Package arrived but not opened as I’m watching the footie.

I’ve had to dispose of around sixty 78s to regain some control of the spread of my collection around the house. They’re going to Oxfam as it’s just too much hassle to try and sell. None are especially valuable as it is. Being kept however is this very worn disc, an edge bite just into the music but despite its worn appearance it plays pretty well. Charlie Jackson ——The cats got the measles/ I got what it takes but it breaks my heart to give it away ———( Paramount) Ukelele blues , serous stuff. I’ve three Paramount shellac discs. All in poor condition but all testament to extraordinary musicians in extraordinary times.

LP2 of the new reissue of Hot Lotta has 5 tracks (30mins) of material recorded for radio prior to the ten day tour that culminated in “Hot Lotta” . Sound is of the same high standard. This issue comes with Brotzmann’s cooperation and includes his memories of the tour and album. It seems to be very much of a piece with LP hot and fierce. I like the contrasting use of flute/ piccolo flute or tenor sax by Aaltonen. Both sessions in excellent stereo sound with Aaltonen left and Brotzmann right channels respectively.

I’ve not played LP2 but hopefully tonight. Stand by 🙏

Brotzmann/ Aaltonen/ Kowald/Vesala————Hot Lotta———-(Svart) Arrived today this reissue. Two LP set has 5 unissued tracks by the same personnel.

Spontaneous Music Ensemble---------So what do you think?-------(Tangent) I was prompted to dig this out by reading Martin Davidson's comment in the new reissue of Karyobin that he'd passed up reissuing SWDYT because "the percussion to dominate both music and the mix". I really respect MD but can't find myself agreeing with him on this one. Yes percussion is a little forward but on the whole I find this a lively session. So if you know this session, what do you think....?

"Gone" from Miles Davis and Gil Evans Porgy and Bess
Clunky replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Discography
For me “Miles Ahead” is the gift that keeps on giving. Now to find my box set as per OP query -
Well put. In my experience people don’t recover from depression by “trying harder”.

The alternate takes sound so much better than the original album. Great album spoiled.

The man’s simply incredible and he seems like a nice guy too.

The Tjader Brazil / Mexico disc is on its way to me. Tjader, Mongo Santamaria and other ‘latin’ jazz musicians are much further up my playlist than usual. Haven’t played any free jazz for 24hrs. Need to check into a clinic 😮

Flood under control but still wary of switching hifi on. So I’m back to working my way through a small of around thirty 78s. This afternoon Fess Williams —- Razors edge/ Number Ten —/ (Brunswick UK) Fletcher Henderson——Sensation/Fidgety feet—-(Brunswick UK) Bud Freeman Trio—— Exactly like you/ Blue Room ——( Commodore) and now some Billie with Teddy Wilson . What’s not to like. Very relaxing way to listen to 78s by sitting right by the record player

A flood in the bathroom has affected the electrics near my hifi. So I’m sitting elsewhere playing a pile of 78s on a tiny portable turntable. So lots of random gems Satch, Billie, Lee Konitz. Good Bait by Dizzy Gillespie on Manor. I’ve never noticed previously that Count Basie gets co-credit for this classic. Tadd Dameron really could write some amazing tunes. I assume that Bill Basie had little to do with writing this. I’ll need to see if it’s covered in Tadd’s biography.

I’ve spun this a bit lately. It’s a stunning group performance. Everyone is on the top of their game

LP pricing isn’t I think in the audiophile region . So it’s anyone’s guess on how it’s mastered . I’d prefer full analog unless digital had to be used because of NR reasons

The piece was probably 3 mins long, Ravi and Ashley Kahn were featured talking. Snippets from the new album featured plus ALS, My favourite things and some of Alice C’s music too. The discovery was described as a ‘rehearsal tape’ which I can’t think could be accurate.

you guys are getting me hooked on this material. The Tjader cd is en route.

Ravi Coltrane about to be interviewed on BBC R4 Today program. Unprecedented

Thanks, sounds of cash registers .... but mighty tempting. I wonder about the tapes, mono or stereo etc

SME———Karyobin——-(emanem) cleaner sounding cf. the Japanese reissue from 2016. Music as compelling. The emanem reissue has good liner notes and appears to be fully authorised . I had found the Japanese edition anything to complain about but I’m glad to have this newer one from Martin Davidson.
-
Volume 1 also good. Live sound is a little dense. It’s one of those recordings that’s improved more than average with hifi upgrades
-
Happy Birthday. A fine player with a small number of releases but fine in quality

This is standout set on the Mosaic. If truth be told I had around half of the material already but felt compelled to get the set. X-75 being a significant factor.

Louis Moholo Moholo’s Five Blokes————Uplift the people———(Ogun) Beautiful presented and paced set. Of course our worthy constituent plays mean piano here but there is stunning playing all over this. Ezontakana has a glorious soprano sax solo with grumbling tenor sax in the background. I’m assuming that Yarde is on soprano there as liner notes don’t make it clear which sax either are playing. Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrica gives me goosebumps and tense of shame that I swallowed the media lies of the early 80s regarding Mandela et al. Ooops....... wrong thread as this is a CD not vinyl.....

How's this one. Not one I've heard and I do like Lowe's music.?
