  1. Some good info here.....
  2. Packers vs. Vikings and Favre's in a purple uniform. Still haven't gotten used to it. He's playing his @$$ off, though! EDIT:....as is Rogers!
  3. Hmmmm......I ordered mine on the 30th right after I saw this thread and it still hasn't shipped.......
  4. This was making the email rounds today. Pretty funny..... Five octaves...
  5. I just ordered A Single Sky from the website- I chose the CD w/sheet music option because I might use it as a teaching/study resource. It also came with an immediate download, so I already have it on my iPod. Jim McNeeley fronts the Frankfurt Radio Band, and several of the tunes are arranged by him- I'm a big fan of McNeeley's ensemble writing- seeing his participation on the project was really what sold it for me. I like what I've heard so far!
  6. This thread has me sportin' some wood.
  7. As I've mentioned elsewhere, the beginning of the second chorus on Stella (where Trane's solo begins and the rhythm section goes into 4) is one of my favorite moments in recorded jazz. Always sends chills.
  8. Me too. Thanks TJazz!
  9. Almost missed it! Hope you had a great day, and a great year ahead (and many more)!
  10. Probably one too many, like most series.
  11. Hey, everyone's opinion is going to differ. Me, I love the Seven Steps box- I really enjoy the George Coleman/Sam Rivers editions of the Quintet. Matter of fact, I love all three of the boxes you mentioned (Miles, Tatum, JoeHen)! Different strokes I guess! EDIT; I will add, though, that I listen to all those boxes in segments. I really can't do them all straight through. I need a little variety to keep the ears fresh.
  12. Today is/was Kenny's birthday. A great artist who left us way too soon. I really have enjoyed his work with Wynton & Branford Marsalis, Elvin, Kenny Garrett and Sting as well as his own recordings. I have a semi-obscure session with Scofield called Who's Who? where he plays some tasty Rhodes. Fantastic musician. Very sad that he passed away so young. He had a lot of music yet to play.

    Miles

Welcome to the board, chef! Nice post, but I'd be careful about referring to Kenny Garrett as "kenny g". You know how those jazz guys are..... Much love for Miles, always!
  14. Another Subaru fan here. I've had a couple Foresters and they've been great cars, never a problem.
  15. So are the kids still diggin' on it these days? I was quite enthusiastic to get me some good cheap hooch when I was a young 'un. It really wasn't all that complicated. Besides Cold Duck there was Sloe Gin, Lime Vodka and Seven & Sevens, to name a few. The s w e e t entry-level drinks.
  16. Love the tune. Yakked on the beverage in high school. More than once. Slow learner. EDIT: had second thoughts on how to spell "yakked"....
  17. And so will you if you drink enough of it......
  18. This is strange. I was discussing this episode at work, and I must admit, it's a lot funnier in the discussion stage than it is actually watching it. Maybe I'll give it another shot. Well, the whole premise is pretty much over the top, so subtlety is not really part of the picture. Also, if you're not a fan of Steve Carrell you probably won't be able to get a groove going. No biggie really, it's just some fun escapism. TV lost to indifference is no big loss.
  19. I liked Conan's previous show, I thought there were some funny bits. Now that he's become more "mainstreamed", I can see his sense of humor being "reigned in" quite a bit, and maybe he's allowing this to happen. I think this new gig is going to be tough for him & his fans. That said, I caught the new Leno show last week. Still the Tonight show format, I'm not sure what the hell is going on at NBC. I liked Jay as a guest, never warmed up to him as a host.
  20. Last night at an Asian restaurant with some friends we shared some hot sake. I love hot sake, very tasty!
  21. I put the DVD boxes in my Amazon cart and wait until they go on sale. I've picked up Seasons 1 & 2 for cheap.
  22. Blew past 10,000 and now going for 20K, eh?
