. My collection of 20 or so CD/LPs needs revisting then thinning.

Segments Live at the Village Vanguard What's your take on Geri ? Just picked up Maroons - very impressed all over again, I must dig out my other GA discs. Any recommendations regarding her more recent recordings. Of these three Vanguard gets the nod from me.

I managed to see him just once , entirely by accident. Junior Mance was meant to play a trio gig at the Edinburgh Jazz Festival one year, for what ever reason Mance cancelled and was replaced by a handful of pianists playing solo. Four 20 minute slots. I sat down blissfully unaware that Mance was off and was a little surprised but also delighted when Stan Tracey appeared to play. John Bunch I think came up last, he was funny swung like mad and played a wonderful albeit brief set. Really liked a tune he referred to as "John's Bunch" Very elegant player RIP

The Conn LP of "The Empty Foxhole" is a Wally as they say and sounds really good to me.

I picked the Rumproller up for £3 in the Fopp sale I mentioned above, I've not heard this average session before but the sound of the RVG is very poor, Rudy asleep at the controls that day, avoid. The session is pretty so-so anyway so I'll not be looking for another version.

I generally find the differences subtle in the half dozen or so MM that I replaced with RVGs. UK posters might be well advised to look into their local Fopp chain where RVGs and whole pile of other BN material is just £3 per disc, I filled out some no essential holes like Look Out!, Lee Morgan 3, Delighfulee, etc for this modest outlay.

I'm interested in these two TOCJ 8676 Hutcherson,Bobby(vib)/Total Eclipse 1100 TOCJ 8680 Jordan,Sheila(vo)/Portrait Of Sheila 1100 any thoughts re the likely mastering, I'm not overly picky but have found a few Japanese BN/Pacific ( based really on just a handful of discs) issues in the past few years to be quite loud and brash, are these reissues know to be good/ bad / average????

I bought five of them (all except the Art Taylor) and they all sound marvelous -- full, warm, extremely well balanced analogue sound. Better than the CDs that I own. Great vinyl quality too, not the slightest hint of surface noise, very unlike those other BN vinyl reissues. encouraging , thanks

Charlie Parker Memorial Concert - Chess - (Italian pressing) 2LP set of decent jam session from 1970. Stars a.o. Dexter, Konitz, John Young, Wilbur Campbell , Kenny Dorham, etc, slightly glassy sound but otherwise very nice

I'm here...that spirtual side sounds interesting... up now Jimmy Ricks She's Got to Go with The Ravens Come a little bit closer Mercury , not sure how Rick's singing should be classified other than so deep and low I wondered if the speed setting was right, sub-woofer or bass voice , gentle R&B . Next a great date for Sonny Stitt on baritone, I had this on the Proper box but the sub-par sound of that set allowed this mini masterpiece to slip by This Can't be love/PS I Love You - Esquire 10-245 ( ex Prestige). Great sound on this UK 78- very full

Great music, perhaps surprising that so few LT lead sessions are featured but the Cleveland, Terry , John Lewis sessions are very fine. The Sammy Price session was of course part of the Jazz in Paris series. I'd hoped the Decca sessions from 53/54 would have been included.

Big Arsenal fan here, I leapt from my seat following Nasri's amazing solo effort, great game for the Gunners....

Any other view regarding the sound quality of these Heavenly Sweetness LPs ?

Don Byas All Star Quintet- Jamboree 900 ( with Joe Thomas, again), also played today's small crop of 78 purchases Bud Freeman Exactly Like You/Blue Room - Commodore Hot Lips Page Rockin at Ryans/ You'd be frantic too Commodore- excellent Lucky Thompson tenor to be heard here Fletcher Henderson Variety Stomp/ St Louis Shuffle Bluebird, a reissue I believe but v good sound none the less The Commodores are pretty much in near mint condition but have relatively high surface noise which may explain why so many Commodore reissues on LP and Cd sound so lifeless as they've been NoNoised to death ( or similar)
