Too true. The Spaniards we met were a sympathetic lot for our plight. It’s odd feeling the pity of foreigners for our political situation. Regarding electric piano . The first track with it is Track 5 disc one. I’ve been unpacking as it’s been playing so it’s not had my full attention but that appears it for disc one. Not managed to get to disc two yet

I picked this up yesterday at Jazz Messengers in Barcelona. I was very restrained there getting just this set plus a Wilson Simonal and Sergio Mendes (Great Arrival ) First impressions of the Wilen are excellent. Beautifully recorded and the band sounds very well in sync with Wilen. I’ve only a modest amount of later Wilen in my collection but this seems like a good buy .

I saw Ambrose with a David Binney group around eight years ago. I thought he was sensational. What I’ve heard of his own music over the years seems overproduced and lacks the fire I heard then.

My copy is dead quiet. I listened to that clip and it sounds to me that the TT and or cartridge used weren’t too great. Perhaps TT with poorer speed stability or cartridge tracking might make the sonic concern more evident....just a thought ... I’m no expert...

I’ve not read the Hoffman thread but I have listened and relistened to Black Fire. I still can’t see what the fuss is about. The TP sounds wonderfully open and clear. I’ve got a N.Y. mono but haven’t done any comparison as life’s too short. I just fancied a nice stereo pressing...

It’s been sitting unopened for the right moment for some months but at last I’ve opened and now listening to the rather incredible Roscoe Mitchell Orchestra———Littlefield Concert Hall , Mills College——( Widehive)

I’ve listened closely to Etcetera Tone Poet edition and I can’t hear any flutter. My system is pretty revealing on the whole. If it’s there it must be subtle. I’m a real sucker for this session having the Conn CD, a 2012 Japanese CD reissue and now the TP edition. The biggest single step up sound wise was the Japanese CD which sounds clearer than the Conn.

I’ve picked up Contours, Etc, Mr Shing a ling, and the Joe Henderson Vanguard Vol 2 LPs from this series. I’ve felt that the presentation and sonics were for my ears excellent. I’ll relisten to Ecetera to listen for flutter. I’ve also been impressed with the two BN80 issues I’ve bought ( Reuben Wilson and Lonnie Smith’s, Think. I’m no upgrade enthusiast on the whole but I’m rather pleased with the new series and will continue to get selected releases either because I don’t have them already or adore them so much...

As I mentioned in another thread I picked up the vinyl edition of Grits, beans and Greens. It sounds absolutely fantastic. No hype required this is a brilliant discovery. It comes with a multi page LP liner note by Simon. I’d imagine this’ll be integrated in the larger booklet for the LP box set. As you’d expect from Simon it’s very informative. I’m very excited to hear re rest of the Fontana sessions on LP. I’ve very few of them put off in the past by the shoddy presentation of Mexican Green and 100% Proof on their CD reissue in 2005.

Because I’ve been largely “off the reservation” I wasn’t aware of the huge LP set that’s coming in September. This lost session is one of the very best Tubbs I’ve heard.

I was playing Black Fire from this series last night and heard what you are referring to. It hardly bothered me so I didn’t go back to relisten and compare with other editions but my impression was that it was related to the piano. Nice reissue

Tubby Hayes——-Grits , beans & greens/ Lost Fontana ———(Decca) muscular Tubbs sounding modern. Driving hard bop in beautiful sound. Immaculate presentation.

I see i started this thread 16 years ago and that Snurdy was my first Nessa release. I think now I've got pretty much all of them on CD or LP or both ( although not yet got Eftsoons). Snurdy was also the starting point for me following (as much as I could afford) the fantastic music of Roscoe Mitchell. Never a dull moment.....

Good summary . On the evidence of this match England (and the other teams ) still have a long way to go . A deserved win by USA. -

Good half with both teams pushing it. USA look super strong. I’m sure it’ll be their night -
Guus Janssen ———Meeting Points————(bimhaus) A single disc from six different sessions from 1999-2014. Lots of highlights including 3 tracks of a quartet with Michael Moore . Meeting Point the title track comes from a fine duet with Lee Konitz.

Thanks for starting a new thread on this. I love Ted's playing. Not a huge discography but a fine one. He deserves support.

https://www.gofundme.com/assistance-for-jazz-tenor-sax-nonagenarian Anita Brown, Ted’s daughter has established a go-fund-me page for Ted. He’s healthy but has fallen on hard times financially since the death of his wife in March. -
If anyone is put off by the presence of voices on some tracks , I’d say don’t be! I'm always a little hesitant about recordings with choirs but here they’re central to the whole vibe and work incredibly well. Plenty of instrumentalists to admire too but I really love the whole thing. Immaculate release .

Agreed on all points. Wish I’d switched off early too. Very poor advert for the beautiful game. -

I’m hoping for a good game. Let’s face that the Europa League final was abysmal and that wasn’t just Arsenal’s performance. As a Gooner I’m ambivalent who wins tonight but I’ll definitely be watching. Spurs got to be underdogs and therefore deserve to lose badly😀.
