  1. I’d agree but I’d broaden that to the first decade. Other than the Monk material there is a fair amount of material that has been reissued once sometimes in piece meal fashion. I’d love to see the earliest (late 40s) Jazz Messengers remastered.
  2. Still playing this one. Pat in great form with a good band. None too greasy but just right measure of adventure , surprise and groove. Love it.
  3. I don't know the first thing about Baxter but I like what I've heard on checking out streaming services which appear to have both these but in stereo form ( I think)
  4. I’d been eyeing the Intakt disc, that sounds dangerously (for my bank balance ) like a recommendation 🐣
  5. Anderson and King played a gig with Dewey at the Edinburgh Jazz Festival in the early noughties. Redman’s playing varied between inspired to insipid in the space of a few minutes. Chardonnay might have been responsible.
  6. Two CDs in rotation today between LPs Pat Martino —- Formidable—- (High Note) predictably good session from the master very late to party i picked up a couple of the Mainstream CDissues including Charles Williams ——Stickball——( Mainstream) recommendation of quite a few members on the thread . Thanks to all.
  7. That is good news. 😀 When I feel a twinge of disappointment that Henry isn’t playing on this release I remind myself that a don’t feel any loss of the Duke isn’t at the piano on many an Ellington release. Same for Gerald Wilson plus countless other top flight composers/ arrangers.
  8. Glad you’re liking this. I think perhaps that if the two Resonance GG sets this is the better one. It’s from a less documented part of his career, the sound is uniformly excellent . The French set does lose a mark for the sound on the 2&3rd LPs. It’s best described as dark which fits the music.
  9. Yes it's good but bad/indifferent Tapscott I've yet to hear
  10. That yes and yes are good to know. it's one of the Dutch archive releases I've no gone for. Some has quite dusty sources, mastering seems excellent but original recordings weren't up to Scandinavian/German standards of that period. Having said that probably all streets ahead of any British broadcasts from the mid 50s
  11. Horace Tapscott---------Autumn Colors------(Bopland Jpn)
  12. Discogs has this filed under Jazz, folk, world & country!! Is that vague description accurate?
  13. Various artists———-Spider Jazz——(Trunk) subtitled ‘KPM cues used in the amazing animated series that we are not allowed to mention by name for legal reasons’ Compilation of KPM library music used in the 2nd and 3rd series of the amazing 🕷 man TV series from the late 60s. Groovy baby.
  14. That's probably a fair assessment.
  15. Happy Birthday Alex, have a good one.
  16. Meanwhile I'll worry about the Gunners chances against Athletico tonight. One nil to the Arsenal would do it (fingers crossed)
  17. This must be the worst example I've come across. I miss the mono button on my old amp that with one touch rendered this set listenable!
  18. I know I should go and sit in the dunces corner but I'd not heard of this guy. I streamed his music for an hour last night and was well impressed by Linton Kwesi Johnson, so thanks !
  19. Paul Bley--------Blood--------(Fontana Jazz Life) Dutch stereo I keep returning to Paul Bley over a period of many years. This is a fine one.
  20. Agree regarding booklet and overall presentation. For me the sets which demonstrate why Mosaic are important are the sets with added value. By that I mean sets that draw together an artist across various labels ( eg Serge Chaloff) , the output of a label ( HRS, Beehive etc) , rare stuff ( any early Mosaic such as Herbie Nichols) , a fair amount of unreleased material (Hill Select, 2nd Hodges & plenty of others) . These for me define what is great about Mosaic
  21. Nathan Davis——-Suite for Dr Martin Luther King Jr———(Tomorrow International Productions) reissue much as I admire Davis this album is uneven with the best bits being ‘gloriously dated’ and some bits just ‘dated’. No idea who is producing this reissue. If your a fan of Nathan you know what to do. If you’re new to him look elsewhere
  22. picked this up the other day. Very fine set but perhaps inevitably it has some flat spots-
  23. Played it tonight and it's far better than I recalled. If you forget that it's Lee and dismiss expectations of another Sidewinder like album it's very strong. I recall when I first heard being disappointed there was no boogaloo but once I'd got past that....
  24. That looks promising, how is it?
