I've only gotten to see her live once; she was on organ, backing up Henry Threadgill.

I"ve seen him four times over the years, the first time at a small folk music club in Austin (but which had a very nice piano as I recall) in 1983, at which time I became a fan, then at the Caravan of Dreams in Fort Worth, and at Snug Harbor in New Orleans. The fourth time was at another folk club in Dallas, Poor David's Pub, which didn't have a piano, so he played electric keyboards.

Okay, but both labels say 12:51. Pulling out my LP copy, the back cover does say 18 minutes; however, given that the other track on the side is 8 minutes, it's pretty easy to tell from looking at the LP that 12 minutes is correct.

Both links are to LP pressings that say 12:51 seconds.

Oeps! Never seen this album before and I have a few of his albums. It took me until 1996 to find a copy - in a used record shop in somewhat rural NJ, south of Newark. Hard to find. Good luck. MG I have one too.

I previously noticed that a couple of favorite Smalls regulars/semi-regulars--Melissa Aldana and Tivon Penicott--were among the semifinalists in the 2013 Thelonious Monk saxophone competition. Not surprisingly, last night both of them advanced to the finals (there are three finalists). Congratulations to both.

So I want to go to Paris to buy African music CDs. That's normal, isn't it?

I would give the label a try, but I couldn't find any CDs on Amazon UK or France, only some downloads on the French amazon.
