  1. Not sure if I'd go into that place.....
  2. One of Hoagy's best IMO. Helen and Harry in their prime & some nice laid-back ensemble figures after the vocal chorus. Thanks Larry!
  3. I read the thread title and thought maybe they were bringing Roger Moore back for a Bond sequel.
  4. Thanks, Claude. I found this version of basically the same material, released by RLR Records
  5. Top Chef finale in N'awlins- Branford Marsalis is one of the guests for the big final meal.......!
  6. Digression Is Coherence, Kimosabe!
  7. Just discovered this- if there is an existing thread I'll delete this one. Has this material been out before? Anyone pick this up yet? It looks good........
  8. I'd be curious to hear how this was. I don't think his chops are in very good shape, but as Chuck might say, it's Donald frickin' Byrd. Edited to past tense.
  9. Don't need Pete, just June -- a cappella. That picture of June on the Mosaic box cover......*sigh* It's June Or No One. The Very Thought Of June. June And The Night And The Mosaic. etc., etc.
  10. Free For All

    Jim Hall

I recently acquired this one and have been enjoying it.
  11. Yes, I realize that BF- I was being facetious. (like Bruce Lundvall would actually call....yeah, right!)
  12. No, it's for real- my survey was in my email. I tried to create a link but wasn't able, maybe someone else can.
  13. Me too. Probably not as cautious as I should be.
  14. The Al Pacino looks like Marv Albert. YES!
  15. OK, I took the survey. A couple things- One question directed me to "check all that apply" but then an error message popped up saying I could only pick one. Also, in the question about websites, no mention of Organissimo.org- is this place still not a presence to be reckoned with? Finally, they spelled "Bobby Hutcherson" as "Booby". OK, I'm kidding about that last one. I can't wait for Bruce to call!
  16. Sounds like fun. I've always wanted to get some of those Blue Note recordings, I've heard they're very jazzy.
  17. I wonder if Clark remembers.
  18. we are now left wondering about the unissued material free for all has heard... It looks like the unissued material isn't on this release. I just assumed that since it was 2 discs that they somehow gathered all the material from the studio session (which is what I proposed when I emailed Mosaic). I heard the unissued material via a friend of mine who was friends w/Rosolino and had a copy that he had gotten from Frank. I'm still hopeful that all the material from that studio session will come out on CD someday (it probably would all fit on one). This still looks very desirable though!
  19. So if his chops are shot, should he stop playing? I used to think so. I heard Dizzy struggling late in his life, I heard Freddie when he was not doing well. Clark has had his ups and downs lately. JJ was starting to fade a bit. It was tough to hear. I used to think "why don't these guys retire?" but I have come to realize that retiring is like giving up, and these guys are doing what they love to do. I think it keeps them going. Yes, it is hard to hear these lions struggling, and some may not want to listen. Sometimes it's hard for me to listen, but these guys have built up some "respect equity" and I'll continue to be sincerely supportive. I think if you're going to pay money to hear some of these guys, you need to be prepared that maybe it won't be what you want it to be. I know some folks here have said that these guys should just quit already, that we need to move on (like some comments about the recent Hank/Moody side). I think brass players show their age a little sooner than reed and rhythm players, but they all still deserve our respect IMHO.
