They also have a very interesting Mary Halvorson set which is well worth hearing. Beautifully recorded and HQ video.

This arrived yesterday, having been ordered back in November last year. The great south american river came through eventually. Bought on the strength that the same label had done a very nice job of reissuing a Kosuke Mine LP (mentioned here a few weeks ago). This is good too. Masaru Imada-----Green Catepillar-------(TBM/Le Tres jazz Club)

I love the smell of old Mosaic sets in the morning
Clunky replied to ghost of miles's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I've sniffed my collection and concluded what whilst Mosaics smell dandy any time of the day, it's really shellac that has the most distinctive aroma. However stumbling around with 78s first thing is only likely to lead to breakage. So instead this morning it was the Herbie Nichols set with a strong coffee. Breathe deep and smile. -
thanks for that tip, listening to it now.

This is great Pullen and Murray in cracking form. Got this at the time of release. I was hoovering up any Murray I could find. I went a bit cold thereafter but returning to his music of the 70-mid 90s , I find none of it wanting. Estimation restored.

Joachim Kühn------This way out--------(MPS) One LP is the piano trio the other adds Gerd Dudek to good effect. Solid effort which seems undervalued on discogs IMO.

Happy Birthday.................we need another book btw

I followed his career pretty closely until the late 80s. Then more intermittently. I've really never come across anything bad even "Almost Blue" had it's moments of his more recent material the collaboration with Allen Toussaint The River in Reverse and MOMFUKU really stand out. The latter album recalls the post-punk anger of This Years Model or the later Blood and Chocolate. I've got a great deal of time for him.

Elvis Costello——-This Year’s Model——-(Radar UK) declan is still a firm favourite with me. Bought this in 1979 as a 12 year old.

It's a good release. Sound is decent bearing in mind it's age and the simplicity of the equipment used.

I've been spinning a few of this series after a marked hiatus. Marvellous music. I have around half the series. No particular rhyme or reason to the volumes that i have acquired. They all sound great. I'm tempted to add a few more.

This recent album of standards is excellent. I do find it interesting to hear contemporary musicians take on these chestnuts. Like many here i am familiar with the participants on original material. It was cool to hear this but certainly not essential in my view. I think original material should sit alongside standards only if it makes artistic sense. I dont need it to act as a compass or code to understand the originals

Judging by the changes cover the participants look fed up.

Which Mosaic Are You Enjoying Right Now?
Clunky replied to Soulstation1's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Ok I get it. The Kenton is on the to-be-played pile. Regarding the Elvin Jones my admiration for this set only grows. There’s quite a bit of depth to it. Mastering could be a tad bolder but it’s more than good enough. -
Mosaic Records is releasing a Savory collection set
Clunky replied to ghost of miles's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
that £30 charge is a bit concerning, I'm hoping that it doesn't represent a change in the way Mosaic document shipment values. -
Texier is always worth it. I think I prefer his European bands. On this one I didn’t really hear the personalities of his famous band mates. Lovano was particularly anonymous. Sorry Joe😮

I've had the LP edition for about 5 years and barely played it. Whenever I try to play just about any Kenton I quickly thing other music I'd rather hear! Only picked this up as it was ultra cheap. Perhaps I should give it a try. -

I've yet to order any Mosaics from Jazz Messengers. I prefer to go the source. In terms of cost I think ordering direct even allowing for import fees here in UK still works out slightly cheaper. The big plus is that Mosaic will always rectify any issues many months /even years after purchase. There was a spell when packing standards slipped a bit. Outer packaging could end up quite crushed looking. As far as I recall only once (in around 40-50 sets) was there any actual damage to contents. So I'm happy to buy direct. I do buy less than I used to but thats mainly down to the Pound Sterling sliding in value and my shelves being full !! Only ever use standard mail delivery. I did once use DHL and ended up paying absurd import fees which DHL (rather than customs) had applied to the delivery. -
I recall being blown away by this release. I've not found Sal's other dates to be quite at this level.

I can recommend also Mine's Mine (a reissue originally on TBM) .... helpful album titles - not

It's a great set which I only added to my collection last year. I had a Japanese one volume and edition which omits a side of trio material and a side with strings ( roughly). The latter were much better than I expected. My latest arrival, not sure why I didn't spring for this when it was reissued in Japan a few years ago. Any rate glad I've got it now and on my preferred medium.

Same here . I can’t have listened to it in a decade....rectify that this afternoon

I'd not heard of this one. Ljungkvist is a fine player whose work I admire. The clips of this release sound top drawer. The CD seems to be basically unavailable , which is a pity.

I don’t have the Mosaic set but I recall that amongst its USP was that it was mastered from original tapes minus the echo added to original LP releases. It’d be interesting to know what’s been used here
