  1. I was searching a thread dedicated to Fred Anderson and this wa the only one I could find. I've been enjoying a number of titles by FA recently including Missing Link, Milwaukee Tapes Vol1 , Duets 2001. I was looking for later recommendations , there seem to be a number of Okka Disk titles which look pretty intersting. The one with Kowald & Drake looks to be good but I'd welcome any thoughts on later Fred Anderson.
  2. Looks interesting , pity a DL option isn't available as that would suit me better. The CD does look interesting . I have a very nice LP by .N.E.W. on Dancing Wayang .
  3. Hurricane Jones. ------ Hurricane Boogie/Laughing Rag ------- (Oriole) A wild Welshmsn who by an account on the inter web would perform a partial striptease as he played boogie woodie piano cum early rock and roll. Two decent sides of exuberant piano with added bass & drums one side and peels of cackling laughter on the other . File under , unusual.
  4. Steve Lacy -----Crops/ The Woe------(Quark)
  5. Lenny Hambro----------The nature of things------(Fontana) UK 1956 sessions with Hambro on alto and Barry Galbraith and Edfie Costa doing their usual thing. Hambro isn't massively distinctive but the session has comfortable softer hardbop feel. Not dissimilar to a typical Bethlehem session. Solid recording from Epic and excellent pressing. Nice one.
  6. I did this recently. An upgraded Moon phono amp made an enormous difference to my vinyl pleasure.!
  7. Double yes. Nice leader dates and some nice stuff with Ted Brown
  8. You must have had a duff copy I guess. Just given this one a re-spin to check and no complaints here. It looks essentially unplayed and I think came from the archive of 'Gramophone' magazine, probably a major plus factor. No doubt 90% of the copies that made it this far have sadly been hammered to death on record changers and sonically oliterated by styli like knitting needles ! I no longer have my mono Fontana issue but IIRC it sounded fine to me. Mine's a UK Transatlantic dated 1966, it too just sounds fine, i've not heard any other editions.
  9. Zbigniew Namyslowski/ Karin Krog----------Jazz Jamboree '75 Vol.2---------(Muza) Recorded October 1975 in Warsaw. Krog is only on one side (2 originals and 2 Gershwins) , the other side has a long tango like piece for quintet. Both interesting sides, well recorded but not the greatest pressing.

I agree, the new card sleeves are beautifully executed.
  11. He lead a decent session with Lucky Thompson and Eddie Costa !!! called "Around The World In Jazz" - Rama, reissued by Freshsound. I have it on a nice Columbia UK pressing which sounds lovely
  12. An account put together from various Lacy interviews: The musicians were regular Lacy associates of the time, based in Rome. Enrico Rava's wife was from Argentina, and booked them a series of concerts at a theater in Buenos Aires. They bought one-way tickets, but hardly made any money in Argentina, and couldn't afford to get home for eight or nine months. "That was the wrong group at the wrong time in the wrong place playing the wrong kind of music...." He said that they did build up a small following over the months, but they were really glad to get out of Argentina. Thanks for unearthing those quotes. Seems extraordinary that they achieved excellent and well recorded session under those circumstances.
  13. Being a complete dunce I ordered on SHM-CD. Roamin' with Richardson- UCCO/ 5374 I'd forgot entirely that I had the OJC of this session. Whilst it's nice I don't need two copies. I did an AB comparison and found only limited benefit from the SHMCD compared with the OJC. The SHMCD was slightly more open but nothing to get excited about.
  14. Steve Lacy --------The Forrest and The Zoo--------(Fontana UK) So very good. Anyone know the story how this comes to be recorded in Buenos Aires with participants from 3 other continents?
  15. Company ------ Fables --------(Incus) Bailey, Parker with George Lewis and Dave Holland. The latter seems game but pretty anonymous in this context.
  16. Really mixed listening session this evening after a brief interlude of playing 78s back to vinyl. SME--------So what do you think------(Tangent) This seems to be the most coherent SME session I've heard. Kenny Wheeler , great but it's probably Derek Bailey who creates added value. Earlier Yusef Lateef --------A flat, G flat and C------(Impulse stereo)
  17. Eddie Miller-------------Ain't misbehavin ' / Peg 'o my heart-------( Jump) Not a rarity I'd suspect but the only Jump 78 in my collection. Misbehavin' is beautiful with Miller's tenor dancing with George Van Eps' guitar. Another elegant session.
  18. Ichira masuda meets hank jones------The Song is ended-------( Victor Japan) Elegant session
  19. Dexter Gordon--------Dexter blows hot and cool------(Authentic/Dootone) Maroon Dootone LP in Authentic sleeve ( B&W with red/white text) , great music, spotty pressing of uncertain vintage (70s- best guess)
  20. Happy Birthday !!!!!!!!
  21. I have it and it's up to their usual standards

I received my copy the other day and it really is an extraordinary performance and recording.
  23. I've one of these too and it's a dead silent pressing with great sound. I prefer it to the stereo digipak CD version
  24. I'm after a physical copy of this. i think I'll try the label directly once I've worked out how to navigate their Italian only website. This should be on the way to me from the label. As Flurin describes elsewhere email the label and they reply ( in English) and sent me a Paypal request for the cost+shipping. Hopefully the disc should be here soon. The Trio disc is outstanding. What for me started as a desire to support a fellow O member has developed in fully fledged and unashamed fan-boy status. Perhaps the latter has been obvious for some time in my postings but for those who haven't sampled Alex's output the new trio disc is as good a place as any to start.
  25. The Holiday session appears to be just one date and the SQ is excellent for the era. Very clear , decent balance.
