  1. Cal Tjader, Guarabe (Fantasy)
  2. I don't buy off of Discogs. I meant the local (Dallas) record outlets that I frequent usually do not premium price the Clef label.
  3. Bobby Rush, the 86 year old bluesman, had the virus and has recovered.
  4. There are also three jazz CDs for his Organ Soul Sessions: The Music is the Magic, Mercy, and Brother Where Are You? These were released in France, where he seemed to have the most popularity. These have Cindy Blackman on drums and Rodney Jones (mostly) or Cornell Dupree on guitar backing Lucky Peterson, who exclusively plays organ. Houston Person is on a few tracks.
  5. The Clef LP sounds good. Clefs are not too common in Dallas but generally are not premium priced for some reason.
  6. I realized I had one of these, though I haven't listened to it yet. Also with Barrett Deems on drums. Eric gets his money's worth (also vintage photos of the elder band members on the back cover). Introducing Eric Schneider, featuring Earl Hines, Eric and Earl (Gatemouth)
  7. Red Rodney with Ira Sullivan, Hijinx at the Vanguard (Muse) Milt Jackson, Plenty Plenty Soul (Atlantic) Willie the Lion Smith, Relaxing (Chiaroscuro)
  8. Clarke-Boland Big Band, Handle with Care (Atlantic) Gerald Wilson, California Soul (Pacific Jazz) Johnny Smith, Moods (Roost) The Modern Jazz Quartet (Atlantic) Groove Holmes, Shippin' Out (Muse) Cedar Walton, Firm Roots (Muse)

  10. Unfortunately, I either didn't find out about them in time or was unable to attend his last several appearances in Dallas, which were not too frequent over the last few years. One night I won't forget, I was attending a concert in a club by the [late] Michael Burks, and Lucky Peterson showed up, immediately taking over the organ spot; he played incredible guitar as well that evening, even taking over on the bass guitar at one point; the rapport between him and Michael Burks was so strong; that was surely one of the greatest nights of live music I've ever heard.
  11. While I was incredibly fortunate to see Mingus in November of 1974, he also performed at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival in April of 1976 and 1977. I sure regret the fact that my 17-18 year old self did not get himself there somehow.
  12. Arnett Cobb, More LIve at Sandy's (Muse) Milt Jackson and Coleman Hawkins, Bean Bags (Atlantic)
  13. Pat Martino Live! (Muse) Charlie Earland, In the Pocket (Muse)

  23. It seems like a short while ago that all the players on this album were playing around Dallas, but alas every single one except the pianist (the one unfamiliar name) is now deceased.
